~Chapter 5~
The frost gnawed at your back aggressively as you stared up at the ceiling of the Underground. Flakes of snowy danced gracefully, twisting and turning as they fell gentle to their brothers which already covered the ground. Some flakes would fall on your eyelashes, but most were captured in your hair or piling on your body. Cold chilled you past your bones and into your soul, but you didn't move. Watching the snow helped you think, but you often drifted to the topic of how exactly it could snow with no clouds.
"(Y/N) come on! You're gonna get frost bite!" Dash groaned, towering above you.
You looked at her numbly and shook your head. "I'm thinking." You said quietly, and returned to gazing at the snow.
"Well maybe you should think inside! I don't wanna carry and dead bodies up to the surface with us."
You snickered. "I think the funniest part of that is you would actually carry my body, wouldn't you?"
Dash shrugged. "Probably. I mean, Rey would help of course, but we all know I'm the strong one. And the smart one. And the pretty one."
You raised a brow and looked teasingly at the orange-haired girl. "And which one am I?" You asked.
"You're the lazy one."
You tried to think of a point to argue from, but gave up with a smile. "Yeah, I got nothing."
Dash rolled her eyes and grabbed one of your arms, hoisting you to your feet. "Come on, Rey's making hot cocoa inside."
Your eyes widened with childish delight and you squealed. "Cocoa?! If you said that in the beginning I would've been there faster than Sonic the Hedgehog!"
"You would break the sound barrier... For cocoa..."
You nodded with a laugh. "Damn straight!"
Dash held back a laugh as you grabbed her arm and ran. "Come on! Live up to that name of yours and let's Dash!"
She groaned and slapped a hand against her forehead. "You did not just turn my name into a pun." She said in a low, threatening voice.
"Yep! Now let's hurry up and get there the hot cocoa turns into cold cocoa."
Dash rolled her eyes and picked up the pace. You followed the path through the woods, but soon the ten minutes you thought it would take turned into half an hour. Then a full hour. Then two.
Dash stopped, grabbing you hand in hers. You glanced back at her apologetically. "Sorry Dash, I may have kinda sorta gotten us a teeny tiny bit lost."
Dash sighed and rubbed two fingers against her temple. "Seriously (Y/N)?! We're gonna freeze out here if we don't get back soon!"
You rubbed the back of your head and lowered it in shame. "I know Dash, but I got so excited for cocoa time! I guess I overshot it a bit."
She rolled her eyes and looked around. "Come on, let's climb a tree and see if we can get view of the Snowdin place. Then we'll head that way, regroup, and get back to Toriel's place."
You nodded and scanned the trees around you. Lucky for you, one of the taller one had limbs low enough for you to pull yourself up on. Grinning in triumph, you snaked your way up the tree, Dash following easily behind you.
Your head popped over the sea of tree tops and your (E/C) eyes scanned for any type of town. About two miles to the East, you saw the warm lights of the town, Snowdin. You beamed and looked at Dash, who had settled on a branch a few inches lower than yours.
You pointed East and smiled. "Not too far that way and we'll get to Snowdin. I can see the lights easily for here. Maybe an hour, forty-five minutes if we book it."
Dash nodded and smiled. "You're lucky we're so close. I might have killed you otherwise."
"But Daaassshhhh! We both know you're body ditch is up top! And it's nearly full anyway!"
She snickered. The throwback to the days you would play murder at the orphanage was golden. You smiled to yourself and started to descend the branches behind Dash. It was fine for the first fourth of the way down. However, your hand slipped on a packed patch of ice and you lost one hand. When you tried to place your foot, you found the branch beneath you fragile and weak. It wouldn't hold your weight, not even a little.
You cried out, causing Dash to looked back. She gasped as you cried desperately to find another hold for your hand. Your one secure hand slipped quickly, one finger after another failing under your weight. You wished you'd done the extra pull-ups in gym class.
"(Y/N)! Hold on, I'm coming!" Dash yelled, trying to scramble up the tree again.
You tried but you were down to three fingers. "Dash I can't hold on! I'm gonna fall!"
"Well try!" She retorted.
You tried to make a comeback but the sensation of falling silenced any reasonable words. Your words between shrieks as gravity ripped at you ravenously. Dash cried out, reaching uselessly towards you. You blinked, those few milliseconds being enough for a dramatic change.
