EUNWOO'S POV

When I reached the venue with my dad, I realized that this event was really a big deal, much more than that I'd expected. The place was big and luxurious, everything there looked so sophisticated and ritzy. Greetings were offered out along the carpeted floor, dainty fairy lights added a surplus amount of colors to the parade of footsteps. I've been to several events and parties with my dad, but this is one of the most luxurious ones out of them.

A sweet melody was drifting through the busy atmosphere, and it seemed to be coming from the far end of the hall where a collection of violinists, harp players, and pianists were placed. I greeted some people with my dad as they talked about business and kinds of stuff.

"I guess you've been busier than ever from the past few years, huh?" A voice said from behind.

I turned around to see a man, probably the same age as my father. Dad chuckled at the man as he approached the man to greet him with a handshake. He looked very familiar, and I was certain that I'd seen him somewhere, but I just couldn't pinpoint exactly where.

"I wasn't expecting to meet you here, and that too after several years, Mr. Kim!" Dad exclaimed.

On hearing his name, my eyes widened, and the realization hit me like a bolt of lightning. He is the CEO of Jeguk Group, which is one of the largest conglomerates in South Korea! Of course, I'd seen him before, his face is everywhere, be it the billboards on roads and buildings, or television, or magazines.

I glanced around me, only to realize that everyone was looking in our direction. He surely is a prominent figure. I could hear the whispers of people as both of them exchanged words with each other.

"I know right! How come we have never met when we were living in the same city," Mr. Kim said.

"Actually, we shifted to Seoul two years ago."

"Oh, I see, so how have you been, Mr. Lee? I think we should now catch up often to make up for all these years!"

"Yeah absolutely, we should!" Dad said and then glanced towards me, "Ah! This is my son, Dongmin."

"Hello, Mr. Kim, it's a pleasure to meet you," I greeted him with a bow.

"You're such a handsome young man! I guess you're the same age as my daughters," he smiled.

"Thank you, Mr. Kim," I replied politely, and
then I excused myself as dad and Mr. Kim continued to talk. They seemed like good old friends. I was curious as to how they knew each other.

I wanted some fresh air, so I came up to the rooftop of the building. I stood up by the railings and looked up at the serene night sky, which was illuminated with the moonlight and bright stars. I closed my eyes, feeling the cool night breeze brush past my body lightly, leaving a tingling cold sensation to linger on my exposed skin.

My eyes fluttered open when I heard a shuffling of footsteps, and they were getting louder and louder with every second passing by. I was standing in a corner, but whoever just came to the terrace, didn't pay any attention to me and went to the other side. Shrugging my shoulders, I simply plugged in my earphones and sat down on the nearby bench.

I was so immersed in listening to the music while enjoying the tranquility of night that I didn't even realize for how long I'd been sitting there. After checking the time, I immediately got up and was about to leave, but someone's muffled sobs made me stop in my tracks.

I immediately trudged towards the other side of the terrace. A feminine figure was curled up on the bench with her face buried in her hands. Her long hairs flowed with the night breeze carelessly, and her shoulders shuddered vigorously as she sobbed.

Who is she? Shall I approach her? - was the first thought that came to my mind.

After having an inner monologue for a few good seconds, I finally decided to go and ask her if she was okay. But just then lifted her head up and my eyes caught a slight glimpse of her face, causing a gasp to escape my lips. My eyes were as wide as the round balls, and I blinked several times to confirm if I wasn't being delusional.

But that girl was indeed Kim Y/n.

She didn't notice me yet. It was the first time I was seeing this side of her. Usually, she's the one who makes others cry, and seeing her crying like this was giving me chills. Her sobs were getting louder and louder, and I stood there in dilemma whether to ignore her or go to her.

"Why is my life like this!? Can't I live simply like others? What did I do to deserve this?" She suddenly bawled out. I stood there in puzzlement, thinking what could've possibly made her cry like this. Right now, she was not that arrogant y/n whom I've known till now. Instead, she seemed to be completely messed up, fragile, and vulnerable.

"Mom, I can't do this anymore. Why did you leave me in this cruel world alone? Huh...mom why!? Please c-come back to me. I miss you, I m-miss you so much! I can't do this anymore, I can't!" She shouted again, pain was clearly laced in her voice.

I stood rooted to the ground there, shocked at her sudden confession. I never thought that she was this much broken from inside. I couldn't even bring myself to approach her, and just watched her lamenting and crying her heart out. Those sobs held pain and pure agony; they were the evidence of the deep scars she'd been carrying.

"Mom, I can't stay like this anymore. I'm done with this fake life, I'm done with hurting others, I'm done with everything. This world is cruel, I can't l-live with this facade any more, mom. It ...it hurts. There's no point...no point in living this life anymore, I'm c-c-coming to you"

My eyes shot up at her statement. And she was already climbing on the railings. She looked up at the sky and wiped her tears and whispered something which my ears couldn't catch. Realizing what she was about to do, without any second thought, I immediately ran sprinted towards her. Just before she could lift her feet, I grabbed her hand and pulled her down with a strong force.

I landed on the concrete with her on top of me. I breathed a sigh of relief, ignoring the pain due to hitting my elbow on the concrete. She was in my arms, safe and completely fine.

I opened my eyes, only to find her staring at my face in shock. Her eyes were red and puffy due to crying, full of despair and pain. "Are you fine? You're not hurt anywhere, right?" I asked her, helping her to sit straight. She didn't answer anything, but instead more tears started rolling down her cheeks.

"Hey, it's fine, everything's going to be fine," I spoke softly.

She looked up at me and then those dreadful words left her mouth, "why...why did you save me? I... I wanted to die!"

On hearing those words, I felt like someone had stabbed me with a knife. A sudden gush of guilt engulfed me when I realized that how much I'd despised her, without even being aware of what she's going through. I felt tears welling up in my own eyes and without thinking much, I took her in my embrace. She tried to push me, but I held her hands, preventing her to do so.

"Cry all you want," I said, and with that, the streams of tears broke completely free through her eyes. Her fingers clutched my shirt tightly as she wailed.

With time, her sobs got lower and lower, and then she was all quiet, not even moving. I looked at her and patted her cheeks, but no response. I realized that she had passed out in my arms while crying.

"I'm relieved that I was here to save you today," I mumbled, looking at her worn-out face.
