~Chapter 3~
Papy pointed towards you and Frisk with a blank expression. No magical bones or attacks came out of nowhere, making you ease away from Frisk just slightly. He seemed to enjoy seeing you so on edge.
"Through what I have observed from these humans behavior, and comparing it to the behavior of humans as they've been spoken about it legend, I've come to a conclusion." He spoke loudly.
Sans sat, watching his brother with admiration in his eyes. You smirked to yourself as you looked between the brothers. You'd seen it enough to know when the tough guy facade was just an act. Under the spikes and glares you could see how they admired each other.
You turned your gaze back to Papy, raising a brow. "Verdict?" You asked, tensing slightly in case you had to run.
He pounded down the stairs without a word and stood directly in front of the couch you sat on. He pointed a gloved hand at Frisk and began to speak.
"In the days I've known this child, you've displayed many desirable traits... Many that contradict from the legend human behavior. You've displayed openness, kindness, courage, generosity and most of all, determination. This makes you a valuable ally."
He turned his arm towards you and you waited. "In the time I've known you-"
"Less than an hour." You muttered.
"You have displayed traits of bravery, loyalty, wit, strength and passion for your goal. This also makes you a valuable asset."
He folded his arms behind him and straightened his posture. "This has led me to deciding it best I spare you both."
Sans seemed surprised by his brothers decision. "But boss, what's Undyne gonna say when she finds two humans running around Snowdin and in tact?" He asked.
You stuck your tongue out at Sans and laughed. Papy looked at his brother with a solid expression of annoyance.
"Don't question my decision Sans. If Undyne has a problem with them, I'll simply explain to her why we need them."
"And if she doesn't agree with you?"
"I'll take care of her."
Frisk went rigid beside you and you put your hands around his. "Don't worry Frisk, I won't let anyone get hurt." You whispered to him.
Sans glanced at you, then Frisk. His expression showed distrust as he examined us. More so towards you than towards Frisk.
You ignored the skeleton and stood, taking Frisk's hands. Clearing your throat, you spoke clearly so you had everyone's attention.
"Well, it's nice to know we have two more monsters in our side, but I have to get back to my friends so we can figure out a way out of here."
Frisk looked at you with sad eyes. "Can't I stay here? I like it here!"
He pled.
You laughed. "I'm sorry Frisk but I can't completely trust a person I just met, especially if the first time I see them is when they're about to kill you. And the short one seems a tad too far on the off side."
You turned your gazed towards your tall new 'friend.'
"I'm sorry Papy, but I don't feel comfortable leaving Frisk alone with you. So I'll go get my friends, and we'll come back through some other time."
He shook his head. "Unacceptable. Almost every monster out there expects you both dead by the time that door opens again. You can't just go walking, not without a cover."
You raised a brow. "Okay, you can escort us and claim that we're prisoners. Like you're saving us for this Undyne chick or something."
Papy ponders it a moment then sighs. "Fine, but you are aware that we will be treating as prisoners. Not as allies. No exceptions. We won't protect you."
You shrugged nonchalantly. "Whatever. I'll protect Frisk and take the hits, no big deal."
Frisk puffed his cheeks and stamped his foot down. "You can't keep taking blows like that (Y/N)! You're gonna get seriously hurt!" He warned.
You looked at him with a smile. "Don't worry Frisk. Remember, thick-skinned. And you're still in trouble for running away so you can't nag me for a week."
Frisk started to speak again but you shushed him promptly. He huffed and closed his mouth in submission. You stood and stretched, looking at Papy.
"Okay Papy, set us up. How does one escort prisoners here?" You asked cooly.
His cheekbones glazed with a reddish-orange almost too faint to see. He snapped his fingers and Sans disappeared, reappearing seconds later with two leather collars, chains attached. Your eyes widened and you shook your head. "Ah HELL no! I'm not a dog!" You snapped.
A rush of air and the collar was around your neck. Sans was behind you, chuckling darkly as he tightened almost too far. You winced and shoved your elbow towards him.
"The goal is to make us look like prisoners, not animals dumbass." You hissed.
"Sorry pet. This is how prisoners are treated here."
Papy rolled his eyes. "I swear Sans, do you have to make this look sexual?"
Your eyes widened and you whipped around, slapping the short skeleton firmly. Red-faced, you snatched the other collar from his hand and held it away from him.
"I'm doing Frisk's. I don't trust you anymore." You muttered.
Sans laughed. "It's your own fault for trusting me in the first place."
You growled under your breath and sat behind Frisk. He looked as uncomfortable as you were but you offered him a gentle smile. You put the collar on him loosely and handed the chain to Papyrus.
"Papy, you're taking Frisk's and my chain. I don't trust that fucking pervert you call a brother."