When your eyes opened again, you saw Dash, wings of orange-tipped white feathers sprouting from her back. In a mere seconds she was in front of you, wrapping an arm around your midsection. The breath was knocked out of you as her wings snapped, changing our decent drastically. Both you and Dash screamed as you rolled in the snow, thudding harshly against a tree.
Your head rang but you sat up quickly, looking desperately for your friend. "Dash?! Dash where are you? What happening?!" You called.
Behind you a groan shook and you whipped around. Dash laid on her back, cradling her head. "Ow..." She groaned.
A flutter of feathers and her wings laid flat on the ground with their master. Your mouth gaped as you examined the massive wings.
"Since when did you have wings?!" You half screamed-half yelped.
Dash looked confused as you gaped at her. "What wings?" She asked.
You picked one up and dropped it with a thud. "The ones that sprouted out of your back dumbass!" You yelled.
She looked at the wings and her green eyes grew to the size of saucers. "What the hell?!" She screamed.
She stood quickly and unfolded the wings. She then looked at the tree, then at you, then her wings, then repeated. You stood yourself and looked at them.
"Wow! These wings look so sick! I want wings!" You smiled.
Dash looked at you like you were an idiot. "I JUST SPROUTED WINGS AND ALL YOU CAN THINK ABOUT IS YOU WANTING THEM?!"
You flinched away and sighed. "Fine! Wings can be your thing, I'll stick to the pistol."
"(Y/N)!"
"Okay! Okay! Fine, serious (Y/N) is here."
Dash growled under her breath and rolled her eyes. She tried to step forward, but her leg failed on her ankle and she started to collapse. You caught her under the arm and heaved her up.
"Dash, are you okay?!" You asked.
She shook her head. "I think I sprained it. The fact I stood on it is a miracle." She teased.
Her eyes drooped and you shook your head. "Hey, hey! Don't fall asleep on me! I swear to god Dash!"
"Relax (Y/N), I ain't dying. I'm just a little tired is all." She said, then yawned.
Her body shook and she winced, pulling you injured ankle away of from the ground. You looked at her with worry. Her eyes drifted shut and you went into panic mode.
"Hey, hey wake up! Dash!" You cried, but it was too late. She was out cold.
You looked in the direction of Snowdin and back at Dash. She was too injured to walk. Even if she woke up she couldn't, but waiting wasn't an option. You'd freeze if you didn't get help, but you couldn't leave her alone.
You looked at her and heaved her into a better position on your shoulder. Some bruises remained from your tumble with Sans but that didn't seem important. Dash needed help and you were gonna drag her to it, even if you would get hurt too.

Your breath heaved as you broke the forest on to a clear road in Snowdin. No one was out this late, but you were still careful. A side-stitch attacked your ribs but your pushed away the pain. Dash was still limp beside you and it was honestly scaring you.
Tears streamed from your eyes, all originating from pain, wind burn, or worry. You knew your destination. You could stop in Snowdin and get the right help. It seemed to be your only option left anyways.
You took aim of the Skelebro's two-story home and walked on aching limbs. Dash's ankle had swollen and her brow furrowed, small whimpers of pain escaping occasionally.
"Hang on Dash, we're almost there."
You limped towards the door, closing the last few feet. You still held Dash up, but with your free hand you pounded heavily on the door. No lights were on, but you didn't mind waking either of them up.
Again you pounded, more tears appearing as the whimpers turned into an elongated hissing. You pounded on the door again. A quiet sob echoed off your lips as Dash fell off your shoulder, you arm too weak to hold her. You legs collapsed and you sat kneeling on one knee. Again you pounded.
This time you were rewarded with shuffling. You pounded the door again, even louder and you could hear the footsteps approaching the door.
It swung open to reveal an angry Sans, Papy standing behind him menacingly. You looked at the two with a tearful grin. "Dash is hurt." You heaved in a hoarse voice.
Papy's tough act dropped as he looked at the two of you. "Oh my god what happened?!" He asked.
You shook your head. "Something with her soul. I don't know. Just help her."
Your eyes dropped, exhaustion taking you in itself all too familiar grasp. "Please help her." You said again, your other leg failing and your body falling into a spiral of darkness.
