Dying in Childbirth

REQUESTED BY: Aidan1213

A/N: This is TECHNICALLY really close to the 'if you died' versions that I've done before, but it's different enough, so here you go. Just as a forewarning for the future, please assume that I'm not doing any more 'if x dies' chapters. Everyone is aged up, same as usual for this kind of topic (and assume this is during your marriage).

Obviously, Nezuko and Shinobu are exempt (and the demons' will be slightly different considering my personal headcanons about demon/human procreation).

Obvious content warning: Contains character death and miscarriage (and mentions of abortion), but nothing too graphic. If mentioning abortion makes you too uncomfortable, you can skip the Akaza part.

Tanjiro:

Tanjiro was by your side throughout your entire pregnancy, as attentive as he could be. But when you went into labor -- and based off your scent, he realized you were dying before the midwife even realized -- he couldn't stop the tears. he stayed with you until your daughter was born, telling you that he loved you and that he would raise your daughter the best that he could.

You died in his arms, with your daughter bundled up to your chest. True to his word, after you were buried, he raised your daughter as best as he could as a single father. Nezuko helped out where she could.

Zenitsu:

When you told him that you were pregnant, Zenitsu was over the moon. He went with you everywhere, doting and attentive, hardly ever complaining. When you went into labor, he stayed right with you -- but when he could hear a change in your heartbeat, his joy faded as he realized that you were dying.

The midwife did all that she could, but the bleeding was too intense -- and as soon as your daughter was born, you squeezed his hand, told him that you loved them both, and died.

He was totally heartbroken, but he resolved to raise your daughter. He became a single father, though the Kamados helped out where they could. Nezuko especially became close to him as he raised his daughter, feeling sympathy for the loss as she cared deeply about you too.

Inosuke:

Inosuke had been fiercely protective of you during your pregnancy, as he was paranoid of something happening to you. When you went into labor, he was stringent with who he let in to see you, though you convinced him to let the midwife in. He remained at your side, watching your labor with wide eyes (and some questions, to which you and the midwife awkwardly answered). After twenty hours of labor, you suffered a hemorrhage, and due to your cries of pain it became apparent that something terrible had happened.

After twenty hours, your son was born, and you were weakening. You begged Inosuke not to abandon your son, and when he demanded to know what was going on, the midwife told him that you were going to die. He panicked, begging you to stay, demanding that you stay alive -- but you died in his arms with your son cradled between you.

Inosuke went into a deep depression after your death. For a while, he couldn't look at his son without bursting into inconsolable tears -- and the squad helped him through those first couple of years the best that they could.

Giyuu:

Giyuu had been very apprehensive about your pregnancy, his instincts kicking in that something might happen to you. He stayed at your side as much as he could while still being a slayer (though Kagaya allowed him to only take emergency missions to spend as much time with you as possible). You were glad for the help, even if he was a bit too proactive sometimes.

When you went into labor, he panicked. He'd already found a midwife to live around the compound for the last week or so, so all he could do was stand back and let her work with you. For hours he stood by, watching as you struggled through the birth. When blood started to soak the bedding, the midwife panicked.

After eighteen hours of labor, you finally pushed out your son in a puddle of blood, and fell back against the pillows limply. Giyuu tried to help you up the best he could, but you immediately fell unconscious, your exhaustion finally catching up to you.

You died a couple of hours later in relative comfort, surrounded by warm blankets with your son pressed against your chest. Giyuu had fallen asleep for a few moments and woke up to the midwife pressing his baby into his arms, quietly informing him that you'd passed away.

He was heartbroken, but he took your son and raised him to the best of his ability. At times it was hard; your son was like a perfect fusion of you and Giyuu, and whenever he did something that reminded him of you, Giyuu had to hold back tears.

Kyojuro:

Kyojuro was so happy when you told him you were pregnant. You had a relatively easy time of it, at least compared to what he recalled from when his mother was pregnant with Senjuro, and his help was greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, though, in the last week of your pregnancy he was called out for an emergency mission. He reassured you that he would be back before the baby was born, and surprise surprise, on the day you went into labor he came back to see you huddled up in bed. He immediately called in the midwife to help you and stayed with you all the way, encouraging you.

Along the way though, something went wrong. The baby was so large that while you were pushing, he managed to give you a vaginal tear. You screamed as your muscles ripped, the midwife yelling at you to push. Finally, he was out -- but your body was too weak from the delivery, and you were in pain from having your perineum rip.

You developed a terrible fever and infection after the birth that lasted for days, and after a strenuous half a week, you died. Kyojuro was heartbroken, but he promised to raise your son with as much love as he could give. He received some help from his family and the other pillars, but for the most part he was a single father.

