Betrayal can Lead to Outrage, Part Three: A Severed Bond

"A new villain's showed up?" Leon repeated as he swung through the city, using his web slingers to his advantage in order to reach the location given to him by Peter.

"Yeah! We don't know who it is, but it's someone really really fast and violent. People are getting hurt left and right!" Spiderman confirmed through the intercom. "It's all over the news now!"

"Alright, let's go take it down then," Leon said. "I'm nearing the place, so I'll fight the guy off until you guys get there, okay?"

"Do your best, Leon! This guy is dangerous!" Iron Fist warned.

"Gotcha!" he answered, and soon the villain came into sight, making him touch down to the ground in order to get closer--

Wait... that black goop, it felt... familiar...

The villain turned around, and Leon shook off the negative thoughts to slide into a battle stance, ready to take on this new villain.

But then, the villain spoke.

"We could have been a powerful duo, but you abandoned me, Leon Carter. I will make you pay for that.

His eyes widened. Wait, that voice...

He had heard it in his head during the extraction process, in the form of a blinding screech that threatened to destroy his eardrums...

Yet he would recognise it anywhere.

"Y-You're..."

"Yes, I am the Symbiote you chose to leave behind. I am now named Outrage, and it was given to me by my new partner," the Symbiote grinned, showing off the razor-sharp teeth it owned. "It wasn't all bad, I suppose. This host is seething with rage, and I like it. Jealousy, envy, so much adrenaline, and it's perfect for me."

Jealousy? Envy? What was he talking about?

His next words made Leon freeze up.

"Thank you... for introducing me to Chris Walker," the Symbiote said as its mask peeled off to reveal greyish blue eyes and tanned skin.

A face he recognised. He knew that face, had considered it a friend's for so long.

"C-C-Chris...?" he whispered.

"You took it from me. The chance I had made for myself. I thought we were friends, but you took advantage of me, Leon. You took away the one chance I had at becoming the hero I had always wanted to be," Chris hissed. Venom dripped in his words as he growled, "No more, though. I will not let you live, Leon. You don't deserve everything, you selfish hoarder! Not after you got a girlfriend! Not after you got the girl I had been crushing on! Not after you got the things I've always wanted!"

Chris lunged at Leon, and Camo Spider was so frozen, paralysed, and reeling from the revelation that he couldn't move his muscles to even deflect a small punch.

Every punch hurt physically and mentally, forcing him to reflect that the eyes he had seen yesterday, after he told Chris, weren't happy.

No, they had been filled, burning with an envious glint.

He had been so stupid... All this time, he had thought that Chris was his friend. He should have known better. He should have known that the popular kid of school would eventually turn his back on anyone who crossed him.

He couldn't believe it, yet, at the same time, it all made sense. The dots connected so perfectly he cursed himself out for not realising, for being such a fool.

He didn't know when he started crying, when the salty liquid fell into his mouth, but it enraged Chris even more, "Why are you crying?! You're the one who took everything! How dare you!"

Before he could launch another punch, though, he suddenly switched pace and swung his fist at Power Man, who dodged it. Camo Spider was supported by Nova and White Tiger while Spiderman and Nova threw their own attacks at Chris.

He ducked and the mask covered his face again as he jumped, a gust of wind sending them back a few feet.

Chris yelled, "This isn't over! I WILL get my revenge on you Carter! I swear on it!"

"We will. But first, a retreat is necessary," Outrage agreed, and the two were soon hopping away, leaving the heroes there.

Leon fell to his knees, more tears soaking his shirt.

No no no, why did this have to happen? Why of all the people it could have been, it had to be his best friend? How could his best friend have done that?

He shakily got up, and was barely aware of the supportive hands from Peter and Ava as he stumbled away, numb, feeling only guilt and emptiness.

Leon Carter, for once in his life, was utterly and downright speechless.

That day, he lost not only a good friend, but his own mental strength, sapped away so quickly by the stinging feeling of betrayal. It left a bitter taste in his mouth, and he... he didn't know if he would ever be okay. Everything was so messy, so blurry. How was he supposed to move forward with his life? How was he supposed to find strength when his first friend since moving to New York had done.... this?

How was he supposed to move past this betrayal?

Would he ever smile again?

Would he ever find the motivation to fight his former friend?

Would he be able to find hope ever again?

The answers remained to be seen, the end of the road still blurred out by the water in Leon's eyes.

Okay, this is slightly longer than the other one, and it's probably REALLY RUSHED, but I hope you like it!
