CHAPTER 34

I know you all must have waited so long for this! Let's get ittt~

THIRD PERSON POV

Taehyung's eyes were wide as he stared at the boy in front of him. Jungkook had his eyes closed, his right hand cupping Taehyung's cheek while his lips moved against his.

The elder could not understand what had just happened. How it had happened. And he did not even have the chance to ponder over it as Jungkook's lips intoxicated him, consumed his every senses and made him unable to think straight anymore.

So, with equal fervour, Taehyung closed his eyes and kissed him back. He brought both his hands to the younger's shoulders, resting them there as he moved his lips in synchronisation with Jungkook's.

The feeling was foreign to Taehyung. It was something he had never felt before, something he had never experienced, something beyond his imagination yet it felt so natural, so right.

He felt elated, euphoric, like he was no more on the earth but floating among the clouds.

Jungkook's lips made him feel that.

The younger placed his free hand on Taehyung's waist, pulling him a little closer so that their bodies were now completely pressed against each other.

The kiss was a gentle one, not at all rushed. Both allowed themselves to be lost in it, savouring the feeling of their first proper kiss. Their lips glided against each other in a perfectly coordinated motion, clouding the two boys' minds with pure ecstasy.

However, they soon had to part for much needed air. Jungkook pulled away and panted, his hands remaining glued to their spot on Taehyung's cheek and waist.

"Will you listen to me now?" He asked in a soft voice, teasing almost, as he stared at Taehyung with the most gentle of eyes, watching the boy trying to catch his breath.

Despite still being in a daze, Taehyung nodded faintly, causing a smile to appear on Jungkook's lips.

Those same lips that were against his mere seconds ago.

Jungkook didn't speak for a moment, allowing his actions to do the talking for him. His thumb gently caressed Taehyung's cheek, the same way that the older had always been so delicate with him, as he smiled tenderly at him.

Taehyung felt his heart flutter. Blood rushed to his cheeks, colouring them a faint pink. He looked away, feeling suddenly shy under Jungkook's gaze and their close proximity.

When Jungkook started speaking, however, he looked back at him, feeling his heart swell at his words and how genuine they sounded.

"I like you too, hyung," he confessed softly, this tender gaze never leaving his beautiful brown eyes. "Actually, I love you. I love you so much. And I want to be with you."

Those were the words Taehyung had dreamt of hearing from Jungkook's mouth and he couldn't believe he was actually hearing them. He didn't wait another second and inched his face closer to kiss him again. He really couldn't get enough of the younger.

This time, as they kissed as gently as before, Taehyung actually took the time to appreciate the details he had missed earlier because he had been so engrossed that his mind had stopped functioning.

Jungkook's lips were soft against his own, softer than he had ever imagined. Their smooth velvety movements caused streams of current to course down Taehyung's spine and through his whole body. Still, it was a feeling he wouldn't mind getting lost in over and over again.

Their kiss turned more and more passionate with each passing second, both of them pouring all their feelings into it. Feelings that had remained unspoken and hidden for all those years yet had always been burning in the deepest chambers of their hearts.

Jungkook's hand on Taehyung's waist relocated onto his back, causing another shiver to run down his spine as Jungkook's palm slided up his back. The latter stepped forward, inciting Taehyung to move backwards until his legs hit the bed behind him.

With his hand still on Taehyung's back, Jungkook carefully lowered them both onto the bed, their lips never parting.

Taehyung looped his arms around the younger's neck, pulling him closer to himself. Meanwhile, Jungkook's left hand caressed the boy's side whereas his right one remained on his cheek, angling his face better so he could deepen the kiss.

They kept kissing some more until they eventually had to pull away, both absolutely breathless and heavily panting as they lovingly stared into the other's eyes with the brightest of smiles plastered onto their faces.

Taehyung's smile, however, faded as one thought occured to him. "Jungkook... what about your engagement?" He voiced out.

"What about my engagement? It's getting called off," the younger instantly replied with a shrug, like it was the most natural thing ever.

"But, you- you can't just do that!" Taehyung exclaimed. "Everyone will be devastated! Haesoo noona, your parents, the members, everyone was so excited for it."

"But I already did," said Jungkook amusedly while looking down at Taehyung who was frowning.

