INSIDE THE HOUSE WAS extremely chaotic so I just quickly got ready and sat outside on the front steps waiting to be driven to school. I looked down at my feet and tapped my doc martens on the concrete, my hands were numbed with the cold.
I heard the door behind me open and close. Someone was soon seated beside me as I glanced over to see Billy sitting beside me. I turned my head back to the ground waiting for him to speak.
"You can stay here. You don't have to run anymore." He simply states. My eyebrows furrowed together as I sat up and looked at him. "I don't belong here, Hunter and I don't belong anywhere."
"You can't just run away because you started to like us." Billy points out. He wasn't wrong, I was afraid I'd grow close to these people just to be taken away from them again.
"Well I can," I say coldly. The door suddenly swung open, Darla and Eugene ran past Billy and I on the stairs. "Just give us a chance," He said before he stood up and walked towards the truck. Two legs appeared beside me as I looked up and saw my brother looking down at me.
"You alright?" He asked. I nodded in response as I stood up, I glanced behind me and saw Freddy limping out the door with Rosa and Victor standing in the door frame. Freddy offered me a small tug at the lips before his eyes quickly moved to Billy.
"Hey! I call shotgun!" He yelled to the kids waiting for the truck to be unlocked.
Once we arrived at school Hunter and Billy stood on either side of me, Freddy standing beside Billy. We all stared at the building, students swarming around it as bees would to a hive.
"We will take you to the principal's office," Billy says as he walked up to the stairs. I exhaled sharply before following him. The principal was a male by the name of Mr. Hancock. I can't imagine was the students put him through. He was nice and well mannered, Hunter was partnered with Pedro to show him around as I was stuck with the two boys. My brother was a year above me so we wouldn't be having any classes together.
Freddy, Billy, and Pedro were all out the front of the principal's office when Hunter and I walked out the door with our time tables in hand. Hunter looked straight at Billy and Freddy with hateful eyes.
"You hurt her, you're dead. You let anyone else hurt her, you're dead." He speaks firmly. "Lay off dickward and it's school I am not gonna get stabbed," I spoke back at my older brother with attitude.
"Ehhhh," Freddy says really high pitched suggesting it would likely to get stabbed here. Everyone glared at him. "Okay I'll be quiet now," He spoke softly and quickly. The bell rang and we were separated into our two groups.
"Alright let's see what you have today," Billy says taking the slip of paper from my hands. "Oh sweet you've got English with us," Freddy points out.
I walked into the classroom and went to the back corner, Freddy and Billy sitting together in front of me. I slumped back in my chair as both the boys turned around, as soon as Freddy was about to open his mouth to say something a brunette girl came over and slammed her bag on the desk beside me.
"This is my seat," She spoke aggressively. I looked up at her, a frown on my face but I soon raised my eyebrows. "Well not anymore," I snapped back.
"You better fucking move," She said in a bitchy tone, at this point the entire class was staring at us two. I stood up from my seat suddenly, the chair scraping the floor behind me. I got closer to her, my face inches from hers as my nostrils fumed with anger.
"Back off slut," I spat shoving her shoulder backward. She looked at me with pure shock before she had the chance to retaliate Freddy stepped between us two.
"Okay ladies I think that's enough for today," He states. "Shows over go home," he added. I looked at Freddy with a frown. "Bitch," The brunette muttered before picking up her bag and storming to the other side of the classroom.
"What the fuck did you say to me? The fuck you say? Come say it to my face!" I started yelling at her and throwing my arms around. Freddy grabbed my shoulder, pulling my arms down as I snapped my head toward him.
"What what did I say about you touching me?" I spat pulling my arm away from him. He sighed with frustration. "Just calm down Bonnie you've barely been here twenty minutes you don't have to go cursing out the most popular girl in school," He whispers to me. I nodded slowly, calming down as he goes to sit back in his seat. The whole class was still staring at me with wide eyes.
"Haven't ya'll got anything better to look at?" I stated before I sat back down in my seat. The teacher quickly entered the room, at a hurried pace.
"Sorry I am late guys. Ms. Elm is away today so I am filling in," She spoke in a soft and kind manner. "Great a substitute. She isn't gonna last five minutes," Freddy whispered to Billy. I watched her quickly unpack her things. She grabbed a whiteboard marker and turned to the class.
"Is anyone here colourblind to certain colours?" She questioned brightly. "Yeah, your mum!" Some boy at the back of the classroom, he looked over to me and winked. I narrowed my eyes on the boy with long curly hair and dark clothes, he wasn't ugly that's for sure. I looked back to the front of the classroom.
"I will take that as a no then," She answered. "If someone was colour blind couldn't they just change the settings in their eyes?" Some boy states. Another boy dressed in dark stood up and begun walking around the classroom.
"Can you please sit down?" The teacher questions the boy who was now walking towards her. He completely ignored her and began fishing through draws in the teacher's desk.
"Hey what are you doing? Get out of it!" The teacher exclaimed rushing over to him. "What's your name?" She added. "Bob," He snarkily replied. He had gotten a tennis ball from the draw and glanced to the back of the room.
"Yo Jace!" He yelled to not so ugly boy who sat across from me. "Go long!" He bellowed before a tennis ball came hurtling towards me, this kid had horrible aim. But before the ball hit me, Jace had rushed over and caught it with one hand. His muscled arm extended in front of me.
