Chapter 14 | busted

You knew submitting a false report was a bad idea, but being balls deep in this lie to protect L and his universe made you act with little other choice. And now, you were suffering the consequences...

"HEY! YOU CAN'T DO THIS! I'M THE GUARDIAN HERE!" You yelled out, your 2D form kicking at the sides of the tiny cube you'd just been trapped in.

"The guardian that broke protocol, as soon as I find this universe I'm cleaning up YOUR mess (y/n), and you are staying in that cube weather you like it or not"

You watched helplessly, the narrator using your keyboard to locate L's universe. You weren't even sure what part of the report gave away that you'd intervened with the universe, but something had set the higher ups off. And now, you were in some deep shit for it.

You'd been minding your business all day, just observing the multiverse for any issues when without so much as a knock on the door you're suddenly whacked on the back by something hard and sucked into a cube about the size of a rubrics cube, forced into your 2D form to fit inside it. Kicked access the floor and your keyboard snatched across the floor and into the hands of the last person you wanted to see, your asshole of a boss. You immediately knew what was wrong the moment you got cubed... you'd been caught.

"How is this any better than what I did?! At least I was trying to do my job, you can't just walk into my time room and-" you began.

"Silence! None of this would have happened if you'd done your job right and diverted his death BEFORE his name was written in the death note" The narrator replied.

He pulled up the code for L's universe and began to write it into the buttons on his staff. He was actually planning to go INTO the universe.

"What are you- dude you're not actually going into the universe are you? I thought you were just going to cube my ass" you asked.

"I'm cleaning up your mess, goodbye (y/n)

"No wait!"

And just like that, he was gone. Zapped out of the time room and likely straight into L's universe to look for him. What he was planning to do? You had no idea.

"Shit- fuck!" You scowled, trying to break out of your stupid little cube by kicking at the sides.

Although your 2D form didn't have much strength compared to your 3D one, it was like paper trying to cut open glass. But if you hit it enough times, maybe you'd weaken it enough to break it open? You had to try, you couldn't stay trapped here forever. You had no idea what that maniac of a boss of yours was doing.

He seemed to be a fan of unannounced visits, because just like he'd shown up unannounced at your doors the past 3 times, he'd taken matters to L's doorstep too. Watari had gotten up to answer the hotel room door, assuming it was room service. Only to be shoved aside by a cloaked figure and the taskforce meeting interrupted.

"L Lawliet- get up and come with me"

L's blood immediately ran cold hearing his full name, and when he turned to face the figure who said it, his blood may as well gave frozen. He recognised this figure, from the time you'd shoved him into hiding from them back in the time room.

"E-excuse me..?" Was all he could reply.

"Up, you're coming with me" the narrator replied.

Watari may be old, but he was a trained sniper and knew how to fight. He didn't exactly have a gun here with him in some random Japanese hotel room, but he did have kitchen knifes. Despite holding one up to the cloaked figures neck, they didn't seem to care.

"Who are you? What do you want with L?" He threatened.

The narrator simply phased through the knife, unbothered and grabbed L by the shoulder. L twisted out of his grip, stumbling away.

"Who I am doesn't matter to you mortals your universe will cease to exist anyway. But L, you're involved in (y/n)s little stunt, so you'll face the consequences too" the narrator said.

The taskforce were both confused and quite scared, a random cloaked figure that seemed to be almost ghost like showing up and threatening to take their lead detective wasn't exactly an every day experience. But the mention of your name immediately reminded L what you'd told him about this guy. That he was a jerk and that he unreasonably punished people.

"What did you do to (y/n)?" He growled.

"Ryuzaki, who is (y/n)?" Matsuda spoke up.

"Silence!" The narrator cut in.

No one dared speak, none of them (aside L) had ever seen this supernatural being before. They didn't know what he was capable of.

"I'm sure from your little rendezvous with (y/n), you'll know that breaking protocol is cause for punishment. And anyone that is in on those little stunts are to be punished too, no matter the universe they're from. You and (y/n) will be stuck in that time room for the rest of eternity, and you won't be able to get help from them either, they're powerless in their current form. And your universe? The result of an unauthorised meddling with a mortals timeline? It's going to be torn apart at the very seams for merely existing!" The narrator... well, narrated.

Man, you were right. This guy IS an asshole. All this because you broke a rule by accident? How were you to know that L was going to die the same way twice? The only thing you could do to prevent that and thus, two universes colliding WAS to pull him to safety in the time room.

"You're completely insane... now I know why (y/n) was so careful not to set you off. You're going THIS far over an accident?! I'm not even the one with a supernatural notebook and shinigami following me around!" L replied.

"Ah, the death note. He will be dealt with too, as well as the shinigami. You mortals can't be in possession of a gods contraband as it is" the narrator replied.

"How come there's already a universe where I die to that stupid book then?"

L wasn't going to complain about this guy taking the death note away, Kira case solved right? He was basically doing L's job for him. But everything else? Blaming him for the mess and destroying his universe? That he couldn't let happen. He had people he cared about in this universe, it was his home. He couldn't just let some maniac in a cloak destroy it.

"One universes authorisations cannot be the same as another, hasn't (y/n) taught you anything? No matter, I'm going to tear down their precious little sandcastle they've been hiding you in, you're an anomaly L. You can't be here" the narrator scowled.

The taskforce watched in shock as a single jab of this creatures staff made L seemingly vanish. As if things couldn't get any more confusing for them, they'd just watched L disappear in a puff of what looked like pixels.

There's some cloaked, ghostly figure demanding authority and calling L by his full name, there's someone called (y/n) L is apparently a partner in crime too, there's something called a death note and the existence of their very universe was being threatened.

What the fuck was going on?

Frozen in complete shock and admittedly some fear, they all tensed up when the narrator turned to face them.

"As for all of you... where is Light Yagami?"
