"Screams. Cries of agony and pure pain. The clinks of swords and thuds of cannons.
War had been waged, and some were caught in it. The madness, the despair, even the adrenaline was a drug that kept it going. Some were taken away, some were already killed, or else heavily wounded.
No one was safe from this plague.
Bloodlust and fear stained the minds and souls of the soldiers, as well as those of some pirates. But one group of pirates, The Renegades, as they were called, fought with hope, determination, and justice. Even though they were described as rebellious outcasts and traitors from their homelands, they all showed respect and love for one another.
Even when this war attempted to tear them apart, they only came together more.
This was the story told to all tribes and species. Some like ours--"
"This is just boring..." A girl interrupted. She had hazel eyes and brown, wavy hair that flowed with the water's gentle current. The story being told by the older, male siren, looked highly annoyed at her.
"My child," He said, "I know I may be repeating this story to you, but it is essential for you to know it, so you may speak to the future generation about it!"
"But it's so repetitive." She responded with a small yawn, before jolting up. "Can you tell me a story about Terpeople, Chief? Pleeeeease?!" She pleaded.
"I'm sorry," The Chief responded "but you know I have prohibited that kind of story-telling for all merpeople in our tribe." "But--" "That is all." He said sternly "You are dismissed." The girl had a pissed look on her face as she swam out of the room.
Her blue, fragile fins waved back and forth in the water, as fine as lace. Her eyebrows furrowed in frustration that she could never hear about Terpeople. It was common that they would throw fishing hooks and anchors into the area, and they were alright with it. It was a natural part of their ecosystem after all.
But the idea of toying with them just made her more angry. 'What do they get out if it? Why do they enjoy it?' She always thought when she was forced to practice her voice, since she didn't like using it.
She looked up, seeing the sun glimmering through the thin layer that distinguished the land of Merpeople and Terpeople, (more commonly known as humans). She looked around to make sure no one was around, and sighed in relief.
(I know it was used a hell lot on tiktok, but just roll with it please)
Her voice was soft and calm, hitting each not with perfection. She never sang in public, so everyone called her defective. She didn't mind, nor cared for that matter, unless it resulted in physical damage from everyone else. So she did her best to fit in.
She had no name, she was just called "Defect" or "Miss". Again, she did not care about what they called her. She just had a purpose to fulfill, destined by the gods.
"Wow, not bad Defect." She heard a male voice say. Of course it was Asher, the strongest and most physical one in the tribe. Everyone said and hoped that the Gods would choose him as the next Chief. But only she knew what layed under that layer of deceit. A reckless and sadistic traitor.
"Pretty ironic, coming from you Asher." She spoke under her breath.
"Excuse me?" He teased. "Sorry Defect, but no one will respect you if you mutter everything." He Teased again.
"I said--IT'S PRETTY F*CKING IRONIC COMING FROM YOU ASHER!!!" She yelled.
Asher looked seriously mad, and charged for her. She felt fear, but didn't regret her words. She braced herself, not knowing what would happen next. She opened her eyes, and was face to face with him. A sadistic smirk crept on his face, as if he suddenly switched personalities.
"You know, you're so valuable~" He said in a teasing tone. "It'd be a shame if someone took you off the trophy shelf~ Isn't that right~?"
Then it hit her. The stories, the practice, the bullying. It was all because they knew. She was so naive about it. She was so blind by the belittling of everyone else that she forgot who she was.
The heir of the Violet Scale Siren Tribe.
