♥Chapter 20: Elsewhere ♥
A/N: Hinting at some of Frisk's backstory/past here... see if you can catch the hints ;3 Enjoy!
Look at how far we've come. From cracking bad jokes to taking out the bad guys together. How romantic. I sighed.
It was all over, this was finally the ultimate. We can both go home now. Maybe have a big shindig together, eat bad food and tell equally as bad puns. We finally got our happy ending. Now we go have our happily ever after, right? That's how it goes?
G laces his hand into mine, snapping me back to reality. I look into his eyes, as he softly smiles down at me.
"We've reached it G, we finally got it, everything we ever wanted. We're going to be free," I grinned, newfound hope doubling my energy.
"Sweetheart," he paused, tipping my chin up to meet his face, "Everything I ever wanted is stand right in front of me." He smiled. I knew he meant it.
I sighed, "I love you so much," I rested my head on his chest.
"I love ya more, Frisk," he embraced me, smile quivering, looking down at me. He sighed, before continuing, "Wow. I swear, dove, every time I look at you, I think I fall a little more in love."
I giggled, face flushing a little, reminding me of the old days, when he used to make me get all red-faced like this. Awh, G. I squeezed his hand, "Shall we?"
He nodded, eyes gleaming with curiosity, and stepped through the breach.
Light flooded my vision, causing me to rub my eyes furiously so that I could see. We appeared to be standing on the sidewalk of a big, bustling city, cars droning through the streets around us.
Some civilians walked by us, too busied with their phones to give us so much as a sideways glance, while others kept their distance, eyeing our outfits rudely. I guess I couldn't blame them, though.
One girl in a ruined, muddied, frilly scarlet dress holding hands with a skeleton fashioning a lopsided tie, torn tux, and sopping wet shoes must have looked completely insane to them, but in reality, we were probably the happiest people in the world right now.
G pointed up at a sign plastered on one of the many tall grey buildings surrounding us, which read: Welcome to White Ridge. I gasped. This must be the richer community G was talking about before.
"We've got to get out of here before someone spots us. There's probably security cameras watching us everywhere," I told him, remembering that the government was probably practically hunting us down by now. They've probably got the image of us hung up all over town, with the caption RENEGADES plastered across it. I froze up, at the image of going back to Accreton, my old community.
If they caught us, maybe they wouldn't even offer us the option to go back, maybe they'd just kill us on sight, put us in a jail or worse: we'd be separated, or-
"I knew this was going to happen, don't worry, doll. I've got a place that we can stay. It's far away from here, and the people there will be willing to help us. It's a little town where runaways go. I'll explain more when we get there. I can't teleport us until I have enough energy, though. So maybe we could grab a quick bite to replenish our batteries?" G told me, thankfully interrupting my train of thoughts.
"I'd love to," I told him as he led me down the block.
"Wait, actually," he paused, thinking, "I think we should grab a change of clothes, since, ya know, we're not exactly blending in with our outfits," he told me, leading me towards a shop, as people brushed past us with little thought, too occupied with their phones to look up. They were all dressed in a similar fashion, colors consisting of black, white, and some variations of light brown and grey. It was very modern and slightly unnerving in my eyes, but I didn't mind it.
"But we don't have anything to pay with," I asked.
He held up a small brown wallet, which contained some money.
"Where did you get that?" I asked, curiously.
"I have my ways," he said winking. I figured he had taken it from Asgore or one of the guards during the escapade. What if that was Scarlet's? I dismissed my questions, quickly. We stepped inside the shop carefully. G put a finger to his lips, pointing at the cashier, who was currently snoozing off on the job. I sorted through the racks of clothes until I found something I liked.
Picking up my selection of clothes, I head to the bathroom and slip into my new clothes. Looking at myself in the mirror I realize that my hair hadn't held up throughout our peril. I quickly took down my hair, letting it cascade down my shoulders. I combed my fingers through my hair, hoping to make myself as presentable as I could given the current circumstances. I had decided on a cute black and white striped off the shoulder crop top, grey jean shorts, and lastly black boots to pull the look together. I decided against putting my hair up, wrapping my hair band around my wrist for later.
I come out of the changing room to see G waiting outside. He had picked out a white bomber jacket, similar to the one he wore in Accreton, which also had a light brown fluffy hood. He also wore a grey shirt underneath, and jeans. He also wore boots similar to mine, except his were lined with fluff and were white. Our clothes gave off a strangely modern and robotic look. I wondered if this was a normal style for the citizens here.
He flipped his hood, telling me that maybe I should pick up a hoodie to cover my face in case someone tries to find us. I nodded and picked out a white leather jacket, flipping its hood over my head. He tossed me a pair of reflective aviators, as well as taking some for himself. He slapped some money on the cashier's desk carefully.
We strode outside, stopping briefly at a nearby coffee shop. Its name was Cubicle 427. Strange.