Muichiro:

It seemed like cruel irony that you were pregnant with twins, but you laughed, so that lightened the mood somewhat. Muichiro tried to stay as near to you as possible during your pregnancy, and when a midwife warned that due to it being your first pregnancy that you were more at risk for complications with twins, he took her warning seriously and had her stay nearby for the latter third of your pregnancy.

When you went into labor early, he tried to hold onto hope that it would be alright. Hours passed and your screams didn't die down, and he worried. When the midwife turned to him and said that there was a chance you wouldn't make it, due to it being too much stress on your body, he squeezed your hand a little harder.

Your sons were born an hour apart from each other, and when it was over you fell onto the pillows, sweaty and exhausted. The birth had been too much stress on your heart, and after a few hours, you finally died with your twins hugged close.

Muichiro watched as you took your last breath, and then he bowed his head and cried. At that same moment, your elder twin son began crying, and his younger brother followed suit.

He tried his best to raise your sons as a single father, though he often had to reach out to his friends for help. Luckily for him, the twins didn't have the same stormy relationship that he and Yuichiro had, instead they took mostly after you.

Gyomei:

Your pregnancy had been mild so far, and it was like a dream for Gyomei. Every day he prayed for your wellbeing and for nothing to go wrong, and it seemed like his faith was paying off. Against everyone's wishes, you continued to slay demons while pregnant (well, at least for the first trimester), and all around you your peers respected you.

Everything was going well until your home was attacked while he was away. Your crow had come panicking with a message that you needed help, and by the time he arrived you were fighting off a demon while trying to protect your stomach with your arm, bleeding heavily. Gyomei immediately killed the demon before kneeling next to you, crying and asking if you were alright. Your response was that you were in preterm labor.

It took several hours of pushing where you stood, but finally your daughter was born and you collapsed, having succumbed to your injuries.

Gyomei mourned your death for a long time, but he faithfully raised your daughter with all the love that he had. She was so tiny, but under his care she grew up strong.

Sanemi:

Sanemi was terrified of getting you pregnant. The last thing he wanted was for something to happen to you, much less your baby. It took him a long time to finally relax, but just when he did, you went into preterm labor after having the stress of your brother-in-law dying and your husband fighting Muzan. He'd hardly healed his injuries when he got a message from the midwife that you were giving birth.

He rushed home as fast as he could, tailed by Giyuu (for emotional support). When he got to your home, he was informed by an attendant that there were complications, as you were still fighting off a stress-induced fever and your body was weak. He told Giyuu to stay put as he went in there to give you support.

You were happy to see him, but so exhausted that you could hardly push. About an hour after he'd come home, your son was born. Whatever joy he had from seeing his son quickly died as he saw you fighting consciousness. No matter what the attendants did, you died.

Sanemi was heartbroken. For a while he was a hermit, raising your son by himself. It was only after Giyuu visited out of concern that he finally began to open up, and with the help of the others he was able to push through the depression.

Akaza:

Akaza is absolutely heartbroken beyond repair. He was already apprehensive about your pregnancy, as the chances of survival with a demon child and a human mother were already low enough (no matter what happened to the baby, the mother would die). But when you insisted, he couldn't convince you to have an abortion and couldn't force you to turn without your consent. So he watched you struggle through a doomed pregnancy, growing weaker and weaker by the month until finally, with a gush of blood, you went into preterm labor.

You were frightened and in agony for hours, confused as to what was happening. All he could do was stay at your side as you tried to give birth to your child while dying. When you took your last breaths, the child was expelled from your body, writhing on the ground. His daughter was born four months premature, only having a brief glimpse of the world before passing on in your arms.

Akaza never forgave himself for letting you die. He spent a long time in grief, wreaking havoc on the slayer world beyond anything he'd done before. He never took another lover after you, partially out of self-hatred, mostly out of respect to both you and Koyuki's memory.

Douma:

Douma was against the pregnancy from the start, having begged you to let him turn you. When you reluctantly let him, he was overjoyed. The rest of the pregnancy was relatively smooth sailing (or as smooth as it could be for the mother being turned). When you were about eight months pregnant, however, you went into labor. Luckily, you were at the compound when it happened, so Douma had some of his attendants look after you.

It was a rough labor. He wasn't sure what to do, as he'd never been around a laboring mother before, so he stayed in the corner of the room, hearing you scream and watching you struggle. Around hour fifteen, the attendants began to anxiously mutter to themselves, and you began to bleed heavily. One of them went to him and said that due to the startling change between having a human mother and a demon mother, the baby had suffered as a result and had resulted in a stillbirth. It was currently stuck and was causing you further pain. Douma was worried, but allowed them to try everything they could to help you.