He nodded. "Fine, but stop calling me 'Papy.' It sounds too... wrong."
"Sorry Papy, but that's your name now. Deal with it."
Sans watched in amazement as you blatantly ignored his order. Papy growled and tugged on your leash, then handing it to Sans. Sans smirked.
"Papy what are you doing?!" You asked.
"Revenge human. Revenge." He chortled.
You tried to protest but Sans yanked on your chain. "Shouldn't have disobeyed Boss's orders." He sneered with an evil grin.
Screaming internally, you grit your teeth. "I'm going to kill you some day shorty."
Sans raised a 'brow.' "I'm taller than you pet."
"I'm not short. I'm fun-sized." You shot back.
He smirked and his eyes fell over your body. Your cheeks burned as you realize how he took your statement. You lunged at Sans to beat him but Papyrus grabbed the collar of your shirt and held you back.
"Sans, stop angering the human." He instructed, sending Sans a threatening look.
"Yes Boss." He said obediently.
Papyrus let you go and Frisk latched to your side so you were less tempted to kill someone. Sighing, you grabbed a foot of chain away from your collar and began walking. "Let's go." You said dully. "I wanna get this damn thing off."
"(Y/N)! Don't curse!" Frisk fumed.
You snickered and picked him up, setting him on your hip. "Sorry bud. I won't do it again."
The skeleton brothers stood a good few feet behind you as you lead the way towards Toriel's house. Monsters kept throwing things at you and attempting to start a battle. You were able to shield Frisk from a majority of them but he still suffered a few cuts and bruises.
An hour later you reached the shattered remains of Toriel's doors. Your feet were nearly numb from the cold so you smiled happily. With a quick snap of speed, you yanked both chains from the skeletons' grasps and you darted through the halls up to the main living area.
You could smell the scent of a pie in the air but it wasn't too appetizing. You darted up the stairs on tired limbs and wobbled into the living room with wide smiles. On the couch, Rey and Dash sat, each reading different books about snails.
You knocked a fist against the wall. "Knock Knock!" You chirped.
Rey looked up, then Dash. They're eyes widened as they looked at you, then Frisk. They both leapt to their feet and wrapped their arms around you.
"(Y/N)! Frisk! You're back!" They cried.
You snickered, "Wrong answer, but it works."
You set Frisk down and plopped down in front of the fire. "God! I'm frozen." You stated, put your hands around the flames.
Frisk sat next to you, mimicking the motion. Toriel appeared from the kitchen, her fanged smile returning.
"Children! You have returned!" She cried, hugging the two of you.
She pulled back and eyed you curiously. "Why are you wearing chains?" She asked.
You made an 'oh' face and lifted a hand to the latch holding your collar together. "We had to act like prisoners to get back here without dying via monster villagers."
Her face fell slightly. "Whose prisoners?"
"Two skeletons. They put leashes on us and we walked here with them to reduce the death and suspicion rates."
She growled and hit you upside the head. "You led two monsters to my house?! You half-wit! There's a reason I don't live with those monsters."
You rubbed the spot and pouted. "Ouch, that hurt goat mom."
"Good! Maybe it knocked some sense into you! Where are the skeletons?" She asked.
"Right here."
You looked behind her as she turned. Papyrus and Sans each stood in the door to the living room. Papyrus looked at Dash and Rey with a look of amusement.
"Human, were you planning to offer one of their souls in place of yours?" He asked.
You scoffed. "No! Papy, these are my friends. Orange hair is Dash, brown hair is Rey. Friends, not tools. Ain't no one here is loosing their soul." You said curtly.
Sans laughed. "Sorry pet, but that's kinda the thing keeping us here. We haven't left because we need another human soul to shatter the barrier."
Toriel growled. "Or that idiot of a King could use one soul, go through, and get the rest that he needs."
Papyrus looked at Toriel, and his expression changed. Both recognition and surprise registered.
"So this is where the queen has been hiding all these years? You are aware that King Asgore has put a hefty price on finding you." Papyrus smirked.
From the pocket of his jeans, he revealed a phone. His skeletal fingers tapped against the keyboard and time slowed.
Toriel jumped to knock the phone from his hand. Papyrus hit the last digit and was about to hit call. A cold sensation of instinct rolled over you and your soul reappeared. In a fraction of a second it returned to the shape of a pistol. You aimed the weapon at its target and pulled the trigger. A loud bang filled the air, followed by a cry.
The phone fell in several pieces, shattered by your bullet. You felt your actions become your own again as Papyrus latched his gaze on you. The room fell silent, Papyrus fuming. He held one hand in the other, looking at it.
"You shot me!" He bellowed, anger lacing his every movement.
