Roger Davis- Alley: Part 3 (c)

You opened your eyes to see what happened and for the first time since you had broken up, you were grateful to see Roger. He was smaller than the attacker, but he was able to use the man's drunken state against him and get him knocked down to the ground, unconsciously lying in the dirt.

"Are you okay?" Roger asked, turning his attention to you straight away.

You shook your head, tears still streaming down your face.

Roger helped you up to your feet and wrapped his arms around you, not knowing if that would be something you'd want but when you clutched onto him as though he was your life force, he knew he had made the right decision. You clung onto him until your shivering started to become uncontrolled and he knew he could no longer just comfort you unless he was willing to let you succumb to hypothermia.

"Here," he said, taking off his jacket.

Your body was shaking too uncontrollably from fear and cold to put it on, so you allowed him to wrap it around you and zip it up to try and help you.

"I want to go home," you whispered.

He nodded his head. "Are you hurt?"

You went to shake your head, but you weren't actually sure, the alcohol was still strong within you and the cold and fear had helped completely numb you.

Seeing your confusion, Roger did his best to look over you in the dim lighting and was able to see the blood on the back of your head from hitting into the wall.

"We are going to have to take you to the hospital but then we can get you home," he assured you.

You continued to shake as Roger wrapped his arm around you again to make sure that you felt some sense of safety. He led you back out into the light of the street and flagged down the next taxi that passed. You let him help you into the back of the car before walking around to get in the other side. The sound of the car door closing made you jump, your hand jutting out to clamp hold of Roger's. He gave it a gentle squeeze.

"It's all going to be okay," he smiled softly. "Everything is going to be okay."

The taxi started and although you felt everything and nothing at once, you could only hope that he was telling you the truth as there was nothing else that you would be able to cope with believing.