At hour twenty-five, you perished in his arms. At hour twenty-six, the baby was finally expelled from your body. Douma held his son for as long as it took the attendants to wrap up your body.

He was in a state of deep grief for both of you, the emotions surprising him at first. He couldn't stop crying for months, even while he interacted with the other Moons and Muzan. (It was jarring to see him smiling with tears streaming down his face, but they got used to it.) He kept his distance from most humans from then on, choosing to either eat or kill them. He never took a lover again.

Kokushibo:

You'd been turned before you even dreamt of getting pregnant, as Kokushibo desired an heir to his Breath Style. You'd always fantasized of having children, but you'd never given it much thought. So when you got pregnant (with twins, no less), you were scared -- but also excited for the future. Nothing like this had ever happened before in the history of demons (as every other case had been a demon/human coupling and had ended in disaster), so even Muzan was intrigued by it. Kokushibo still retained some memory of pregnancy and childbirth from his past (as he'd surprisingly been an attentive husband before), so in his downtime, he kept close to you.

When the time came to go into labor, you expected some things to go awry. Your aunt had warned you that it was difficult and painful, but when she actually came to your home to help you deliver, you were unprepared for the hours and hours you faced.

Kokushibo had been called away right before you even realized you were going into labor, so he was away for most of the night -- and when he came back, you were nearly unconscious, your aunt both trying to gauge the babies' progress and trying to keep you awake. He immediately stepped in, and she told him to try and keep you conscious.

Apparently, pregnancy had drained you far past what you'd thought -- and when your first twin son was born, you barely had enough time to hold him close before the next one was on his way. Kokushibo was alarmed, even if he didn't show it -- demonic bodies weren't originally meant to support life like humans were, and he didn't want yours to be the first piece of evidence against demons procreating together.

As soon as your second son was born (and pressed flush against your chest), you mentioned that you believed you were dying. Your aunt tried to get you to drink some blood for strength, but you were slipping under before she could get you to try. As soon as your aunt thrust her arm into your mouth to bite down on, you'd already taken your last breath. The crying of your sons filled the air, almost as if they could sense their mother's death.

Kokushibo took his sons, bitter with his loss, and reported everything to Muzan. His master was disappointed, but interested in the offspring left behind. Kokushibo raised his sons as best he could under Muzan, and never took another lover after you.

Muzan:

Muzan was already aiming to get you pregnant after he turned you, interested in what would happen if a pureblood had a child with a halfblood. You didn't mind, curious yourself. So with your pregnancy underway, Muzan constantly checked up on you, taking notes and comparing it to his notes of a normal human's pregnancy. To his delight, they matched up fairly well, and around the forty-first week of pregnancy, you went into labor.

Unfortunately for you, some slayers had caught wind about what was happening and tried to raid the fortress. Muzan told his Moons to keep you as safe as they could, but one of them managed to find you and stab you with a poisoned blade before Muzan could come and get you. He was furious, immediately killing them and teleporting you away.

You immediately went into labor, the poison weakening you enough that the sudden influx of Muzan's blood couldn't immediately neutralize the poison. It was a much larger dose than you were used to (having took wisteria vitamins every day to build up tolerance). You struggled through the labor for hours while the Upper Moons took care of the remaining slayers. Finally, around hour sixteen, you delivered your son... and died from wisteria overdose.

Muzan was furious. He did multiple tests on his son and found that, while weakened from the poisoning, he was fine -- but your loss was too much for him. He trusted Kokushibo to look after the infant for as long as it took him to go directly to Kagaya and try to kill him himself. Kagaya blew himself up, however, stealing the kill -- and the pillars were ready to storm the fortress themselves this time to try and kill him off once and for all.

Muzan tried to escape with his son, but in the end, he fell -- and the baby was discovered by the pillars and, due to the pleading of some of the younger ones, was given to the Kamados to raise. He grew up unknowing of his true parentage, believing instead that he was the adopted youngest Kamado sibling.

Yoriichi:

No. No. This can't be happening. Not again.

He thought he'd done everything right this time. He'd been super attentive to you throughout your pregnancy, never leaving you alone for more than an hour at a a time. When you went into labor, he took you back to your parents' for the birth, as your mother had experience as a midwife.

He remained at the compound, pacing worriedly for hours. He hardly ate, drank, or slept. For what seemed like the longest twenty-six hours of his life, he listened to your painful screaming coming from your childhood bedroom.

When your mother came to him, weary and teary-eyed, telling him that you didn't make it, his heart immediately plummeted. But when she handed him a bundle, a little baby boy, and told him that although slightly weakened, the baby would live, he felt a tiny spark of hope. He sobbed as he held his newborn son, not wanting to leave your bedside as your mother covered you with a sheet.
