Darker than Expected, Part Two

"This is the place?"

"I think so," Natsume frowned. "But all the alleys in this place look the same. It's a Youkai in a Youmakai."

"Good point," Ayame mumbled.

"We should split up to find him or her," Akinori suggested.

"I like that notion," Touma nodded in agreement.

"I don't think we'll have to. Neechan, isn't that the shadow?" Keisuke suddenly spoke up as he pointed to a cloaked figure hunched over a small cat.

"I don't know for sure. I only saw it for a brief moment," Natsume admitted.

"Well either way, we should ask," Akinori stepped forward, but felt Touma's hand grab his wrist, "What?"

"Something feels off about this," the dark-green-haired male said, eyes narrowed in concentration. "I don't think we should ask."

"But we came all this way to check it out," the priest protested. "What should we do now?"

"Erm, guys...?" Ayame's tone held fear in it as she slowly pointed to the figure. "I-I agree with Touma-kun..."

"Huh?" the two plus Natsume and Keisuke looked at the figure once more as it slowly stood up and turned to them.

"Okay I agree with you Touma," Akinori swallowed. "This was a bad idea."

"Nyanpire!" the feline bat spread its wings and flew up, finally letting the kids see who it was.

Its red eyes glowed as it towered over the Agency, growling, "It's time for my long awaited revenge... And you will be the first to feel my wrath!" before swooping down to attack them.

"Duck!" Natsume yelled, and they all complied, barely dodging the sharp claws by a few milimeters.

"Did anyone bring their watches?!" Akinori yelled.

"I wish!" Natsume shot back. "It didn't match the outfit, so I didn't bother!"

"Neither did I!" Touma ducked once more as Nyanpire lunged for him.

"Well, thankfully Akinori-kun and I have Youki!"  Ayame got into a battle stance, eyes narrowed. "Let's do this, Akinori-kun!"

"Ah!" he nodded, sliding into his own stance. "Let's do this, Ayame-chan!"

Natsume, Touma, and Keisuke looked at each other, a bit worried for their friends, but they had no choice. They didn't have the watches.

Unless...

Natsume bit her lip, turning to Keisuke, "Keisuke, you're good with running right?"

"Y-yeah, why?" he looked at her.

"Touma, your watch is at your home right?" she asked him.

"Yeah. Why?"

"Hand me your door key for your house!"

Upon noticing his surprised look, she said, "Now please!"

"O-Okay then," he looked slightly startled as he dug into the pocket in his costume and took it out, handing it to her.

She then turned to her brother and gave it to him, saying, "Keisuke, run back to our houses and get the watches! Hurry! I'm not sure if Akinori and Ayame-chan can hold up much longer! Make Touma's house a priority! We'll stay back in case!"

"Are you sure?" he asked, eyes wide.

"Definitely," she nodded. "Now hurry up!"

"Just..." he hesitated slightly before continuing, "Be careful, Neechan!"

She grinned reassuringly at him, "Don't worry, we will!"

He inhaled, but nodded as he spun around and ran, letting the uniform he was wearing fly in the wind. His footsteps took him to downtown Sakura New Town, and a few minutes later, he reached the apartment the Tsukinamis lived in. He didn't even use the elevator. Instead, he rushed up the stairs and arrived at Touma's house. Using the key, he ran in and headed straight for his room, where he spotted the Youseikens and his Ogre Watch on the table, sitting elegantly above his table.

Wasting no time, he snatched them both and pocketed them inside the jacket he had. Then, he rushed out of the apartment, making sure that he locked it before running back to where his sister was.

He could only hope that she could hold on for that long.

An exhausted pant was the one sound that Natsume never expected to be so relieved upon hearing in her life.

"Keisuke!" Touma smiled in relief as the youngest returned to them, panting but holding the two required objects. There was a hint of a proud smile on his face, and Natsume agreed wholeheartedly that it was well-deserved.

But they would probably have to save it until after they dealt with this Youkai.

"H-Here!" Keisuke handed it over to the taller male, before he nearly collapsed and got caught by Natsume.

"You did good, Keisuke," she smiled at him, supporting him so he could get his balance back. He could finally relax after all that running.

"T-Thanks Neechan," he said, the smile on his face clear.

Touma then strapped the Ogre watch on, shouting to Akinori and Ayame, who were getting really tired, "You guys did good! Now it's my turn!"

"Nya?" Nyanpire frowned, eyes narrowed as Touma got ready to transform.

