They walked in silence together, listening to the conversations around them. Neither spoke since both kept a close eye on the woods around them. Each had their guns out and ready, sweeping the area for threats. It didn't take them long to push through the group and end up in the middle.

"You know the first thing I'm gonna do when I get to the beach?" Miller asked Drew up ahead of them.

"No, what?"

"I am going surfing." Miller replied confidently. Jamie snorted in doubt and grinned at Bellamy when he looked down at her.

"Quiet, keep your eyes open." Jasper reminded the two, directly in front of Jamie, moving his own gun around them.

"No more woods. Hear the ocean. No damn trees, just pale blue water." Drew threw over his shoulder at Jasper.

Jasper rolled his eyes at Jamie and she just shrugged at him with a playful grin. She made sure to keep an eye on Octavia, who was walking at the front. As she watched, Octavia held her hand up, stopping the group. Jamie glanced at Bellamy and both moved closer to the front, to Octavia with Jasper shadowing them.

Jasper, still looking around asked, "what is it?"

They stood silent for a few moments before Jasper added, "I don't see anything." And they all continued to search the woods around them.

Jamie turned to Jasper as he spoke and saw a metal weapon launch through the air and lodge itself in Drew's face. Everyone watched as the boy fell to the ground, lifeless. Jasper staggered back into Jamie with wide, frightened eyes. "Grounders!" He shouted, causing all the delinquents to scatter. Jamie wrapped her arm around the boy and forced him behind her, pushing him towards camp. "Run Jazz!" She shouted, pushing him more forcefully away from danger.

Everyone turned back to retreat to camp in a panic and Jamie held back to make sure everyone made it back safely. Bellamy stood by the gates, ushering people in frantically trying to get everyone inside. "Move, move, move!"

Jasper ran faster than the majority of the group and made his way to the wall as a lookout. "I don't see anyone!"

Octavia replied to him as soon as she ran into the camp, in the thick of the group. "They're right behind us! Go! Go!"

Jamie's eyes searched the area as she ran behind the last few campers, pushing everyone towards the gates. "Hurry!"

"Behind the wall!" Octavia yelled out, turning to usher more frantic people inside.

Finn had ditched the stretcher and was carrying Raven with another boy's help, right in front of Jamie, they were among the last delinquents to go through. "Close the gate! Close the gate!" Finn yelled out, just as they were close enough.

Bellamy's eyes met Jamie's as she ran in and he grabbed her arm and pulled her up on the wall beside him with his gun trained on the woods. "Where are they?" He asked breathlessly, pulling her closer to him.

She pulled her gun up as well, glancing down as Octavia and Finn helped to close the gates. Her eyes returned to the perimeter and she shook her head as Clarke climbed up beside her.

"Why aren't they attacking?" Bellamy asked, sparing a glance at Jamie.

Jamie's eyes continued to scan the trees as Clarke realized what was happening. "Because we're doing exactly what they wanted us to do."

"What are you talking about?" Bellamy looked at her with an arch in his brow, weapon still raised.

Clarke turned and looked down at Finn. "Lincoln said the scouts would be the first to arrive."

Octavia looked up at her then and shook her head. "If it's just scouts we can fight our way out. That's what Lincoln would do."

Bellamy shook his head and jumped down from the wall. "We're done doing what that grounder would do. We tried it and now Drew is dead." He turned to Octavia when his feet were on the ground. "You want to be next?"

Octavia's eyes narrowed as she looked at Bellamy. "That grounder saved our lives."

"I agree with Octavia." Finn added, looking from Octavia then back to Bellamy before looking up at Clarke and Jamie. "For all we know, there's one scout out there."

Jasper turned and looked down at them from his position on the wall. "One scout with insanely good aim."

Octavia moved so she could see Clarke better, crossing her arms over her chest. "Clarke, we can still do this."

Clarke stared down at them, all looking at her for an answer, and thought about their options. Her eyes met Jamie's and she stared at her cousin, wanting an answer. "If we run we can get picked off but if we stay here..." She whispered, thinking everything through. Her eyes were wide with panic and indecision as she stared at Jamie. She turned and looked out at the sea of kids standing below them, waiting to hear what they should do.

"Looking to you princess, what's it going to be?" Bellamy asked her, gun still partially raised. "Run and get picked off out in the open or stand and fight back?"

