No Boundaries, Part Two: Fears and Unexpected Souvenirs

"Lucy? Where are you?" Damien called out. His footsteps echoed as he walked through the empty hallways of Plumber HQ, looking for his crush. Ben had asked him to call her to his house, since he was a bit occupied with Rook. The poor guy had fallen in love, and he was completely clueless on how to react. That, of course, had triggered panic in the male alien. Plus, Lucy had apparently gotten a new phone.

Of course, that hadn't stopped Damien from protesting at first. However, Ben was adamant, and thus the cartoon lover was led to this current moment.

He sighed. This was ridiculous. He was bound to mess up with his words the moment he saw her stunning face- Ah, not again!

His cheeks went red, blissfully unaware that the person he was searching for had noticed him.

Lucy Mann was many things, and a prankster was sadly one of them. Seeing her crush nearby, an idea sprouted out of her brain.

Her logical side was kinda hesitant, but the desire to try this out, AKA the more mischievous side, won.

A grin came across her face. She hoped that this would be amusing to Damien. After all, he was the coolest guy she knew.

Hiding behind another intersection, she closed her eyes, conjuring all the detail she could remember of one of Ben and Damien's aliens. Her body complied to the command, morphing her humanlike limbs into ghosty ones. A scythe formed, and she took it into her hands.

She was now Ghostfreak, ready to prank Damien.

She heard his footsteps grow closer, which caused her heartbeat to quicken. She told herself that it was okay, that it would work.

But some part of her, a very tiny part, whispered sadly, "You don't get it..."

She frowned slightly, and shook it off. Whatever. She could deal with that later.

Oh, how much she would regret that little action.

But she didn't know that now, so she patiently waited for the footsteps to get closer before she jumped out, "BOO!"

The blood drained out of his face. He looked so scared there as he stared at the towering alien, hand moving to his scar upon recalling that time. What was going on? His fight or flight reflexes kicked in that exact moment, and he took a shaky step back, trying to hide the obvious pain that was reflected in his eyes.

Upon seeing that, Lucy's eyes widened, and she quickly transformed back as she tried to approach him, "D-Damien? Y-You okay?"

"L-Lucy?..." his eyes turned into saucers. The fear was now replaced by shock and disbelief upon registering the person in front of him. "W-Why... Why would you do that?"

"I-It was just a prank," she stammered. She couldn't bear to see the face he was making now, which was definitely not good.

"P-Pranks aren't fun when you're the object of them..." he mumbled quietly before he got up, facing downwards, and turned his back on her. "Ben wanted me to tell you that he wants you to come to his house. That's all really. See you."

"W-Wait Damien!" Lucy surged forward, managing to grasp his right hand. "I'm sorry! I just thought it was funny! W-What's wrong?"

"I-I... I can't say..." he whispered, moving to leave. However, Lucy's grip was tight, filled with regret, "Lucy?"

"I-I'm so sorry... D-Does Ghostfreak really scare you that much? I-I hadn't known-" She stopped, remembering how Damien had felt his scar. "W-Wait... D-Did he..."

"Y-Yeah," he slowly nodded, filling Lucy's gut with horror. "I-It was a long time ago, but it still scares me..."

She finally understood what that little voice in her head had been trying to tell her. It had been kinda obvious, thinking about it, but she had foolishly ignored and waved them off.

Now that was biting her where it hurt the most.

"I-I really am sorry, Damien," she choked down some sobs. "I-I should have known..."

Shock struck his heart upon hearing the sobs, and he faced Lucy to see the regret, the real sorrow in her eyes.

"Lucy..." he whispered. His heart broke a little seeing her break down like this. He couldn't let her feel this way.

Thus, he got to his knees and embraced Lucy, "I-It's okay. I-I'm sorry for being so secretive about it with you. I-I was scared that you would see me differently."

"S-Silly Damien," Despite herself, Lucy found herself chuckling softly. "Y-You're the most amazing person I've ever met. I-I would love every single flaw no matter how embarrassing or painful they are, j-just like how I love you."

His ears seemed to flap up and down in disbelief. His eyes conveyed the feeling, yet at the same time... Something began to bubble up.

"I-I..."

His courage came together. He could do this. Now that he knew that it was mutual, he could... He could do this.

"I love you too, L-Lucy," he finally confessed.

The burden fell away. He had done it!

Lucy's tears grew happy, and she tackled Damien to the ground as she hugged him tight. He did the same, tears staining their shirts. They stayed like that for a while.

Being in each other's embrace really made them happy.

Because it meant, it showed that love could come. That it could be reciprocated.

Perhaps their love was meant to be.

Only fate knows the answer to that.
