"Okay class, today we'll be pairing you up with the other class for your hero lessons." 

Those few words managed to get Raido Mera's interest, one of the few things that did aside from crime warnings. His flame red eyes lazily looked at the teacher as he looked at all of the first years, including the people from the B-class.

After he was sure he had everyone (as in EVERYONE)'s attention, he coughed before he began to read the pairings. 

Mera sighed a bit. This is getting boring.... Who on Earth would want to pair up with me-

"Himekawa Yuki, you're with Raido." 

Mera nearly had a heart attack hearing that. 

Himekawa Yuki?! As in one of the weakest people in the other class class, despite being the twin of Fubuki, who's in my class?! And who you have a crush on. Shut up.

"WHAT?!" he shot up, glaring at the teacher whose name he had been too lazy to remember ferociously. "I'M WITH THAT WEAKLING?!" 

He could see the said girl visibly flinch. So did Jiba. Probably feels it since that guy is basically a weakling as well. She's not a weakling. Shut your mouth.

The teacher shot him a disapproving look, "Raido, do not underestimate your schoolmates. While Yuki may have been around the last few people to pass the test, it does not mean that she is weak. I believe that everyone has their own time to grow, which is why we do not discriminate people." 

Mera just tch-ed as he sat down again due to his teacher's glare. This teacher isn't a pushover. He knew that very well. 

From his seat, he could hear Koma pat Jiba on the back, saying encouragements and the whatnot, while the onion guy was doing the same to Yuki. He rolled his eyes. Those 2 had to learn to acknowledge their place in society. 

However, he was still annoyed that he was stuck with the weakling who dared call herself a hero.  He would rather be stuck with the Koma guy than her, honestly. 

She's a weakling. There is no way I want to work with her. But you have a crush on her~ GAH! SHUT UP!

The first few days of hero training were absolutely troublesome. He ALWAYS had to save her from the robots because she was always trying to help the others and never looked out for herself. In a way, it's cute and makes you want to wrap her up in a little cinnamon roll. N-No it doesn't! 

By the fifth day, Mera was really really fed up with this. He was ready to go Kaboom on her. And risk your chances at getting her? (scoffs) As if. I don't want to hear it.

That's why he decided to catch her after school and be blunt with her. Might as well stomp on his heart while he was at it. (gasps) How cruel of you! You're annoying. 

However, after hero training, he couldn't find her anywhere. Confused, he decided to ask Jiba. 

"Oi, Jiba." 

"Yeah?" Jiba looked up from packing his stuff, Koma nearby with a worried gaze on his face. 

"Where's Yuki?" 

Jiba blinked, "What kind of question is that? Isn't she your partner?" 

"I am not her keeper, Jiba. Have you seen her?" 

"I don't know," He honestly answered. "She DID mention something about getting stronger, but I didn't really pay attention to that." 

Mera blinked. Huh, the weakling wants to get stronger?  He just shrugged it off. Sounds fine to me. And yet you have butterflies in your stomach now. 

It was true. 

Why do I have this ominous feeling?...

Walking home from school was a piece of cake for Mera on normal days. He would usually stop by his favourite ramen store and buy some food to eat for dinner, since his parents worked abroad, then go on until he reached his apartment. 

Well, note that the sentence said "on NORMAL days", because this was definitely not a normal day. 

Why? 

Because before Mera could reach the ramen store, he spotted a familiar person stumbling to the ground nearby. 

Mera was at first confused, but as he took a closer look, he nearly gave a start upon realising who it was. 

Y-Yuki?! 

The bruises on her looked really severe, which Mera winced at, and her face was the literal meaning of a punching bag. 

Wasting no time, he quickly scooped her up and rushed off to his house. 

But the next few moments would stick to him forever.

He wasn't sure when Yuki woke up, but she still managed to say a few things before she went unconscious. 

These words made Mera feel immense guilt for the first time in his life. 

She sounded slurry as she spoke, "I-I'm so sorry... I-I must be the weakest partner ever... I-I was trying to get stronger b-by fighting all those thugs.... B-But in the end....I-I just inconvenienced you...." 

"H-However... I-I feel close to your heart... W-When I'm in your arms..." were the last words she said before going unconscious. 

Mera just quickened his pace to cover up his beating heart.

"She'll be fine. Just keep her here until she heals up." 

Mera just sighed in relief upon hearing that, "Thank you for this." 

"No problem, but why is she so injured?"

".... She was trying to get stronger to be able to get on my level... I-I feel so bad..."

At that, a smirk appeared, "Ooh, looks like you two have a crush on each other."

"R-Really?!" Mera went red in the face.

"Yep~ You should confess, you know~ The sooner the better~"

He sputtered, trying- and failing- to come up with a retort. The Raido family doctor chuckled.

"Ohohohohohohoho~" the doctor left the room, satsfied with the response.

"O-OI!" Mera flushed like a madman, causing the chuckle to escalate to a cackle.

Mera found satisfaction in beating the thugs up after finding out through the CCTVs around to vent out his frustrations at. It wasn't as if anyone would know that he had done that, since the thugs had been completely scared of him, momentarily forgetting that the law about using Quirks (in his case, the Motivational Fire Quirk, which allowed him to both motivate people and use fire to burn his enemies depending on their motivation. If it's good, it won't hurt that much, but if it's bad, that person could say bye bye to their skin.) was stronger than him. Not that he cared anyway. As much as he believed that two wrongs never made a right, no one messed with his crush and got away with it.

Fubuki was kind enough to help him buy Yuki's food, which he brought back for her. Since Yuki was still too weak to walk, she was put on house arrest in his house for the while. While Mera was wishing that Fubuki could come to join them, his classmate was busy with her own errands since she still had Hyakki, her younger sister, and Tsubaki, her cousin, to worry about. 

Thus, Mera's days were full of training, school and caring for his patient. It didn't really affect hir routine physically, but mentally's a different story. 

With every passing day, his feelings for her grew and grew before one night, he decided to confess to a sleeping Yuki. 

The confession was short, but he wasn't an expert in this, so excuse him. 

As he watched Yuki start to fall into dreamland, he reached out and stroked her hair, whispering, "A fiery guy like me can never cool down, yet your cold charms always calm my blazing heart down. Even now. That's why, from now on, I want you to be my hero sidekick. My one and only sidekick, dear ice princess." 

Then, he turned around and quickly rushed out of the room, not noticing Yuki as she opened her eyes, looked at the ceiling and squealed in happiness.
