"So, am I still allowed to go home tomorrow?" Liesel piped up, maybe sounding a little desperate. The nurse which was checking her over had decided to fully open the curtains. Liesel had asked Gretchen to slightly close them, movement with one leg basically in a cast was really not an easy thing to accomplish. Because the day was apparently: "Really nice and sunny," the nurse couldn't figure out why Liesel wasn't allowing all the apparent nice sun into the room. Maybe because she couldn't get out in it? That could be why.
But, to get to the window the nurse had to pass the bathroom. Admittedly, Liesel could vaguely see Erik loitering and looking in, and though the nurse didn't seem the most observant; Liesel really wasn't feeling too confident on Erik's continuation of being a silent statue in the dark, and the nurse not notice him out of the corner of her eye.
Liesel had spent her days in the hospital watching the news and trying to stay as up to date as possible. It had showed what had happened, after all the cameras which were present were still rolling. The whole world was now well and truly aware to mutants existing, and some more than others being extremely powerful, not to forgetting insanely clever. Considering the little speech Erik gave to the whole world watching, even Liesel was rather certain the nurse may recognise him. So to distract her, she had piped up talking. It had worked, the nurse had stopped in her efforts to get to the window.
"As long as you're all okay, and the doctor is fine with it; then yes, you will be discharged." The nurse moved back over, "Is there someone to collect you?"
"As such, yes." Liesel mused.
"That doesn't sound very good." The nurse leaned against the bed guard, Liesel kept putting them down, and each time someone put them back up. As if she was going to fall out of the bed.
Liesel shrugged and clapped her hands together. Rubbing them slowly she placed them in her lap and just looked at the nurse. She didn't exactly wish to comment any further. The nurse caught on and with one last smile, she turned and left. Liesel sighed thankfully, looking to the side she clasped onto the crutches which she had otherwise shoved to one side. They were horrible, two padded cushions which sat under her arms, and she wasn't even joking when she said they were uncomfortable. Awkward and uncomfortable.
Hauling herself out of the bed, once she put the irritating bed guards down. She then commenced swinging herself towards the bathroom. Reaching up with one crutch, she pushed the door open. Looking to the side she raised an eyebrow at Erik, he was just casually leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. Though upon hearing more movement, he looked down. Seeing as how no screams or other words were being shouted his way, he figured it wasn't the nurse. He looked Liesel up and down, the hospital nightgown which they had given her seemed massive on her small frame. Yet it did show off the cast on her leg brilliantly, he frowned at the sight of it. From foot to above her knee, her leg was completely covered.
Liesel looked down and then grinned. "Want to sign it?" Erik rolled his eyes, pushing himself away from the wall he stepped out of his hiding place, while Liesel awkwardly shuffled backwards. Her mobility was unsteady and awkward on the crutches. At one point Erik really did think she was going to fall over. "I'm still allowed to go tomorrow, I think." Liesel said while moving towards the window. She cursed and muttered to herself, crutches were now the bane of her life. She was never going to get used to these.
Erik stood by her side, "The nurse didn't sound too certain." He stated while crossing his arms.
Liesel frowned, "I'm still going."
"Perish the thought of keeping you locked up in here."
"There's no locks." Liesel stated, "And I'm allowed to go. They don't advise it, but there's nothing to keep me here. Unless they want to restrain me, not that they would. But if they tried then I'm going to seriously hit them with these. I'm taking my health into my own hands by leaving, but I'm fine." Liesel said while shifting her weight to try and stand in a more comfortable stance.
Erik listened and thought over what she said. Looking down at her, he couldn't help but feel like she was really forcing her words. Which made him come to the decision that she was apprehensive over leaving tomorrow. He supposed really she should, and would be. After all, she had got a plan together, then he appeared only to trash it and supply her with inspiration for something a lot more interesting.
He guessed she wouldn't feel as tense as she looked if only they had a proper plan in place. "I'm going." Liesel looked at him confused, he had been rather silent for a few minutes only to pop up with this. Erik turned and looked at her, "But I'll come back for you tomorrow."
"Well," Liesel said quietly, "It's nice of you to tell me this time." His eyes narrowed, "I'm just saying, you've not had a good past tendency of telling me when you're wishing to go walkies." She rolled her eyes and stepped the crutches forwards and hopped away towards the bed. Standing was starting to make her ache, horribly. "But thanks." Liesel managed to awkwardly jump up onto the bed, it was an action which caused her to land on her less injured side. She suddenly knew what a fish on a deck of a ship felt like flopping awkwardly around. It didn't help that Erik turned and looked at her sceptically.
"What are you doing?"
"I don't actually know." Liesel answered honestly, didn't help she was still holding onto one of the crutches.
"Do you need help?"
"I would appreciate that." Liesel said lowly. Like he had to even ask. It was evident that she needed help. He smirked though and walked over, agonisingly slowly. Which caused Liesel to shoot glares his way. He was making this moment all the more worse.