Looking around, I realized that many of the other shops in the area were styled in creative ways as well. I guessed it was a marketing technique or something.
Cubicle 427 was an office styled shop, except the sitting behind certain desks, were robots who served coffee and other foods. Instead of tables, there were smaller cubicles for eating in, with fake computers and all. Cute?
G ordered a coffee from the robot, and I bought the same, with an additional snack. Sitting down behind one of the spare desks, I munched on the small snack I had bought from the store with him.
"So, what's it like in the town we're going to?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"Hmm, well," he thought for a minute, "Its pretty cold there since it's a bit further up north. It's a pretty small place, everyone pretty much knows each other. I'm sure we can find a job and a place to stay, as they're usually pretty kind," he offered.
"Yeah, that sounds great. Sounds like the place for me," I grinned, hoping this would be the first step to starting a new, better life and redeeming myself.
"I don't know that many people from there since the population has most likely grown since the last time I was there," he sipped his coffee. I wanted to ask him how he ended up in Accreton, and why he left the town, but I figured it would be best not to ruin the moment. I took a last swig from my cup before getting up to throw my things away with G.
"So, I think I'm feeling up to teleporting now," he hinted, extending his hand to mine, "Shall we?"
I took his hand, "Let's do it!" I was eager to teleport to the village and discover what it holds.
Suddenly I felt that familiar lightheaded feeling that came with using his magic, and almost instantly we were hit with a squall of cold air. I wrapped my leather jacket around me, wishing I had worn warmer clothing.
In the distance were lights of different colors, red, green and white. I could hear faint happy music playing in the distance softly.
It seemed vaguely familiar.
I laced my cold fingers through G's. I froze. His hand was warm. "How a-are you doing that," I asked him in awe.
"Doin' what, sweetheart?" he chuckled.
"How is your hand warm? It's f-freezing out!" I shivered.
"Magic," he did jazz hands, before realizing that I actually meant that I was freezing my face off. He wrapped his jacket around me, pulling the hood up to keep my ears warm.
"Thanks," I managed to say through the flurries of wind as he led me towards the warm lights. I squinted through the white winds blocking my view.
Finally, after trudging through the snow, two wooden cabins came into view, along with the outline of some townspeople. There were all kinds of monsters, but one really stood out to me: a goat monster. They seemed familiar. Strange.
I heard the low sound of people chattering to each other about their day. I was severely underdressed for this place, my legs beginning to numb, one townsperson noticed my dilemma.
"Oh, my!" she came up to me, leaving the person she was previously talking to, "Come with me, I can help you two. Come now, before the girl catches a cold!" she led me through the town, blurred red and green lights glowing as we rushed through the town. She stopped in front of a small cottage, opening the door for me and telling me to lay down on the couch. She rushed off into a room, telling me that she is getting a blanket. G sat by my feet as we waited for the poor lady to come back. I felt bad to be causing her all this trouble.
After coming back with a white fluffy blanket, she lied it over me and sat on the couch opposite of us.
"My, you two look like you've come a long way," she glanced at me with concern, my legs now far from numb.
"You've got that right," G chuckled, "Thanks for helping us."
"Well, would you like some hot chocolate or something to warm up after your journey, dear?" she offered us, picking up two cups filled with the sweet drink, which we gratefully took.
"Thanks so much," I thanked her.
"Of course," she replied, smiling almost as a mother would at their child, "I am June Shield," she told us grinning softly.
"I'm G"
"My name's Frisk."
"Nice to meet you two," she continued, before taking a sip from her hot chocolate, "So if you don't mind me asking, what are you two doing out on the day before Christmas Eve?"
"Christmas Eve?" I asked, confused.
"Oh my, you don't know what that is, do you?" We shook our heads. "Hm. Well, a brief explanation would be that it's a wonderful holiday where you exchange presents to your loved ones, friends and family. You decorate a tree with red and green lights and ornaments, which have separate meanings, but you will learn that later. You leave the gifts under the tree on Christmas Eve, and the next day, you open them. Christmas Eve means the day before Christmas," she elaborated.
"That sounds amazing," I replied, eyes wide with fascination. G nodded his head in agreement.
"Well," she sighed, looking at her watch, "It is pretty late. If you two would like, you can stay the night?" she offered.
"Thanks so much, that would actually be great," I said, nodding.
She got G a blanket before heading down the hall, "I'll be in my room, if you two need anything, don't hesitate to ask," she smiled warmly, before heading into a room.
Once the door was shut G turned to me with a joking smile, "So," he propped himself up on his elbows, "We gonna finally sleep together or what?" he jeered, raising his eyebrows up and down.
I pushed him away, groaning, "G!"
"Okay, okay fine," he laughed and flopped on the other couch, bringing his blanket with him. I kicked off my boots and got settled in, cuddling the blanket close.
"Good night, G," I sighed, eyelids growing heavy as he stretched out to briefly plant a goodnight kiss on my forehead.
"'Night, sweetheart."
