Chapter 15 | mess

Once he'd recovered from the pain of face planting into the floor, L realised where he was. The time room. Why he'd been zapped here, he didn't know at first, until he realised all the entrances were sealed shut. He'd been zapped here to prevent him from going anywhere...

"L? L!"

That was your voice, but he couldn't see you anywhere.

"(Y/n)?" He called out.

"Look down!" You called back.

He followed the sound of your voice to the source, slightly horrified at what he was seeing. You weren't joking about the cube thing... he rushed over, picking up the small cube you'd been trapped in. Your 2D form trying to break out of it.

"Are you ok?!" He asked, dumbfounded you even fit in there.

"Pissed off, but yes. That bastard figured it out! I have no idea what tipped him off but the fucker cubed me without even knocking on the damn door or saying hello. If you're here that means he's in your universe right?" You asked.

"Yeah, he barged in mid taskforce meeting and zapped me here. He's looking for Light too, said he'd take care of him then tare apart the universe?" L explained, confused and worried.

You sighed in frustration, things had really just gone badly... as if they weren't already a mess now it was a major mess.

"You need to get me out of here" you said.

"How?" L replied.

"Smash it! Step on it, throw it, do whatever! Break me out"

L was about to, before he recalled the fact you could still feel things in your 2D form.

"Won't that hurt you?" He asked.

"It's the only way, don't worry about me. Just smash this thing so I can get out" you replied.

He felt bad about it, but you'd insisted and there wasn't really any other option. With as much force as he could he tossed the cube into the wall, hearing it crack when it hit the surface. But it didn't break fully.

"Ow- son of a bitch! Again, there's a crack!" You seethed.

L picked the cube up again, seeing the crack down the centre of it from the force of the throw.

"Are you sure? That sounded painful" L asked.

"Fuck L, I appreciate the concern and all but fucking yeet this thing! I can't do anything if I'm trapped in here" you replied.

He still felt bad, but he did as told. This time driving it into the ground and hearing the cube shatter. In a burst of colour, you broke free back into your 3D form, stumbling across the ground.

"Ah- fuck! Thank gods for that it was so cramped in there..." you complained, clambering to your feet.

L rushed over, helped you up and almost had a heart attack when he saw the bruises over your skin from the force of the throes.

"Oh my- (y/n) I'm so sorry-" he said.

"It's fine L, it was the only way out of that thing. Plus this humanoid appearance is just how you see me remember? I'm fine, the bruising is like the equivalent of a slight dent in the fabric of my true form" you replied.

Sometimes he forgot that this human like appearance of yours was just how he saw you. The time room allowing him to comprehend you in a way his brain could understand. If someone else walked in right now, they'd probably see you much differently. From the way you described your true appearance to him, being like a person shaped chunk of the night sky, he assumed a bruise to you would look like a few stars have gone out.

You turned to your computer immediately, trying to locate where exactly the narrator had gone to, only to be met with the very angering realisation that your keyboard... had been broken. That bastard smashed it before he left.

"Oh for fuck sakes! L do you still have the remote I have you?" You said.

L reached into his back pocket, taking it out and holding it out for you.

"Thank gods I had the idea to give it to you. This can navigate universes too but... it's at random. Unless you know the code by heart in which case you can type it in... if you want to get back to your universe you'll have to go through a few others until you find the right one..." you explained.

"Do you not know the code for my universe?" L asked.

You were silent, in truth... you didn't.

"(Y/n)-"

"It's like 12 numbers long! And I see universe codes all day every day! Look, I know it starts with 1700, meaning it's in a certain group of universes... the first four digits correspond to the type of universe, the second four determine if it's for life in it or not and the final four are individual to each one. Your university have life so... 1700-8915... the last four I don't know..." you explained.

L couldn't exactly blame you, you did look at universes all day, every day. You'd file reports on them all day, every day. For eons- there was no way you'd remember every code by heart.

"So if I type in the first 8 numbers and hit the tick it'll take me to one of the universes in that group?" L asked.

"Yeah, it might take a while to find the right one but you can narrow it down by observing the universes codes you do end up in" you replied.

L looked down at the remote. He knew he had to get home, quickly as he could. Not to save Light, he didn't care about that. If Light got captured then the Kira was was just solved for him. But because he had family he cared for back home. Watari, his successors and everyone back in the orphanage. He wasn't going to let some maniac in a stupid hat tear apart his home universe and hurt the people he loved. Or the innocent people that had nothing to do with this. But he'd never travelled across universes, he didn't know magic, he was only fluent in 6 languages- he couldn't do this alone.

"You need to come with me" he said.

"L I can't leave this room. It's the only place that supports my form, I'd probably explode if I left..." you replied.

Right... that was a problem. But L, he was a problem solver.

"Your 2D form?" He suggested.

"... actually yeah, all universes have a 2D plane... I'd need something to stick to though, you'd be carrying me around" you replied.

L thought for a moment, needing something flat and lightweight. Small enough to carry, but not so small you'd be cramped like in that damn cube. Something like... an ita bag?

"You know those bags with the clear compartment in the front?" L began.

"You're a genius" you replied, snapping your fingers and summoning one up.

In L's hands appeared a shoulder bag, flat compartment at the front reinforced with a plastic insert, room to carry anything else needed in the back. Big enough you'd not be stuck and flat enough you could stick your 2D form onto it.

"Ok hold still" you said.

L held out the bag, and you zapped yourself into it, your 2D form sticking to the flat front compartment. It felt a little strange, being on something that was moving around as L carried it, but it meant you could leave the time room without literally exploding. Let's just hope no travellers came to visit while you were gone. L pulled the strap over his head and supported the bag to rest on his front so you could see where he was seeing.

"Ok ready?" He asked.

"Yep, let's see what universe we end up in first, and work from there" you replied.

L punched the frost 8 numbers into the remote, held his finger over the enter button and looked down at you, looking back up at him.

"Let's hope we don't end up in some dangerous universe then..."