Clarke turned and looked out at the woods for a few moments before glancing back at Jamie with an arch in her brow.

Jamie nodded encouragingly to her. "You know what you want to do, Clarke."

Clarke nodded and turned, jumping off the wall with Jamie in tow.

"Clarke," Finn gently grabbed her arm and turned her to him, "if we're still here when Tristan gets here..."

"Lincoln said scouts. More than one." Clarke cut him off with an arch in her brow. "He said, get home before the scouts arrive. Finn, they're already here." She turned to Bellamy, who looked like he was ready to go with Jamie moving to stand beside him.

"Looks like you've got your fight."

Bellamy nodded at Clarke before turning towards the group. "This is what we've been preparing for! Kill them before they kill us!"

Jamie watched Finn and Octavia both turn away, disappointed in the outcome and turned to Clarke to find her also watching Finn retreat. Jamie grabbed Clarke's arm gently and Clarke's sad gaze shifted to hers. "Hey, this is what has to happen. He'll come around don't worry."

Clarke smiled lightly at her and nodded with teary eyes as Bellamy yelled out, "gunners to your posts! Use the tunnels to get in and out!"

Jamie hugged Clarke and turned to Bellamy as Clarke retreated into the dropship.

Bellamy ran his hand down her arm lightly before his eyes shifted up to hers. "Be careful."

Jamie's eyes teared up as she stared back at him. She always did hate goodbyes. "You too, Bell." She cleared her throat, turned and disappeared into the crowd; leaving him behind to whisper, "may we meet again" to her retreating form.

"From now on the gates stay closed!"

Jamie had a small smile on her face as Bellamy's voice echoed through the camp. Her misty eyes cleared as she finally reached Jasper and together they ran to their designated foxhole, using the tunnel to get there.

"Jay!"

She turned with horror in her eyes as Octavia ran to her carrying a large blade. "What are you doing out here? Go back inside the walls where you'll be safe!"

"No way, if you're fighting then I'm with you." Octavia's unwavering gaze held Jamie's and the blonde nodded reluctantly. "Okay, let's go." She grabbed Octavia's wrist and they ran through the tunnel and to their foxhole without incident, Jasper leading the way.

The walkie talkie crackled in Jasper's hand and they all turned to listen as they settled into their positions in the foxhole.

"All foxholes listen up! Keep your eyes and ears open! Inflict as many casualties as possible! You can hold them off long enough to make them turn back. That's the plan."

"That's the plan?" Jasper whispered, leaning closer to Jamie. Octavia leaned forward to look at him from Jamie's other side, worry creasing her brow, both waiting Jamie's reply.

"Some plan." Harper mumbled.

Miller shifted in his spot to look at Jamie as well. "Do you know if we have a backup plan?"

"Nope. Just stay focused; I'm sure they'll figure something out." Jamie replied, returning her gaze to the trees ahead of them.

"Stay focused? What do we do if we can't hold them off?" Miller asked her with a hint of panic in his voice.

She smirked before turning to him. "If you're asking that then you clearly haven't seen me shoot. Don't worry, we'll hold them off."

Miller and Harper exchanged a worried glance but said no more.

They waited silently, waiting for anything to happen and before long it was dark and nearly impossible to see. After what seemed like forever, the sound of war drums filled the air, sending chills down all of their spines. Jamie saw the others looking at each other out of her peripheral but her gaze remained on the trees.

Sudden movement right beside her had her looking up to see Octavia climbing to her feet. "Hey! Where are you going?" Jamie asked the girl with a tight grasp on her wrist.

"This feels like a trap. We need to get out there and help back up our people. We can't keep them safe in here." Octavia's unwavering gaze held Jamie's once again and she couldn't help but think Octavia was right.

"Okay, yeah. Let's do it." She turned to Jasper and smiled lightly at him before pulling him closer to her. She planted a kiss on his head before saying, "be careful, Jazz." She ran out with Octavia, ignoring Jasper's cries for her and they both retreated to higher ground.

Once they got outside Jamie glanced at Octavia with an arch in her brow. "What's your plan?"

"To use the trees. That's their idea so why not take it? It obviously works." Octavia spoke with such enthusiasm that Jamie found herself nodding.