"What?! When?"

"I went to Busan for 2 days, remember? That's what I had gone to do," revealed Jungkook.

Taehyung's eyes widened. "R-really?"

"When you told me you love me, nothing else mattered to me," said Jungkook, causing Taehyung to blush at his words as he caressed the elder's cheek with his thumb. The younger marvelled at his beauty, wondering how in the world had he gotten so lucky to have this ethereal boy love him back.

"Did everyone take it well that you were breaking things off? Noona must've been heartbroken," Taehyung said, genuinely feeling bad for it all.

Jungkook's eyebrows furrowed and he tilted his head to the side. "Why would she be heartbroken?" He inquired, perplexed.

"Because she loves you, why else? And wait a minute- didn't you love her too? Weren't you both getting married because you love each other? How do you love me now?" Taehyung asked, completely confused.

His face was cutely tilted to the side as he stared up at Jungkook with slightly furrowed eyebrows. Jungkook chuckled and leaned down to peck his lips.

"I have always loved you, hyungie."

"But then...?" Taehyung trailed off, puzzled with everything that had been going on.

Jungkook knew he had a huge explanation to give. He lifted himself off of the elder, moving to the pillows propped up against the headboard and leaned his back against them.

Patting the space beside him, he beckoned Taehyung over. The elder complied, crawling his way to him and snuggling into Jungkook's side, eager to hear him.

"Let's get comfortable. It's a long story," said Jungkook as he wrapped his arms around the other. When they were both cuddled into each other's warmth, Jungkook began, "I don't really know where to start but Haesoo noona and I never loved each other."

As he paused to gather his thoughts and put them into words, Taehyung kept staring at him with confusion etched onto his face. He had many questions but kept his mouth shut for he knew Jungkook would tell him everything.

"To put it simply, it was noona's parents who were basically forcing her to get married, though she didn't want it. Since they were friends with my family, they thought about getting Junghyunie hyung or I for her, but hyung has a girlfriend so the choice narrowed down to me," he narrated.

"At first, noona was angry at how we were both being pressurised into this but eventually she agreed because she would rather marry someone she knew instead of a complete stranger. She apologised to me for not talking to me about her decision and convinced me to reject the proposal, but at the time... I was troubled by everything going on and I agreed. It was an impulsive decision but there was not much I could do. I wasn't thinking straight anyway."

Taehyung looked up at him and softly asked, "was it the day you snuck into my room at night to sleep next to me? When you looked upset in the morning?"

Jungkook hummed in response.

"When did all this happen?" Taehyung inquired.

"The first time they brought up the topic of marriage was a few days after that time when you kissed me in the practice room," the younger boy replied.

Taehyung blushed as he recalled that scene. He hid his face in his hands and whined, "I really don't know how that happened, I hadn't meant to do it!"

Jungkook chuckled at that. "Well, maybe if you hadn't run away, I would've kissed you back and we would've known our feelings for each other since then."

Taehyung sighed. "Everything would've been so much simpler then."

Jungkook hummed absently as he tightened his arms around Taehyung and pressed a kiss to the latter's head which was leaning against his chest.

Both were silent for a moment before Taehyung broke it in a soft voice, "what made you agree if you loved me?"

"It was the fact that I loved you," said Jungkook, receiving a puzzled look from Taehyung because he wasn't making sense.

Jungkook then elaborated. "I was always scared of these feelings I had for you. I didn't know what you would think of me if I ever told you that I liked you, so I kept it hidden."

Taehyung completely understood that and he felt sorry that Jungkook had to go through the same. They really didn't have it easy, did they?

Jungkook stared off in space as he went on, "I thought getting married to someone else would stop those feelings from growing. I thought it would be impossible for you to like me back, especially after you said the kiss was an accident. During that time, I was hoping it was intentional and that maybe you liked me, but then, that night when you said why you would do that intentionally, I lost hope and that's what was on my mind when I agreed."

"I'm so sorry, Jungkook. If only I had known..." Taehyung trailed off, the regret clear in his tone. "I was just so scared you would be uncomfortable and you would hate me."

