Part Four: A Broken Spell... at a Devastating Cost

"Come now, what's the matter?"

"You're so pathetic, it's a wonder Timber saved you."

"He must be tossing and turning in his grave!" 

Night knew she didn't have much time left. The curse was absorbing too much out of her. At this rate, her Snuggleheart would... he would...

She couldn't risk that, she decided. But how would she do anything? It was going to consume her... She was out of time... 

Still, it was worth the risk as an idea came into mind. She had to try. She couldn't, wouldn't let them use her beloved for their schemes! 

Her airways were cut short, her breathing shallow, and everything was slowly becoming red, but... it was her only chance. 

One chance, and that was all it took/

"I... I-i love you....." she managed to choke out. 

Then, she lost all her energy. Darkness finally claimed her after years of resisting it. It could finally prey on her.... 

She would never get to see Snugglemagne, her Snuggleheart, break out from the spell, violet glow dying away as he regained consciousness. 

What...?

Wait, was that...

"M-Moonflower..." he walked over, hands shaking as he fell to his knees, the memories of what they had, what HE had done, echoing in his mind like a broken stereo. 

"Moonflower, please... wake up," he begged quietly. 

When he got no reply, he kept shaking her, hugging her, kissing her, getting more frantic by the second. His tremors were worse, yet he couldn't will himself to breathe. 

The only thing in his mind... was grief. Sorrow... 

What came after that in the stages of grief, though? 

...

Anger. 

They had made him do this. They had made him their puppet, laughing at her suffering. 

How dare they... HOW DARE THEY...

"Moonflower... I swear, I will avenge you... even... if I have to dirty these paws," he swore quietly, eyes burning with fire. 

A flame of vengeance that glowed eerily in the empty training room. 

He was not about to let them get away with this.

They would soon learn to fear the name... Snugglemagne.