"No I didn't, I shot your phone. Toriel's here because she doesn't want to be with this 'Asgore' dude. You can't deny her that choice."
Again silence fell as Papyrus stared at you. In a sudden burst, Dash yelled.
"How the hell did you do that?"
Rey joined her, adding, "Where'd you learn to shoot like that?! And where'd you get that gun?"
You looked at the pistol in your hand and furrowed your brow. Earlier you had summoned it, but you hadn't questioned it then. Now you were confused.
"I don't know, I just did it." You said, confusion in your voice.
Sans mumbled something but you couldn't understand.
"What did you say Sans?" You asked.
He looked at you, awe tainting his look, but smiled.
"I said you're a soul shifter." He said more clearly.
Papyrus's eyes widened. "Sans, tell me you're joking. SHE'S THE SOUL SHIFTER!"
You flushed. "Is that a bad thing?" You asked.
Rey laughed. "No! This is freaking awesome! I wish my soul could do that!"
"Ditto on that! Can I do any of that stuff with my soul?" Dash asked, looking at Sans.
He shrugged. "How the hell should I know? I've never seen your soul in action."
She rolled her eyes. "You don't have to tell me with so much attitude. I didn't do anything to you."
You snickered. "Don't mind him Dash. He's about 70% asshole, 20% dipshit and 10% actual monster."
He growled at you and Frisk elbowed your side. You rubbed the spot where Frisk elbowed you and winced.
"Did you have to elbow a bruise?" You whined.
Frisk nodded firmly. For a moment you asked yourself why he wasn't speaking but then you remembered he didn't like to talk around so many people. He was often too quiet to hear anyway so he only spoke in one on one conversation most of the time.
Toriel glanced at Papyrus and stood. "Okay Papyrus. I can clearly see your one of Asgore's puppets. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave."
You stood up, limping slightly as the numbness left you actually feeling the wounds you had.
"Toriel, Papy isn't all that bad. He spared me and Frisk, even though Frisk was already injured and I was exhausted."
You turned you gaze towards Papyrus and leaned on your good leg. "Papyrus, Toriel wants no part in what's happening on the other side of the doors. She wants to spare humans. If she hasn't provoked you in any way, you have no right to honorably act against her. Promise me you won't report her to Asgore. It's that or no alliance."
Papyrus still for a moment. He clearly didn't want to kill you, for whatever reason. Your guess... Frisk rubbed off on him and broke his hard heart.
He sighed and nodded. "Fine, my brother and I promised not to report Toriel to Asgore."
You smiled. Now feeling some sense of closure, you collected both collars. You limped to Sans, not noticing as your limbs began to feel heavy. You lifted the collars and chains and waited for Sans to take them. Darkness crept into the corners of your eyes but you pushed it off.
Sans took the items and looked at you with curiosity and amusement. "You're looking a bit tired there pet."
You shook your head. "N... no..." You said breathily. "I... I'm just a little tired. And my..... My head hurts... I'm fine..."
You turned your back towards Sans and looked at Toriel, your eyes feeling heavy. "Tori... Toriel, do you have any other healing stuff?"
You felt your pistol disappear again as your leg gave out and you fell backwards. You fell on someone but sleep pulled you too hard to tell. When you said you were exhausted, you weren't kidding. Your limbs were heavy and black void consumed your vision. Just now you realized how dumb it was to go out with a head injury not fully healed.
At least you got Frisk.

P.o.V. Sans
(Y/N) dropped the collars into my hands. Her body swayed slightly as she stood, the bandaged on her head had red peaking through. Maybe it got hit while we were walking through Snowdin.
"You're looking a bit tired there pet." I said, trying not to sound teasing.
"N... no..." (Y/N) said breathily. "I... I'm just a little tired. And my..... My head hurts... I'm fine..."
She turning, waving around a lot. With her back to me, she started to speak to Toriel. "Tori... Toriel, do you have any other healing stuff?"
She fell backwards, her eyes lolling back, then closing. It was like watching a small tree fall towards me. On instinct I put out my arms and caught her before her head could hit the ground. My cheekbones heated up slightly as I heaved her up.
"Where do I put her?" I asked.
Toriel, worry painting her face, took (Y/N) from my arms.
"Her injury must have reopened! Let me tend to her. The idiot just HAD to go right then and now."
She carried her down the hallway, leaving Papyrus, Frisk, the new humans and me. The taller one, Dash I think, eyed me with serious poker face. Her eyes squinted as she pointed an accusing finger at me.
"Don't get any ideas about this buddy. You're not good enough for our (Y/N)." She said monotone.
I knew I blushed but I didn't know why. The other human laughed. "You totally have a thing for her!" She teased, then grin falling to a serious expression. "Hurt her and I'll rip out that gold tooth of yours and use it to shank you."
