THE AUTOMATIC DOOR OPENED and the bright lights of the store hit our faces. My eyes quickly scanned the ceiling at the cameras and then to the loud group of teenagers by the coolers. The cashier had an intense gaze on the teenagers and wasn't bothered as I walked in with Hunter beside me. We nonchalantly strolled into the small convenience store with my hands shoved in the pockets of my grey hoodie. I pulled the hood over my head and so did Hunter, careful to block my face from the cameras. The atmosphere was thick and there was always the stress to get everything right.

The teenagers on the other side of the store were obnoxious and all attention was kept to them as Hunter followed me closely, swiping a few things from the shelves as we walked closer to the back of the gas station. I pulled the backpack off my bag and glanced to the front of the store, Hunter blocking the cashier's view of me.

"Stay right there," I muttered to him and he casually nodded. Quickly tucking a strand of black hair behind my ear, I shoved two loaves of bread in my bag along with peanut butter and Nutella. Baked beans and some tuna. Hunter was mostly in charge of chocolate and lollies. I quickly zipped up my bag and straightened myself as if nothing had happened.

"Come on H." I simply said as I trailed past a few more aisles grabbing toothbrushes and tampons along the way. I looked over to the group of teenagers by the coolers and I shot Chantelle a small signal of a nod. The group migrated to the counter as the man standing there already had seemed to have had enough of them. He kept a straight, bored face while he proceeds to ask the girl what she would like. I looked back at Hunter who was slipping toothpaste and batteries down his pants.

"How do ya'll not have cinnamon buns? These shitty-ass gas stations have everything but you don't got me some damn cinnamon buns?" Chantelle yelled obnoxiously at the cashier.

I looked at Hunter and we began to whisper the count down from ten as he held an unlit firework in his hand. I glanced back to the group as they all kept the back of there heads to us. My stomach turned with each number getting lower and lower. I handed Hunter a lighter and his thumb sparked the fire quickly lighting the end of the stick and throwing it into a large fridge of milk and shutting the door quietly.

We had about five seconds to get as close to the front of the store we could. We ducked down until we reached the other side of the store, I pushed Hunters back to hurry him in a panic. We soon stood up, I shoved my hands in my pockets and walked casually towards the exit.

Suddenly the sound a large explosion rocked my ears, my body flinched backward. I looked over to the transparent fridge and saw the inside filling with grey smoke as the door slammed open with every explosion inside becoming louder. In a hurry, the group of teenagers sprinted from the front desk and my feet jumped to get to the door at the same time as them. We squeezed through the automatic doorway and my feet hit the concrete outside the doors, we shoved each other to scramble away from the crime scene.

Hunter grabbed my arm in the sprint pulling me with him as we all scattered in the darkness outside. Hunter and I ran past the gas pumps and a few people staring in shock, jumped over the small hedge and ran across the empty road following the group. My chest grew tight and my throat burned with the rush of running. Adrenaline pumped through my body, my breathing rapid. Hunter's hand detached from my arm as we had already run a few streets down from the gas station and we stopped at our group who were all standing in the gutter of quiet suburbia.

We walked up to the bellowing group who were all cheering each other. Milo walked up to me with a huge triumphant smile as he gave me a fist bump followed by him making explosion noises with his mouth.

"Woo! That was amazing what a fuckin rush man!" He yelled with the same amount of energy as the rest while I laughed along. I pulled the two loaves of bed outta my bag and showed them off to the group.

"Ah! We gonna be eaten good tonight," Chantelle smiled. I grinned at my group that I would refer to more as family. I looked towards my real family, Hunter, my brother. He seemed just as happy and wild as the rest of us. It was very late at night and the cold air rubbed my cheeks harshly, in attempts to warm up I wrapped my arms over my torso.

"Hey, we should probably head back now," Monty spoke up calming the group slightly as he noticed how cold I was. "You're such a party pooper Monty, this is why no one likes you," Milo responded.

"I am kiddin' buddy I love you." Milo chuckles pulling Monty into a headlock and ruffling his head of curls.

I suddenly heard the familiar sound of sirens and my entire group had suddenly broke into a sprint. Hunter grabbing me roughly and dragging me with his force. I didn't look back but I knew no one was behind us anymore.
