Bonding in Worrying Times, Part Eight

"Hey, you okay?"

"Huh?" He looked up to face a trio of kids, all who had concern written on their faces.

"We asked if you were okay," the one with glasses repeated, tilting his head in worry.

"You seemed kinda down," the girl, sporting bright green eyes that reminded him of Acnee's, frowned a bit.

"W-Well, it's nothing much..." He tried to avoid looking at her, in order to hide his guilt.

"Hey, don't worry too much, Ahjussi," the last one sat down beside him, smiling encouragingly at him. "We'll listen if you need a shoulder to cry on."

The green eyes from the girl flashed, seemingly mocking him.

The last time he trusted orbs like that, he ended up nearly killing someone.

He flinched, moving away slightly, "W-Why would you help me? Y-You barely know me..."

They looked at each other. It looked as if they were worried about this. Was he okay?

"Just because we don't know each other doesn't mean we can't help you," The girl finally spoke up, smiling as warmly as she could. "After all, every person needs a little light in their life. The darkness can consume them if no one helps them. If we can help, then it makes the difference in both our lives and theirs. That's why."

His eyes widened.

Just like that, it all went down. His negative feelings were pushed away, giving light to something else.

He remembered, when Duri had forgiven him, despite all his misgivings. Even though he had nearly killed him, Duri had accepted him as a friend.

A brother.

A surrogate one, but still a brother.

"I-I... You're right..." He whispered. The kids were right. Duri... Duri had suffered many emotional scars in the past. His own light was getting dim.

With that thought, he got up, and smiled, patting all three kids on the head, "Kamsahamnida, aideul."

"It's nothing much," the bespectacled male shook his head, a smile on his face. "I'm Pada, by the way."

"I'm Pilseung, and the girl's Pori. We're glad that we could help you, Ahjussi," Pilseung grinned.

"You can call me Nebok then," he introduced himself, taking the business card Daisuke had made for him and giving it to Pada. "If you ever want to contact me, please use my phone number."

They smiled.

I have to go now, guys. See ya around, I suppose."

"Likewise!"

It was only after he had run for a few minutes that it hit him.

Did I just make some new friends?

Something told him that was the case.

A smile came upon his face.

It felt nice to have some new friends, alright.

Now, time to find Duri.