"Stay close and keep your eyes open, they're going to be everywhere." Jamie whispered to Octavia.

The younger girl hugged her briefly before they both went their separate ways. Jamie climbed into a tree, eyes searching the trees close by. She hid herself in some vines and even became proud of her cover as she looked out into the dark night.

She caught movement up ahead and her eyes immediately focused on the shadowy figure in a nearby tree and once she had the shot, she took it. Eleven, she thought, eleven more bullets. The grounder dropped from the tree as her bullet pierced it and her eyes quickly began searching for her next target. She had a few knives tucked into her belt that she was saving for when her ammo ran out and now she was wishing she would have grabbed a spear as well.

Another shadow caught her eye and that's when she realized they were running tree to tree as a distraction, forcing her people to waste their ammo. Shots fired under her and she growled wishing she could let them know to stop shooting, stop wasting the little ammo they had. The same shadow moved again and the second it paused in the tree she took the shot, watching as it fell from the tree. Her eyes tracked the movement to the ground, remembering the area for when she needed more weapons.

The shooting from below her had stopped and she assumed someone else had figured out that the grounders were playing games with them. It was the perfect opportunity for her to take out a few more from her vantage point, hopefully with no one realizing she was there. After a few quiet moments and another few gun shots there was an explosion from one of the mines they had planted. She smiled to herself hoping it at least got a few grounders in the process.

A few seconds later another gunshot went off and another mine exploded and a depressing thought popped into Jamie's head as she watched the scenario play out in front of her. Were the grounders testing them? Making them not only use their ammo but making their ammo blow up the mines as well? She almost had the urge to scream at them to stop but didn't want to reveal her hiding spot just yet. Not if she could keep taking them out.

The gunfire below ceased completely and she was positive this was when the grounders would come. There was no point in not attacking if the delinquents had figured it out. And she was right.

Grounders flooded from the woods, in too high a number to even try fighting back. She picked off several before they looked up, finding her instantly. She jumped from the tree and made her way back towards the foxhole that they had been at, using her remaining bullets along the way.

She finally reached the foxhole in time to see Octavia's blade impale a grounder that was about to kill Bellamy. Octavia pulled it out and the grounder dropped but as she went to help Bellamy up an arrow pierced her leg. Jamie spun on her heel and threw one of her knives at the grounder, sticking him right between his eyes. He dropped to the ground like all the ones before him and Jamie turned back to them, watching Octavia.

"Miller, fall back now!" Bellamy yelled out, wrapping an arm around Octavia to help her. "Can you walk?" He asked her, slight panic in his voice. She wobbled on her legs and Bellamy easily scooped her into his arms. "Okay, hold on to me. I have to get you behind that wall." He glanced over his shoulder to see Jamie throwing a few more knives, hitting the target each time. His eyes widened when she frantically turned and grabbed the blade Octavia had used.

"Go! Go!" Jamie yelled, gesturing for Bellamy to run. "I'm right behind you."

He paused a moment longer before nodding and turning back towards the tunnel to get them inside. They paused behind another tree after a few moments of running as more grounders surrounded them and Bellamy quickly picked up the walkie talkie. "Requesting backup!"

"What was that?" A voice immediately replied.

"Requesting backup! If they take the gate we're all dead! Gunners stay in position!" Bellamy answered on the walkie talkie.

Jamie moved a few feet away from them and her eyes scanned the trees, widening when she saw the sheer amount of grounders heading towards them in the distance. "Bell, we have to go. Now!" She spun towards him to see him take his last shot. "I'm out of ammo! We need backup now!" He repeated over the walkie talkie.

"They've broken through! There's hundreds of them!" A voice crackled through on the walkie talkie and Jamie found herself backing closer to Bellamy. "We have to get inside, there's no way we can hold them off."

Another voice crackled through, "they're heading for the gate!"

"Game over man!"

Bellamy's gaze shifted to Jamie's and she could see the fear, panic, hatred, and everything else in his eyes. "Let's go."

There was an explosion overhead and everyone stopped what they were doing to look up. All sounds of war ceased around them and Jamie's mouth dropped open as they witnessed the fall of the Ark.

"Is that from the Ark?" Octavia asked from Bellamy's arms.

Jamie's wide, fearful eyes remained on the falling debris. "That is the Ark."

