Harry/Draco: 18

Harry wasn't having the best summer ever. It was a pretty terrible summer. Sirius was heading off on holiday with Lupin, and Harry was going to be living at Grimmauld Place alone for a month.

Legally, he could do that because he was 17 and could do the driving thing, but they probably shouldn't have left him without supervision.

Harry was already making plans to paint his ceiling with Ron and Hermione, his best friends, especially since Ron was itching to make use of his new brushes. Harry had been making youtube videos for a while and probably would make one about painting his room. Hermione would just supervise while Ron did most of the actual work.

Harry saw his godparents off at Kings Cross, then took the tube back to Grimmauld Place. The house was cold and boring, even the neighbours were afraid of the hulking black mansion and had called the 'peelers on them. It wasn't as if Harry was afraid of staying there alone, he was just suitably nervous.

He walked up to his room, probably the only part of the house he found welcoming. All but one wall was painted a soft yellow, while the other wall was an orangey colour, the ceiling was white. He had a four-post bed and a desk, his closet was roomy and the paintings on the walls were all gifts from Ron. Harry's prized possession was on his bed-side-table, a photo of his mother and father on their wedding day.

He used to imagine an alligator came out of the sewer and ate them, only narrowly missing Harry. Except, Harry's parents had passed away in a car accident, and he had been lucky enough to make it out with only a jagged scar on his forehead.

The teenager flopped onto his bed, pulling a box out from under it. The box contained all his equipment for filming videos, including a lighting kit, his camera, a bunch of stands, and a notebook full of ideas for videos. Harry flipped through the notebook, taking in each idea and then dismissing them, he couldn't do any of those at that exact moment.

His eyes landed on one small note in the corner, 'AMUSEMENT PARK?????????'

The Hogwarts Amusement Park had been Hermione's grandfather's park. The old man was going rather senile, but he was a good man who always slipped Harry lemon drops at dinner parties.

The Park itself was gorgeous, the big tent seeming like a castle once one was inside. All of the rides had been beautiful, the Gringotts Bank roller coaster stretched through the whole park and the Dragon Rides were pretty cool, lifting one into the air, like swings.

The whole park had been abandoned years ago, when Dumbledore, Hermione's grandfather, had begun losing too much of his mind. So Harry didn't feel bad sneaking onto the property and beginning to film himself walking around.

"Okay, so I'm at the amusement park," he told the camera, not bothering to introduce himself and his channel. He would film something for that later, right now he was focusing on the Gringotts Bank roller coaster.

"This rollercoaster was so cool when it was operational." Harry didn't think much about being quiet, the place had been abandoned for so long, no one was ever here. "And- Woah! That the Whomping Willow! It used to be such a cool ride." Harry then explained what the ride did and how it worked.

He stopped filming to check his phone. Apparently, Hermionie had been calling, so Harry called her back.

"Hey, 'mione. What's up?" Harry said into his phone, setting up his camera so he could film something a bit weirder.

"Oh, thank god you finally answered!"

"What's going on?" Harry abandoned the camera and sat down to focus his energy on Hermione.

"Do you know that rich dude in our year, Draco Malfoy?"

Harry rolled his eyes, "Everyone knows Draco Malfoy."

"He's been missing for three days, his parents called Ron's parents to try and find him."

"Weird," Harry said, becoming distracted by a movement in the distance. "Anyway, I was in the middle of filming, so I've got to run."

"Oh, well let us know when you want Ronald and I over, okay, or if you see the rich prick?"

"Will do Hermione."

"Bye Harry."

He disconnected the call and then walked over to the Ferris wheel where he saw the movement earlier. There was someone in a dark coloured hoodie perched on the Ferris wheel. The person had not climbed far, just enough to watch the sun going down.

Harry James Potter wasn't a smart person, almost anyone could tell you that, and maybe that's why he climbed up to the other person's level. "Hey," Harry called while climbing. "You do know that this thing is probably dangerous, right?"

The person didn't acknowledge Harry at all, just kept staring at the skyline. Harry pulled himself up to sit next to the mysterious figure.

There was a moment of silence.

"How's it going?"

"It was probably a bad idea coming here." His voice sounded like Bed Bath & Beyond as if there was so much going on in there that he couldn't focus on any particular aspect of the voice.

Harry shrugged, "Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't."

The man, or Harry assumed he was a man, turned, revealing a pair of light grey eyes set into a smooth, pale face. "Well, I was aiming to not be found, and you found me, hence, it was a bad idea."

"Why don't you want to be found? Did you rob a bank or something?" Someone should shoot Harry for his lack of tact. It's not like he could be faulted; he didn't have any impulse control.

The man laughed, "If I robbed a bank, do you think I would be squatting in an abandoned amusement park?"

"If you were a smart bank robber, you would."

"I like to think I'm smart."

There was a pregnant pause as Harry searched for the right thing to say to this, who-ever-he-was person. "My name is Harry." He reached his hand over for a handshake.

"Draco." He ignored the hand. This must be the Draco Malfoy Hermione had called about, the one who ran away from home.

Harry nodded, "Cool." What was wrong with him? Cool? Draco laughed, light and airy as if he hadn't a care in the whole world. Harry knew better than that, usually, people who laughed like that had so many issues going on. "So, um, what are you doing over here?"