"Hyung, it's not your fault. I was so scared, too. I was afraid you would hate me. I was afraid you wouldn't be calling me your Jungkookie anymore. I was so afraid you wouldn't want to even see me anymore," Jungkook admitted, his eyes starting to become teary.

Taehyung tilted his body and wiped the tears forming before they could fall out of his eyes. He hugged the younger and caressed his hair while whispering in his ear, "don't cry, Kookie. I would never hate you, baby. You'll always be my Jungkookie."

He pulled away, cupped his cheeks and kissed his forehead. "If only we had been honest about our feelings since the beginning, none of us would have to go through that," he sighed heavily. "But at least we have each other now. Nothing will go wrong."

The two smiled at each other, still in each other's arms, happier than they have been in months.

"By the way," said Taehyung, "how did calling off the engagement go? I mean, noona's parents and everything... I'm sure they weren't too pleased about it."

"Well..."

Flashback to 2 days ago

Jungkook drove to Busan late at night and as he approached his destination, morning was starting to settle down. His thoughts were cluttered with Taehyung. He couldn't stop thinking about the strange conversation he had heard between him and Jimin that night.

However, recalling the elder's confession brought a smile to his lips. He had never imagined Taehyung to like him back but well, he did. It was incredible and Jungkook had been so surprised when the elder had confessed to him.

Stupidly enough though, he had remained frozen, unable to believe the words coming from Taehyung's lips. After that, they got the news of Namjoon's accident and everything went downhill.

He hadn't spoken much to Taehyung in the two days following the accident. He had been almost avoiding him even.

That was mostly because he had been feeling unsure on how to approach those subjects with Taehyung. And he regretted it. His hesitation and lack of interaction probably gave the wrong idea to the older.

But right now, he was sure about what he was going to do. He would call off this engagement and go back to Seoul to announce it to Taehyung and tell him that he's always liked him too.

He couldn't imagine how happy Taehyung would be, and just thinking about it made a wide smile beam onto his face.

A few hours later, he was seated in his living room with his brother, Haesoo and their parents.

"What is it, Kook? Why did you come here so suddenly?" asked his mother sweetly. The boy had refused to tell the reason and had said he would announce it all at once.

"I wanted to talk about the engagement," he said.

Before he could go on, however, he was interrupted by Mrs Park's high pitched voice squealing, "oh honey! You read our minds! We also had to talk about it! You want to prepone the engagement too, isn't it?"

Jungkook had to use every ounce of his willpower to not roll his eyes at her. They were already forcing their daughter into this and now they wanted to do it sooner?!

Instead he remained calm and replied, "on the contrary, I wish to postpone it."

Mr and Mrs Park's eyebrows furrowed. Mrs Park looked like she was ready to protest but her husband placed a hand on her knee. He then asked, "to when, son?"

"To never," Jungkook deadpanned, looking him dead in the eye.

The man seemed to have been taken aback, as was his wife. But soon they both regained their composure and Mrs Park laughed nervously. "Oh dear, how funny you are! That was a good joke."

The youngest in the room crossed his arms and leaned back on the couch. "Oh but I'm not joking. I wish to call off the engagement," he affirmed, still looking unnervingly calm.

The couple seemed at a loss of words. Mrs Park's mouth kept opening and closing like that of a goldfish and Mr Park's eyes were as wide as saucers.

They were the only one horrified with the news though. Jungkook's parents were surprised about the sudden news, yet they were happy with the fact that their son had decided to speak up for himself instead of going ahead with this compelling wedding.

As for Junghyun, he was proud of his younger brother. A wide grin stretched across his mouth, not even bothering to feign sadness that the engagement was being called off.

When the Park couple seemed to have partly gotten out of their shock, they questioned, "w-why? Is- is something wrong? Is it some- something we did? We can always talk about it calmly before calling off everything."

Jungkook's face was void of any emotions as he formally spoke, "it has nothing to do with you. I just don't feel like this marriage is something we should proceed with, especially since it's something neither Haesoo noona nor I want."

"Did she tell you that?" Mrs Park asked, her tone raising as she angrily and almost menacingly glared at her daughter.

Yet, Jungkook remained composed as he replied.