Erik reached out and held onto her shoulders gently, he easily pulled her upright. He stepped back as she moved her cast covered leg onto the bed, while she tucked the other underneath herself. With a sigh she lowered her head and shook it slowly. "It will get better, Liesel."
"Being hurt sucks."
"You're not meant to enjoy the experience." Erik rolled his eyes to the ceiling, despairing slightly that Liesel had even bought something like this up.
"If we were, I think there'd be a lot more injured people around."
"You're in a hospital, maybe not the wisest thing to say." He sat down by her side, there was room enough for them both to sit side by side.
Liesel turned and looked at him. "Sorry."
"What you said didn't affect me at all." Erik stated obviously. He wasn't a patient, after all. But there were people present who naturally had very little choice on the matter. "Just maybe think before you speak." Some people, of which, were no doubt horribly unwell and had no chance of recovery. "What time do you think you'll be allowed to go?"
"The doctor usually comes round at eleven, give or take. So by early afternoon, I suppose." Liesel shrugged casually and leaned back against the headboard and pillows. "Why? You got better places to be?" She joked with a quiet laugh, her laughter turned into a yawn which she covered with her hand.
Erik shook his head, nudging her shoulder gently he settled back by her side. Crossing his arms over his stomach, he turned his head and looked at her. Liesel was still laying with her eyes shut, seemingly asleep. He would think she was if it wasn't for the fact that she was smiling away to herself. "Would you rather me make you wait around?" He asked, "Or would you rather me be here for when you're finally allowed to leave?"
"Well when you put it like that, Erik. I think I'd prefer the latter."
"I thought as much." Erik looked up at the ceiling and shut his eyes. Though the hospital bed was pretty hard and uncomfortable, it was still better than where he was hauled up in. It was quiet in her room, even though there was a busy ward beyond her room, none of the sounds seemed to penetrate through the walls or door.
He opened his eyes and frowned down at Liesel when she swatted a hand at him. "Erik, you shouldn't stay here." She looked up at him tiredly, she had watched as he seemed to relax and almost slip off into sleep.
"Are you kicking me out?" He raised an eyebrow and smirked at her.
"I'm looking out for you." Liesel said honestly, "Observations happen every three hours. If you're still here casually reclining when the next nurse comes in, it won't end well. You don't need me to tell you that; so yes, I am kicking you out, if it means keeping you out of police custody."
----
It was a hard task to do and achieve in; carrying a bag while hopping and jumping about on crutches, needless to say it was a task which Liesel was slowly finding herself getting more and more irritated over. She was more irritated over the fact that she was even having to do this. So much for Erik being here when she was ready to leave, that wasn't to say that she actually expected him here in the waiting room for her. But she was expecting him to be somewhere. She stood outside of the hospital, swaying slightly from the effort moving took, let alone the hassle of trying to carry her bag too. Blowing a stray piece of her hair out of her face she shook her head and looked around.
All she could see were parked up ambulances, taxis waiting in the rank, other parked visitor cars and even a bus waiting in the nearby station. A roundabout was a little way up the road and there was a steady stream of speeding traffic. Liesel looked down at the ground and moved the crutches forward, she kept moving forwards until she found a bench. It was a bit of distance between it and the apparent area where all the smokers were loitering about chatting with each other. She briefly looked at them before she awkwardly sat down.
None of the people around seemed to pay her the least bit of attention, but Liesel on the other hand was watching all with a small frown and narrowed eyes. She looked annoyed, because she was. She was effectively stuck here. She had very little money on her person, it might be enough to get to somewhere, but she didn't exactly wish to go home, or to Charles's, no offence to either residents. She reclined back and groaned quietly. Why was she not surprised that she was still here, waiting? Looking to the side, she sat up and rummaged about in her bag. She had managed to struggle to buy things from the hospital café, so opening up a bottle of water she took to drinking it slowly.
Though she ended up narrowing her eyes and stopping, pulling the bottle away she hoisted it in the air, only to lower it with a threatening look. "So I kept you waiting, apologies." Erik had managed to appear without her paying any attention and noticing.
Liesel decided against not throwing her water at him, it'd be a waste. "I wasn't actually expecting you to be here, you know?"
"I said I would be." Erik frowned and looked warily around at people who passed by. The couple just walked along the path and into the clinical building without a glance to them.
Liesel rolled her eyes, putting the bottle back into her bag she zipped it up. With forceful actions and a smile she shoved it into his hands. "Let's go." She placed the crutches on the ground and jumped up to stand. She almost fell over, which would've been far from good considering she'd go planting into a parked car; with or without the car, falling would not be good.
"So impatient." Erik smirked and gripped onto the duffel bag handle. He stood up and swung it loosely by his side. Gesturing his other hand forwards, they made their way towards the taxi rank. Liesel frowned and looked uncertainly to him. "What? You expected me to make you walk to where we're going?" Erik rolled his eyes and shook his head. "I'm not that cruel." He laughed quietly, Liesel raised an eyebrow and looked back to the path they were walking along.