"Hiding from my parents." Draco pulled off his hood, revealing platinum blonde hair that shone in the setting sunlight like silver.

"I wouldn't know what that's like," Harry laughed. He was comfortable enough with his parent's deaths to make morbid jokes about it. Sirius had this saying, 'You go to therapy so you can laugh about your trauma.'

Draco's eyes widened, "Oh." It was quiet.

"Sorry if I made you uncomfortable."

"It's fine."

Harry had no idea what to say and so, like he always did, he began to wing it. "So, um..." Shit, what was he going to say? "Why are you hiding from your parents?"

Draco sighed, "They want me to take over the family business and be raging, racist, homophobes, like them. Considering that I'm gay, I don't feel like being a homophobe, and, like, I have nothing against people of colour so why would I be racist?"

The bespectacled boy didn't know what to say to that outburst of emotions. "Wow, that's a lot of damage." Was what he settled on.

"Yeah," Draco laughed. "It kind of is."

They sat in silence again before Harry thought of the perfect thing to say, Hermione might kill him for this, but he was doing it. "Do you want to stay at my place?" The blond looked at him as if he was crazy. Harry then reevaluated his question, "Wait, no. Not in a weird sex way, in a 'you don't have a place to stay, and I have a massive house because my guardians are on holiday,' way."

"Oh," Draco turned his head towards Harry, again. "I don't have anywhere else to go, and if you are a serial killer then at least I'll never have to go back to my parents."

Harry made a mental note to talk to Draco about that vaguely suicidal sentence. "Okay! Let's go." They began to climb down, with Draco going first and Harry following. "I've just got to grab the stuff I came with. Be right back!" Harry shot over his shoulder as he packed up all his recording equipment.

"Were you filming the lamest porno ever?" Draco asked, walking over with his hands in his trouser pockets.

Harry laughed, "No, man. I was filming a video for my youtube channel. I guess I'll come back tomorrow or over the weekend."

"It is the weekend?"

The brunette checked his phone, "No? It's Thursday?"

"Oh, I guess I've been gone less time than I expected."

"Sorry, that must suck." Harry began to walk, Draco at his side. It felt natural as if having Draco at his side was destined.

Harry didn't usually believe in fate, and he told Draco as such. "But I do believe that we were meant to meet, you know?"

Draco did not know.

"I haven't been to that amusement park in years, and I don't think you normally run away from your parents and go sit precariously on a Ferris wheel. I think all this was fate, that we were meant to meet like this."

The smile that split across Draco's face made Harry's heart feel like it was being squeezed by a huge fist. "So, you feel it too?" Draco tilted his head as he spoke, "I wouldn't have come with you if that feeling didn't... happen."

They made their way to Grimmauld Place, and Harry pulled Draco through the front door. The brunette brought the blond through the kitchen and up the stairs, showing him to a green-themed room. "You can change if you have extra clothes, or I can wash yours and you can wear some of mine." Harry gestured to the bathroom, "That's the bathroom. I'll be in the kitchen ordering some food from that Chinese place down the street. Are pork dumplings ok with you?"

Draco felt as if his brain was being screwed on backwards by the whirlwind that is Harry. "Um, yeah pork dumplings are good, and I guess you can wash these clothes if you're sure it's not too much work for you."

"I wouldn't have offered if I couldn't do it," Harry smiled, making Draco's heart do a thing that is probably not safe. "Just leave your clothes outside the bathroom and I'll grab them."

The shower was nice, and Draco pulled on the sweater and pyjamas that Harry had left for him. The blond brushed out his long hair and pulled up as much as he could into a hair tie, yawning as he did. Draco had no idea he was so exhausted.

He walked down to the kitchen, finding it empty, with no Harry in sight. Draco had no idea what to do, so he just stood by the table, awkwardly waiting for Harry to show up.

"Oh." Sounded from behind him, before a small thump made Draco spin around. Harry stood in the doorway, a pile of clothes on the floor, having fallen out of his arms. The brunette's face was bright red and his eyes were roaming Draco's body.

"Um..."

"Wow, sorry, that was super creepy of me." Harry moved to pick up the clothes, "You just look nice." Draco was almost 100% sure his face was just as red as Harry's.

"You look nice too." Why was Draco so awkward in social situations? Just, why?

Once the food arrived, and they sat down on one of the many couches to eat, Harry began talking again.

"So, do you have many friends? Not asking to be weird, just that my two best friends mean a lot to me so, like, I was wondering if you needed to call anyone?"

"No, the people I hang out with have been handpicked by my parents to be 'good influences' on me. I don't really want anything to do with them anymore," Draco declared.

Harry took a bite of food before speaking, "Yeah, that makes sense. That you would cut them out, I mean. My friends, Ron and Hermione, are super cool. They're always there for me and they are just the best friends anyone could ask for. You would like them!"

"I'm sure I would." Draco would like anyone who made Harry's face light up like that.

"Yeah." The silence felt deafening.

"So where are your guardians?"

They made small talk until they finished eating dinner. Draco found out that Harry took martial arts classes and was good at it, he also found out that Harry can unicycle, which 'isn't something everyday people can do, you know?'

Harry showed Draco back to his room and then made sure Draco knew that his room was quite close in case the blond needed anything.

Draco fell asleep quickly, to the memory of Harry's first words to him, 'How's it going?'
