Hidden Behind a Mask, Chapter One: Toony Beginnings

"That's another wrap!" Kang Taeyang yawned as he stretched his body, rubbing his eyes slightly due to how tired he was.

"You should try taking brief naps during the afternoon. You'll run yourself to the ground one of these days," Speed shook his head in exasperation.

"Aren't we already used to this, though?" Monster asked.

"I wish we weren't," Rocket exhaled. "Why oh why?"

Taeyang burst out laughing, "Oh come on, you know how I am!"

"I wish we didn't," Monster deadpanned.

The four proceeded to burst out laughing, causing Taeyang to get some looks from the small crowds around, but he didn't care. It was nice to be able to spend time with his friends and just relax from exhausting cases.

Just then, they heard a shout of fear from an alley.

Taeyang's steps quickened, and rushed to the source of the shout. What was going on?!

He soon reached the source, and his footsteps slowed as his chocolate eyes saw the scene. Even under the moonlight, he could see the scene pretty well.

Blood was on the floor, splattered as a person towered over another. A hammer was leaning on the person's shoulder, and he could see a cruel smirk on their face.

His eyes widened, but he swallowed his fear. He was terrified, yes, and it was something he hated to admit that he had very often.

He had to take the step, though. Who would if not him, in this small alley.

"H-HEY! Stop!" Taeyang yelled.

The person stopped and slowly turned to him.

Even under the moonlight, he could see the features of the person behind a mask.

Eyes that made him feel like he was looking at a reflection of his darkest self.

"Ehhhhh~? Who are you?" the person smirked.

Taeyang was frozen. What? What was going on here? This didn't make sense!

His poor victim chose to quickly scream as he ran away, roughly pushing Taeyang aside before limping away.

"Humans are sooooooo selfish~" they hummed, sliding up to his side to whisper into his ear. "Don't you agree?"

Of course he knew that. He had been bullied for years because he was smart. Made to do their homework and stuff. How could he not?

But he believed in hope. That there was always a selfless minority. As long as he believed that, he trusted it would go well.

"Oho~ You believe in hope, eh?"

Wait, had he said that aloud?

"You did~~ Hm, I'm intrigued by you now. What's your name?

And that was enough to set his gut off as the thing a kidnapper would ask, pumping adrenaline into his muscles and screaming, "GET OUT OF THERE!"

For once, he actually agreed with that sentiment and ran out of the alley as fast as he could, never stopping until he got home, panting, sweat falling down his face.

"Taeyang, are you okay!?"

"1, 2, 3, your heartbeat is irregular..."

He could only stumble back in, go through his routine in a daze, and then collapse.

He hoped they would never meet ever again, because if they did...

He didn't want to think about it.