"And...where exactly is it we're going?" Liesel dreaded to ask, honestly she did but she wanted to know. It was more of a want than a need; she trusted Erik enough to know that he wouldn't be leading them to some place dangerous.
Erik looked down at her with a smile. "Need to know basis."
"I do need to know," Liesel pointed out with a frown. "Since when did you do surprises?"
Erik shrugged and opened the taxi door for her, once he had leaned down and spoke the address to the driver. The driver gave the slightest of nods, asked if either needed help but otherwise stayed silent as Erik helped Liesel with her crutches and into the car. "Since if you knew, you would probably have a moment of some description. And we don't have time for that." Erik said while lounging back in the car seat, Liesel had less of an easy time to get comfortable considering her cast wrapped leg was awkwardly stuck outright.
She grumbled under her breath a few times and tried to get into a comfortable position, in the end she sat sideways on the seat, regardless of it breaking some car safety travelling code of some description. She smiled happily now at Erik's apparent discomfort of having her leg in his lap. He shot her a look which she just continued to smile over. "We're going far then?"
"Well..." Erik trailed off quietly trying to draw on some dramatic moment which was just causing Liesel to sigh. "Yes." He answered eventually after watching some high rise buildings blur past the window. The streets were flocked with people all hurrying about their business.
"Where?"
"You'll see."
"Erik," Liesel whispered lowly while casting a look to the driver, he was in his own little world beyond the glass partition. "I don't like not knowing."
"I know, and that's why I'm not telling you." Erik smirked and patted the cast in his lap. Liesel frowned, though the action was truly one of sympathy, it still didn't mean she wasn't wary about sudden gentle pressure.
"That's cruel."
"Some people would say that's rather in character."
"You're not a cruel person, not really." Liesel said while leaning back against the door. She made sure it was locked, no way did she want to go hurtling out of a car, down a busy city street at who only knew what miles per hour. "The world we live in, and the actions we take shape us...I suppose you've had to appear cruel, for the sake of it. But you're not."
"When did you get so..."
"Mystic?"
"I was going to say physiological." Erik looked at her from the corner of his eyes. She shrugged and turned her head to look out of the window. They were both silent then, Liesel had given up on trying to find out where they were going, and Erik was more than happy to be left to his thoughts, the driver on the other hand suddenly had a bout of being talkative; which caused the two of them to exchange a look before looking at the glass partition.
Needless to say by the time the car stopped and Liesel was struggling out, she looked most confused at the sight of the airport. Her confused expression didn't dwindle at all, if anything it grew as she looked up at Erik; he paid the fare, hauled her bag over his shoulder and looked at her simply. Where he even got money from all of a sudden, Liesel decided to not even dare to mull over. Why they were at the airport, Liesel decided to ponder over, however each which way she did, she didn't seem to come up with a suitable answer.
Sure, she had her passport with her, after all she was planning on flying from the city to the manor, well not literally straight there but rather get a taxi from the airport to the manor once she landed. But no way had she ever even contemplated over Erik's plan involving flight. Be fair, car travel was a pain with her leg, she dreaded to think what being on a plane was going to be like; even more so if they were going long distance.
"Come on, as much fun as it is standing here, we do have a plane to catch." Erik shifted forwards and started to walk away. Liesel hobbled after him quickly, or as quickly as she could; which really wasn't all that quick at all considering she almost toppled over once or twice.
"Is this wise?" Liesel asked worriedly once they had entered the main terminal. So many people bustled about, children ran around their parents and workers of the airport stalked about with serious expressions.
"What do you mean?"
"You're not an idiot, Erik. You, here, people, public spaces..." Liesel trailed off while managing to remove a hand from the handle of a crutch and wave it in the air.
"Shockingly enough people's perceptions aren't too great. Look, we were both wanted people not that long ago, I for one would expect airport security to be flocking around at the sight of me; but they're not, because honestly, they don't totally care, Liesel. They know even if they did try and detain me, it'd fail. Not only that: as long as I don't interfere with their lives, I'm left alone."
"That and well...without a helmet on you're not really totally recognisable."
"And there's that." Erik said dryly while Liesel grinned triumphantly. Sure, his little speech may have held some truth, but at the end of the day without his gear, he was just another man waiting for a plane. Considering his helmet obscured most of his features, very few actually knew what Erik truly looked like.
Liesel shifted from Erik's side and went to sit down while he put her bag through the scanners present, she managed to pull out her passport before he did so. And now she sat looking up at the ever changing monitors, tapping the simple leather booklet against her palm. Looking to the side when Erik reappeared, she tilted her head to the side. "How did you manage this?"
"It isn't hard to get money, Liesel." Erik said while leaning his forearms against his knees.
Liesel shifted in her seat, he sat up and turned and looked at her. "I don't want to know."
"Perhaps that's for the best." Erik responded, Liesel just gave a slow nod before looking back up to the flicking screens. He looked up too, half wondering if she was trying to figure out where exactly it was that they were going. He smirked at that, reclining back, Erik stretched out his legs and crossed his arms over his stomach, she would never guess, no matter how hard she tried.