"What does that mean?" Octavia's voice hitched in fear as she watched it come crashing to the Earth.

Bellamy looked at Jamie and nodded towards the tunnel. "It means we're not getting any help."

"Jamie! We need Jamie in the dropship immediately!" Clarke's voice crackled over the walkie talkie and Jamie quickly shook her head. "There's no way we can make it there."

Bellamy went to reply as more screams sliced the air. They all turned to look around the tree to see another group of grounders flood into the area and start fighting the ones that were already there.

"What the hell is that?" Octavia asked.

Bellamy shook his head and set Octavia down and she leaned back against the tree.

"Reapers." Bellamy paused as Jamie leaned over Octavia and looked at her wound. "While they're distracted let's move." Bellamy continued, looking back at the girls.

"I'll never make it." Octavia mumbled as Jamie pulled away from her. "Leave me, I'll find another way."

Bellamy shook his head instantly. "I'm not going anywhere without you."

"Octavia!"

They turned towards the voice as Lincoln rounded the tree.

"Lincoln!" Octavia called out happily. He hugged her and pulled back slightly, moving his hands to hold her head in his hands as he looked at her.

Jamie moved closer to Bellamy and looked around them, watching with wide eyes as the grounders fought the reapers.

"You do this?" Bellamy asked Lincoln with a nod towards the reapers.

Lincoln nodded, smiling lightly at Jamie. "With Finn."

Octavia's breaths started coming in short and quick gasps, regaining their attention. Lincoln leaned down and gently touched the stick of the arrow that was still in Octavia's leg. "It's deep. I can help you but you have to come with me now."

Their eyes shifted to Bellamy and he hesitantly nodded, reaching out and grabbing Jamie's hand tightly for support. "Go, let him help you."

Octavia nearly scowled at the thought and shook her head. "No way, I have to see this through."

Bellamy shook his head as well before leaning in closer to Octavia. "You can't walk and I can't get you back to the dropship." His tone had darkened as he spoke and Jamie realized that he knew this was where they parted from Octavia. That there was a chance they'd never see the girl again.

"He's right. This fight is over for you." Lincoln added.

Octavia dropped her head against the tree as tears welled in her eyes.

"O, O, listen to me." Bellamy waited until she pulled her head off the tree to look at him. "I told you my life ended the day you were born. Truth is, it didn't start until then. Go with him. I need you to live." Bellamy's voice broke a few different times while he spoke and Jamie's eyes teared up as she watched the sibling's interaction.

Bellamy glanced at Jamie and grinned back at Octavia. "Besides, we got this."

Octavia smiled a broken smile and wrapped her arms around Bellamy in a tight hug. Bellamy dropped Jamie's hand and brought a hand to the back of Octavia's head, the other wrapping around her.

"I love you big brother."

Bellamy pulled back and smiled at her with a nod. "May we meet again."

Octavia nodded before pulling Jamie into a hug. "You're the best sister I could have ever asked for. I love you, Jay."

Both girls had tears trailing down their cheeks as they tightened their hold on each other. "I love you too, Tay. Be safe." Jamie pulled away from her and gently brushed a tear off her cheek, she leaned in and gave her a peck on the cheek with a small smile. "May we meet again."

Octavia looked at Bellamy once again before her gaze shifted back to Jamie. "May we meet again."

Bellamy moved forward and helped get her up into Lincoln's arms. "Keep her safe." He told the grounder, entrusting Octavia's life to the man.

Lincoln nodded and ran off with Octavia; leaving the two people that loved her more than their own life watch her go.

The grounder fight continued to rage on behind them as Bellamy slowly turned to Jamie. She nodded up at him with tears in her eyes before wrapping her arms around his neck. "Time to get back to our people." She separated from him and he quickly grabbed her hand in his.

"We do this together."

Jamie's eyes sparkled with unshed tears as she stared back at him. "Together."

His grip tightened on hers and they ran to the tunnel that would take them back into camp. The sounds of war filled the air as they ran through the dark tunnel and Jamie fought as hard as she could to keep her mind on Bellamy's hand in hers and nothing else. She struggled with the thought that Clarke or Jasper could be hurt or worse and she couldn't afford to be thinking that way if they had to fight their way to get to the dropship.

