Returning to the Real Path, Chapter One: Beginnings are always Awkward
To be honest, Kamkyung questioned his boss on a regular basis. Why did he feel the need to have some spies when he's the head of a Mafia family? He didn't need protection; he had bodyguards. He didn't need assassins; he had his own group of them. He definitely didn't need to find information through undercover missions. He had his own ways of getting them.
He mainly questioned it because he was the only spy his boss had. There had been rumours around the place, but the only possible theory that they had was that the boss was actually working with the police. That would explain a lot, to be honest.
But enough about that. Right now he had to think up a decent introduction. One with his REAL name. The one he had never used in a mission before. He had never, not even once, used his real name in a mission. It was protocol. So to see his boss tell him oh so casually that he was using it, he literally went into shock.
That was in the past, Kamkyung. He swiftly reminded himself. It'll all be over once you find that person and save the weapons. Then you'll disappear like usual, and no one will be the wiser.
Yeah, that sounded good.
But it fell into oblivion when he came face to face with a back out of nowhere.
The principal of the school, a jolly old man, turned and smiled cheerily at him, with a door behind him. A small one, but seemed to resemble a gymnasium's door, "This is your class, Tae-seongsaengnim. Class 2-A. They're quite.... Eccentric, but given your... Unique background, I'm sure you'll work well with them."
He blinked, but then recalled that this man was aware of his true identity. So it wasn't a stretch... Other things aside, what did he mean?
"You'll find out when we get to it, Tae-seongsaengnim," he chuckled, cheery eyes shining under the artificial lighting the building owned. "For now, I hope you have fun."
"Have fun?" He blinked. "I'm here to work, not to have fun."
"You'll see what I mean," the principal smiled at him. "Now get in there and teach them what you have to."
"Okay?..." Kamkyung looked confused. What was going on with this man? Was he okay?
The elderly only laughed before he spun on his heel and left, letting him stand there in complete confusion.
The only thing that he could think of?
This old man.... Seems like Boss.
He mentally inhaled. He could do it. He had gone through worse. He had scars to prove it.
He could do this.
Gripping the door handle, he chanted inspiring words to himself, and took in a deep breath.
The sound of the door opening was going to stick to his mind for the rest of his life.
Why?
Because one, that first meeting was the beginning of a new path being paved.
And two....
He kinda tripped on his shoelace and fell to the ground, faceplanting RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TWENTY KIDS IN THE CLASS.
The silence was deafening. The loud yells and chatter that had once filled the room had been replaced by a united group stare at the male in his twenties or thirties, who had just fallen to the ground.
Kamkyung was a skilled emotion handler.
But right now, the embarrassment had overcome him. His face had grown red. He was totally ashamed and abashed. So much for being a Mafia member. Even with all his training, he was still guaranteed to feel emotions.
And when he used his real name, he was expressive.
Thus the situation right now.
"C-Choggi yo," one of the shorter members of the class spoke up, shyly playing with his slightly longer than normal hair. "A-Are you our new P.E. teacher?"
"Y-Yes," he stammered, getting up while cursing to himself. He had messed up his entire first impression! He had learnt in his major in university, educational psychology that first impressions mattered a lot.
"Oh, is it a shoelace?" Another one, a girl with a high ponytail, asked, tilting her head.
"That happens a lot to the teachers in our school," the jock shrugged nonchalantly, adjusting his leather jacket.
Well, perhaps he could salvage it, "I-I see. I apologise for the misunderstanding on my part."
"I-It's okay," the first male smiled, pushing his spectacles up again. "W-We get that a lot..."
After a bit of silence in his mind trying to formulate a response, he finally replied, "I-Interesting..."
"Don't worry too much about it, Seongsaengnim," the jock shrugged as he got up, holding out a hand to the older male. "You're new, so we didn't expect anything else."
"T-Thank you for that," he managed, smiling softly at his helper.
"No problem. I'm Lee Jiwung, a member of Class 2-A. What about you, Seongsaengnim?"
He dusted himself after getting up, and smiled as he bowed towards them all, "I'm Tae Kamkyung. It's nice to meet you all!"
The colourful response he got made him feel better.
Somehow.
Something told him that he was going to have fun with them.