"You're welcome new girl," He winked before throwing the ball to another one of his friends. "Douche," Freddy scowled. "Boys!" The teacher yelled but was ignored as conversations erupted over the classroom with new things being thrown around.
Billy turned around in his chair with Freddy following his actions. "How ya doing?" Billy chuckles at the wild children around us.
"Its definitely school," I nodded looking around the classroom. "I can't believe you did that to Bethany Cowley," Freddy says looking at me as if he was impressed. "So what she's popular? That shit means nothing to me if she is gonna be a bitch I'll kick the shit outta her."
"And we will be here to make sure you don't get suspended," Billy says. "Being suspended is great, you get in trouble at school for doing fun shit and then you get to go home and do fun shit." I chuckled slightly at myself.
"Sounds like a dream," Freddy sarcastically remarks. "Hey show us your schedule," He adds. I slid the piece of paper across my desk and Freddy grabs it, examining the content.
"Well you got math with me next and basically just a bunch of classes with us but you don't have anyone in history," Freddy frowned handing the paper back to me.
"Eh I'll make friends," I say looking over to the boys who were terrorizing the teacher, I focused on Jace.
"Oh no Bonnie you do not wanna be friends with that guy," Billy spoke sending a hateful gaze at the boy. "Yeah, he's the biggest assbag in the school. The only people he is nice to are people he would 'dem cool enough' and obviously we don't make that cut." Freddy adds.
"No Freddy you don't make that cut," I said rudely. "Hm okay that stung a little," He chuckled slightly looking over to Billy. Both boys turned around and I sat in the classroom and waited for the bell.
Students piled out of the classroom, Freddy struggling to stay up straight as he was shoved heavily. I grabbed his arm and pulled him up straight and told a few people to back the fuck up.
"Thanks," Freddy says as I let go of him and he stood up straight limping down the hallway. I ignored him and continued walking.
"Hey!" Freddy called to me, I turned around and I could barely see him in the crowd of swarming students. "Where are you going? Math is this way?" He yelled over the crowd pointing behind him.
"I am not going, see you at recess!" I yelled back before I turned my back to him, I was soon lost in the sea of people. All period I sat in the bathroom and played on my phone. When I heard the bell I waited in the bathroom for a while so the cafeteria would be settled by the time I got there.
I stood at the sink washing my hands, a group of laughing girls entered the bathroom one of the girls just happened to be Bethany. I looked at her in the mirror as she whispered to her friends, I angrily ripped some paper towel from the dispenser and turned to face her.
"I swear to fucking god if you don't leave me alone I will bash the shit out of you," I threatened getting closer to her. She stayed silent along with her friends, I threw the paper towel in the bin and left the bathroom.
I stared down the end of the hall at some double doors that were wide open. The hallways were littered with a few people as I walked past them, my fingers wrapped in my bag straps. I walked into the cafeteria, the entire area filled with conversation and life.
I looked over to a table and saw Billy sitting by himself on a table, he looked over to me and gave me a small wave. I was soon standing at the table, two trays of food but only one boy sitting at the table.
"Where is Fred-dick?" I questioned dumping my bag on the floor. "Not sure, he went to get another juice a while ago," Billy replied. I nodded slowly and walked past all the tables and over to the food trays. I joined onto the short food line, I looked around the area taking it in. I saw something fall in the corner of my eye, my head snapping in the direction of a doorway. A crutch was laying on the floor between the open door. I frowned and left the food line going to investigate.
I looked down the doorway of an empty hallway, Freddy was pushed against some lockers with two boys taking turns either hitting him or taunting him. Freddy had a pained expression on his face as he tried to hold his stomach in pain but he was pinned. "Hey!" I yelled at the pair. All heads whipped to me, Freddy seemed to be relieved to see me.
"Who are you?" One boy frowned. "Someone that's gonna beat your ass if you don't let him go," I stated walking closer to the boys, picking up Freddy's crutch that had been thrown along the way. Both boys just laughed at me and turned their attention back to Freddy.
"Need your giRLfRieNd to stand up for you? Huh, Freeman?" One boy mocked getting into his face. I leaned Freddy's crutch against some lockers and threw my fist into the boys face as had as I could. He let go of Freddy and he fell down onto the ground, the boy I had punched held his jaw in pain. They soon ran down the hallway and out of sight.
I looked down at Freddy who had crawled up in a ball on the floor, squeezing his eyes shut. I knelt down to his level and pushed his arm.
"Freddy," I said causing him to open his eyes. "It's okay those dickheads are gone."
Freddy looked up at me with sad eyes as I grabbed onto his hand pulling him to his feet and passing him his crutch. "Thanks... again," He says gratefully giving me a nod. He pushed his curls out of his eyes and inhaled sharply.
"It's cool," I say shrugging off his thanks and starting to walk off before Freddy grabbed my arm. I looked down at where his hand held onto my forearm, I didn't pull away from his touch I just looked up at him.
"Seriously Bonnie, thank you." He says looking at me straight in the eyes. I pursed my lips and nodded before he let go of me and I walked out of the empty hallway and back into the food line as nothing had happened.