"Possession! Genma Goemon! Lend me your power!" he twisted the dial to the twelve o'clock slot, letting the button pop up as he raised his hand before he pressed down on it, allowing the Genma to possess him.

"Goemon, kenzan!" the red Youkai roared out, a smirk on his face with his swords out and at the ready to attack.

"Alright!" Akinori cheered.

"You can do it, Touma-kun! But still be careful! Nyanpire is not an easy opponent!" Ayame warned.

"Don't worry, I'll end this as fast as I can. Since you already weakened him enough, one final blow should do the trick!" He grinned.

"Heeeeeee," Nyanpire's eyes narrowed. "I would like to see that happen!

"With pleasure!" Goemon charged himself up before he started slashing his swords everywhere, "Dancing Heavenly Slash!"

Nyanpire flew up, only barely avoid some of the slashes that seemed to come from every side, causing Goemon to grin as it rendered the vampire unable to dodge the remaining attacks, "A-AHHHHHHH!!!!!!

A flash of light, and the five instinctively covered their eyes from the blinding light that seemed to maximise Nyanpire's scream of pure agony.

When it felt safe enough for them, they slowly opened their eyes, blinking to shoo the spots in their eyes away in order to see the Lightside of Nyanpire.

What they saw was a cat with red eyes and a cape that went down to its knees. To make things funnier, it was only half of Keisuke's height.

To make things clear, the girls loved it.

"AWWWWW, so cute!" Ayame smiled as she rushed over and began squishing its cheeks, followed by Akinori's yelp of worry, "A-Ayame-san! Don't do that! It could be dangerous!"

"Nya~" To their surprise, the cat seemed to enjoy the gentle touch, meowing like a regular cat would.

"As expected from Ayame-chan," Natsume smiled, walking over to squat so they could see eye to eye. "Hey there. I'm Amano Natsume. We're sorry we had to attack you."

"N-No, I-it's my fault," his words were slightly muffled by Ayame's squishing. "I-I'm Gabunyan, by  the way."

"Gabunyan, huh?" Akinori crossed his arms. No one could tell if it was either because he was still suspicious, or because Ayame was snuggling Gabunyan like he was a stuffed toy. "Why did you attack us as Nyanpire, if I may ask?"

"Well, you guys had the scent of chocobo on you, so I was hoping to suck some from you..." he explained quietly.

"Chocobo?" Touma blinked.

"Yeah..." he looked down as Ayame slowly let him go. "I loved Chocobo when I was alive, but one day, when I was eating it.... A vampire came along... And I couldn't eat chocobo... I was left to roam the world drinking blood.... Until I was stopped and executed.... That's how I became Gabunyan... And I hated that even after my death I can't eat chocobo..."

"So you grew jealous of the people who could?" Touma asked.

"Yeah..." Gabunyan looked down. He seemed like he regretted it. "I think that's how I got my Shadowside..."

"That's so sad..." Ayame sniffed.

"Yeah..." Akinori nodded, feeling bad for the nekomata he had been so annoyed at.

"Hm... Wait, I have an idea!" Keisuke snapped his fingers, a grin spreading across his face.

The group turned to the youngest, blinking in confusion.

*****

"Awwww, he's so cute!"

"Thank you for donating your blood! May this Halloween be spooky for you!"

As everyone slowly walked away, Gabunyan smiled gently at the Agency, "Thank you for helping me get blood packs from people who love eating chocobo... And coating chocobo with them... Now that's an idea."

"Hey, it's fine," Keisuke waved it off. "It's common sense."

"But it's creative as well," Natsume grinned as she hugged her brother. "You did good Keisuke!"

"As a thank you, here!" Gabunyan closed his eyes, and began to glow before his Ark slowly appeared and landed on Keisuke's palm. "I owe you kids one. Let's hope to meet again."

"Ah, you got it," Touma smiled.

Gabunyan gave them a fanged grin, and soon transformed into Nyanpire. Then, he flew away, the blood packs on one claw and packs of chocobo on the other while the Agency waved goodbye to him, watching as he soon disappeared into the night sky, blending in with the blues and blacks above.

"Well, that's done!" Akinori grinned.

"Now, time to continue our trick-or-treating!" Natsume cheered.

"OH!"

And so, they went off, happy and relieved to have solved another case on this dark night, on Halloween.

Sorry if it's rushed. I hope you like it blackorwhite11! Happy late Halloween!