They finally reached the end of the tunnel and Bellamy squeezed her hand before releasing her. "Get to the dropship! I'll be right behind you." Bellamy yelled to her, pulling her out of the tunnel behind him.

Her eyes instantly landed on Clarke and Finn, crouched behind some crates in front of the dropship. "There they are!" Finn screamed out, pointing to them.

Clarke's teary eyes met Jamie's and she shook her head. "They're never going to make it. Jamie, Bellamy run!" She yelled out as the pair separated. Bellamy picked up a gun that was right next to the tunnel and tried to shoot Tristan, the grounder leading the attack.

Three other grounders charged towards Jamie and she lifted Octavia's blade, ready for a battle. She immediately impaled the first grounder that reached her and as she pulled the blade out of him the second grounder lifted his own sword. She fell back and away from him, kicking him in the knee to buy her time to get back up into position. She brought her blade back up and stabbed the grounder she kicked, diving out of the way of the third grounder that had his sword held high.

Jamie landed hard on the ground beneath the grounder and rolled to avoid being stabbed herself. She pulled her blade out of the second grounder she killed and brought it up to defend herself. She could hear screams from around her, gunshots, crying, screaming, everything seemed overwhelming as she stared up at the grounder, his blade held high above her. The metal of his blade scraped against the metal on hers and her arms began quivering under the pressure. She heard Finn cry out to her, fear and panic in his voice but she was focused on the blade that could bring her death.

"He's killing him!"

Everything shifted in her when she heard Clarke's voice. The words bounced around her skull and her heart pounded furiously in her chest as she finally pulled her gaze off the grounder above her. Jamie's wide eyes landed on Bellamy just in time to see Tristan land a hard punch to his jaw, sending him to the ground. No! She didn't have time to think anything else as Finn tackled Tristan to the ground, giving Bellamy a chance.

When she returned her attention to the grounder threatening her own life, she couldn't react fast enough as his blade penetrated her arm that was holding her blade.

"Jamie!" Clarke yelled out as Jamie dropped her blade. She rolled away from the grounder as he yanked the sword from her arm and she screamed out in pain that the action caused. Her eyes landed on her blade and she quickly grabbed it with her other hand. She looked up at the grounder and threw her blade like a spear, impaling him in the chest.

Her chest heaved in exertion as the grounder collapsed and she gingerly brought her arm up to her chest. She could feel chills shooting up and down her body from the amount of trauma her arm had sustained and a light sheen of sweat covered her body. Her sleeve was already damp with blood and stained a deep crimson. She clinched her eyes shut tightly as pain flooded through her and she slowly staggered to her feet, spitting out some copper tasting spit, tinged with blood. She looked up at Bellamy in time to see him pull himself up to his feet and look up at her.

He made eye contact with her and started running to her, eyes widening when he saw the blood coming from her arm. She looked at the dropship to see Clarke disappear and the door started to close. She quickly moved to Bellamy's side still holding her arm against her chest painfully. She knew she had to wrap it and she had to do it soon or else she'd never recover from the blood loss.

"Come on Jamie!" Bellamy reached her and wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her to the tunnel. Finn followed them closely as they ran through the tunnel, all breathless, and eager to get as far away from the dropship as possible.

Bellamy's hands were on Jamie's hips, his grip so hard she was sure it would bruise, as they ran through the tunnels. They went from one to another, trying to get as far from the blast as they could in the short time they had.

"Go! Go!" Finn yelled from behind them.

"We're trying!" Bellamy yelled back, hands nearly picking Jamie up to get her moving faster. Her arm throbbed in pain and she became slightly light headed from the amount of blood she lost as they continued on. "Come on Angel just a little bit further." Bellamy pleaded with her.

They had just reached the opening to the second tunnel when they heard the explosion. The force of the blast sent all three of them flying in opposite directions and Jamie screamed out when Bellamy's hands were ripped away from her. The loud screech of the blast was enough to make her temporarily deaf and her head clouded instantly as the sound reverberated through her. She landed with a hard thud against a tree, her head made the initial impact and the pain radiated through her arm, making her vision blur.

Jamie lifted her head off the tree with her remaining strength to see Tristan charging towards her. She gasped lightly as pain flooded through her again, forcing her eyes closed, and the darkness finally engulfed her.