"No. I don't want to go forward with something I'm not comfortable with. All of it seems rushed and now you even wanted to prepone the engagement. After that what would it be? Get us married immediately? It's not something I want and since it concerns my life and future, I believe I should have a say in it, as should noona."

Mrs Park turned to Haesoo, her eyes still sparking a furious glint. "Were you aware of this?" She questioned in a low tone, her eyebrows furrowed and eyes narrowed.

Jungkook was about to speak up and say that she wasn't but Haesoo beat him to it.

"Yes, I was," she admitted with a sigh. "In fact, Jungkook and I discussed about it yesterday before coming to this decision."

Her tone didn't waver as she stood up against her parents. One might have thought that she was insanely confident, but Jungkook knew that was far from true. He knew how scared she was to confront them.

They had really talked the past night. Jungkook had been the one to call her, saying that he wished to call off this engagement. He obviously didn't mention the reason and only said that it was because he felt it was not right, which was true as well.

Haesoo had agreed. Even she didn't want it but she had also told him how nervous she was about her parents' reactions. But she was ready to stand up against them this time because she had had enough of the way they controlled her.

But Jungkook knew better and was ready to protect her if she got too nervous to speak up. Yet, here she was, gathering the confidence to speak for herself. Jungkook smiled faintly at that.

"Are you out of your mind?!" raged Mrs Park. "After so much difficulty, we managed to find you a fiancé, yet you want to call it off? You have already rejected so many! Now how are we supposed to find another suitor for you?!"

"I don't want to get married so soon!" protested Haesoo.

"So soon?! You're 24 for God's sake!"

"I don't care, okay? I don't care if most of my cousins are already married, I don't care if I'm not yet married by 28, I don't care if I never even get married. I don't need a man to fulfill my needs! I can fend for myself! I can earn a living by myself and take care of myself. I want to be independent," said Haesoo.

"Independent? Haven't you got enough of that? Your father and I allowed you to complete your studies in the US before coming here and we allowed you to live by yourself in Seoul!"

"Yes and what have you been doing all the time? Looking for someone to get me married to! I'm not ready for that. You never even allowed me to open my own fashion boutique when that's been my dream since I was little! You said it was too ambitious but I want to be ambitious! I'm fed up of always having to live like a puppet for you both. I want to have the freedom to make choices for myself for once," she concluded, breathing slightly heavily from her outburst.

Haesoo had completely lashed out about everything she felt. It felt so good to finally let out everything after it had all been buried in her for so long.

Her mother looked like she was about to scold her again yet couldn't find it in her to do so. It was her father who spoke up.

"You're right and we're sorry about that. We thought we were doing what was right for you and forgot to ask whether or not you were happy," he said, sounding genuinely apologetic.

Turning to Jungkook, he added, "I believe we owe you an apology as well for pressurising you into a marriage you were obviously not ready for."

Jungkook smiled softly. "It's okay, as long as you've really realised."

End of flashback

"So, yeah, that's pretty much what happened," Jungkook concluded, tightening his arms around Taehyung who was leaning against him, head on the younger's chest.

"Awwn I'm so proud of you," said the older. "And of noona too! It must have taken great courage for her to speak up like that!"

Jungkook hummed in response, agreeing with him.

Taehyung then furrowed his eyebrows. "If you were already done with that yesterday, why did you come back today evening?"

Jungkook rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Well, I... was kinda anxious about how to tell you about my feelings and what exactly I should say. And I was sort of having a breakdown over it because I was scared I would mess it up and when I finally returned, I was so surprised to see you at the hospital 'cause I was not expecting to see you so soon."

"Awwn my baby was nervous," Taehyung cooed fondly as he propped himself up and turned around to look at Jungkook and pinch his cheeks.

But as he did so, he noticed how they had turned red at the nickname he had just used. "Aww you're blushing," stated Taehyung.

"No, I'm not!" Jungkook exclaimed, trying to hide his flushed cheeks.

"Yes, you are," chuckled Taehyung. "How cute, you blush when I call you baby."

"No, I don't."

"Yes, you do," teased Taehyung. "My pretty and cute little baby!"

"Hyung~" Jungkook whined, unable to stop the blush from creeping up his cheeks.

"You're adorable," Taehyung smiled, reaching up to peck the younger's lips.
