Chapter 1

"I don't really think I'm going to make it." I said through the phone juggling my swatches in my hand. I had a lot of work to do and no time to talk to my grandmother who was at the moment guilting me into going to my mother's wedding.   "Honey, Do you know how long it's been since we've seen you? Don't you want to see us? At least me? OH! Do you have a date?" Yea I learned my multi tasking from my grandmother.

"Right, I understand that but i am busy.....and yes I'd like to see you too. No i don't have a date. You know why. There is nothing wrong with being single by the way." "Oh I know that, I just thought it would be less awkward if you brought a dating considering the circumstances." "Yes, but since I don't even want to come..." "Oh nonsense. Look I'm not in anyway defending your mother for what she did. You know that. And she was wrong. But we need to stick together. I'm not getting any younger you know." And there she goes. The guilt trip. "Okay if i tell you I'll think about it will you let me get back to work?" "Sure thing kitten. I love you."  "Ok bye i love you too." I said finally setting the phone back in the cradle. Maybe now i could concentrate on work.

I was a designer. I designed furniture. I hired an assistant with a pretty impressive resume because Mrs.'s Perkins was on her last leg and i wanted to train somebody and ease them in slowly. Asher was an excellent designer and an even better assistant i was going to be sad to see him go. At that moment he walked into my office with coffee. He was going to take Mrs. Perkins place and i would have to find a new assistant. But i had some lined up to come in in a few weeks.

"Sorry it may be a bit cool i was waiting for you to get off the phone. I didn't want to intrude. But speaking of intruding. I can't believe you're not going to your own mothers wedding." "If you knew the guy she was marrying you wouldn't say that." He sat my Coffee down and took a seat across from me. "Do tell." He said.

I rolled my eyes. "It's just...well she's marrying my ex fiancé'." I said. "What? Were you dating an old guy or is your mom a cougar?" He asked. "Okay i hate that word." I said glaring at him. He gave me a look, waiting for a response. "Alright alright." I dug through my desk and pulled out some photos. "This is my mother." "Well she's alright i guess." He said. "This is David." I said showing him an old picture of me and David. "Oh he looks like a tool." He said handing it back to me. I laughed choking on the sip of coffee i had just taken.

My dark brown curls bounced up and down. I shut my brown eyes. "You're terrible you know that?" I asked. "But you love it." He said. His dark blonde hair was spiked to perfection. His bright blue eyes shining. He was wearing a button up shirt with some khaki pants. I was wearing a high colored shirt that was dark green and some white pants. The shirt had no sleeves. It was my work look.

"So you don't want to go to this wedding cause your mom is with your ex and that's awkward. Are you over the guy?" "Of course i was over him as soon as he choose my mother over me. I don't want to see the two of them together it makes me sick to my stomach, and my grandmother is guilting me that she only has a few more years left before she forgets me...."

He laughed. "Your grandmother sounds like a trip." "She really is, but i can't believe she is trying to force me into going. I mean hello I'm the one who's hurt here." "Yea and your siblings are going?" He asked. "Sister, i have one. Yes, she thinks he's great and she's glad he's still going to be in the family." "So how did they end up together anyways?" He asked.

I sighed. "Well i went to FIT and i was coming home one weekend and i got a flat tire. I had to change it which took a while. By the time i had gotten to the house they were getting pretty hot and heavy. So i left and called my mothers house. Of course no one answered but i left a message that my tire was flat it was too late to come . That i didn't want to speak to either one of them again and honestly i haven't talked to either of them since. I mean unless you count my mom calling. Like we're still okay."

"David didn't call?" Asher asked. "Of course, saying it's not what it looked like."  "And yet they are getting married, wow." He said.

"Right. He didn't like the fact i was going off to school. And well once i found out about the two of them i was a few months from graduation i moved as far away as i could. The wedding is back in cape cod." I said.

"You know what would show both of them? You going to the wedding and being the bigger person. Wearing a sexy as heck dress, with some arm candy." He said. "Well A. i have no desire to show them anything. B. I have no sexy as heck dress and C. i have no arm candy." I said.

"Well i would agree to go with you. Have tux will travel. Of course if my boss says it's okay." He winked. "And i could go shopping with you, you know be the guy point of view." He said. I tapped my finger on my chin. "Well it would be nice to see the rest of my family and Making David drool couldn't hurt i suppose. Okay, I'll get the tickets today. The wedding is this weekend. We can go shopping after work." I started jotting things down onto a pad. "I'll get back with you on the time. Do you have the swatches for the Camden project?" I asked doing what i did best: Multi tasking.

"Yes, Randolph has already covered the couch. It looks amazing." He said. "Okay perfect." I said clicking on the computer for plane tickets. California to Cape Cod was a long trip. But i made decent money so it wasn't a problem. "I'll get this ticket to you after work and we can go shopping." I said. "Sounds like a plan." He said standing up.
