'𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐀𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐒 𝐆𝐀𝐊𝐔𝐒𝐇𝐔 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑, 𝐇𝐈𝐒 household has always been a classroom.' a background voice narrated while the scene changed to gakushu eating breakfast on the opposite side of the principal while a few maids could be seen walking around while carrying folded clothes, clean blankets, and cleaning up some dishes at the sink. anything particularly related to doing housework in the background.'with his father as the teacher and gakushu as his student.'
the scene shifted to gakushu walking from home to school while the principal drove away. 'and when there wasn't anything particular to teach gakushu, they never held any conversation.'
the principal was sitting in the back seat of a black car as he looked out of the window. "ah, stop for a moment, please," he told his driver.
"yes sir." the old driver said, pulling the car up next to the park where a shabby-looking young man was hunched on the park bench.
"hello there!" the principal greeted him pleasantly as he walked over. "good to see you're as well as ever." he stopped in front of him and reached into his pocket to take out his wallet. "this town, though... change is in the air. i can feel it. at times like this, i still stand to make a good sum of money...." he opened his wallet and threw a heap of cash on the ground. "....so here's some pocket change for you, too."
the man fell to his knees and desperately grabbed the cash.
"go ahead and blow it all on your favourite game that you called : gambling; that's the only way you can feel the joy of being alive-" the principal said cheerfully. his expression grew more disturbing as he looked down at the man. "after all, i am the one who taught you not to be happy any other way..."
the scene shifted to the chairman's office, where karasuma and his subordinate, sonokawa, who's also a member of the japanese ministry of defence, were facing him.
"just a moment, here..." sonokawa stammered. "could you repeat that, please !?"
gakuho smiled thinly, leaning back in his chair. "i'll need another billion," he told them casually.
"we're approaching the climax of the assassinations, yes? who knows what could happen. i must consider the risks to my students..." a scene showed students running down a hall. ".....and it costs money to keep secrets." his smile grew. "long-time residents of this city will be able to tell that something big is happening." the screen, getting a close-up shot at his wine-coloured eyes glowing creepily. "you're moving ahead with some kind of major plans."
karasuma's eyes narrowed.
sonokawa was enraged. "but that doesn't mean you can just-"
"calm down, sonokawa," karasuma interrupted her calmly.
she looked at him desperately. "but how many times are we going to be shaken down for more hush money by him ?!" she argued. "at this rate, he'll ask us for even more than the bounty by the time march rolls around." tears rolled down her face. "that's, like, my yearly salary times at least a HUNDRED!"
karasuma grimaced. "remember, we're only using this school because he's graciously allowing us to."
she scowled, reluctantly keeping quiet.
the principal smiled. "i'll leave the bank transfers to you," he said pleasantly as he got up to leave his office. "i'm quite busy, so i'll be going now."
karasuma was sweating, glaring at the ground.'his perception is incredible; he can even pick up on the final assassination plans in progress here.' the principal walked down the hall. 'it takes an incredible man, to have the entire ministry of defence in the palm of his hand.'

as much as you often see gakushu interacting easily with every student he comes across in the main building and being the pride of the school, life at kunugigaoka junior high can be hard and stressful when living up to its reputation as one of the most prestigious private schools in tokyo, japan. even though gakushu wasn't shown to be too affected by the system that brainwashed their students, he is the only one who was able to break away from this stereotype by trying to rebel against it by putting up a face of benevolence and a charismatic smile.
( author : or at least he thinks he did, lol, ok buddy. )
soon the bell rang. it was the end of the day, and gakushu packed up his bag as the class slowly cleared out of the room. he was walking down the hallway to the school exit with the rest of the big five members: araki, ren, koyama, and seo. they were joking around and chatting, but gakushu half-heartedly listened to their conversations, his mind and thoughts completely elsewhere.
a part of gakushu thinks he was going a bit low towards the redhead for commenting about class-E and using it against him, but at the same time, seeing his rival getting a little worked up after he made a comment about class-E does spark some amusement within him. it just shows that a delinquent who's nothing but violent and rude seriously needs someone to put him in his place for once.
"ne, asano-kun." araki glanced over at gakushu, eating a bag of potato chips that he had secretly brought to school and accidentally leaving trail of crumps on the hallway.
"ah! araki, you bastard!" koyama shouted from behind, "stop leaving a mess on the floor!"
araki pretended as if he didn't hear him and continued to strolled forward like nothing had happened.
"hai ?" the strawberry-blonde-haired boy looked over his shoulder at araki as they walked.
"that little....." koyama gritted his teeth before sighing. "..it looks like this can't be helped." and with a click of his tongue, he threw his uniform aside as it flew in the air behind him, revealing a full-dress cleaning apron hidden underneath his sleeve. he adjusted a tengui bandana that wrapped around his head as he began hastily spraying one spot of the floor with disinfectant spray cleaner and trying to mop the entire surface clean with a cleaning cloth with inhuman speed while ren and seo oversaw him from behind. "die germs, die!" koyama yelled as he continued aggressively wiping each spot of the floor clean. "SHINEEE !"
"here it goes....he's doing it again." ren sighed, putting a hand on his hips.
seo huffed, smiling. "i guess it can't be helped for someone like him who's born as a clean freak."
the scene focused back on araki and gakushu, who was continuing their previous discussion.
"you've been quiet ever since you came back from the office. did something happen...?"
"ehhhh-?!" koyama immediately stopped his cleaning as he overheard them and turned to gakushu with a panicked look. "c-could it be maybe something related to the chairman ?!"
"oi, don't be rude!" hissed seo, giving koyama a karate elbow strike on the side of his abdomen.
"ugh!" koyama kneeled to the ground, grunting in pain. he grimaced as he wrapped his arm around his stomach, shooting a glare at the brunette, who brushed his hands with a huff. "itei ne..."
araki and ren watched the chaos from a couple feet away, sweat dropping, while gakushu ignored them and carried on walking.
"so...was it something bad?" asked the brunette who caught up to him while walking along side gakushu as he continued to dust his cheek with a make-up brush.
"hm?" gakushu raised a brow. "ah, īe, why would you think that?" he lied.
ren frowned, his gaze narrowing as he glanced at gakushu from his own reflection in the mini-compact mirror that was held up in his hand.
"speaking of which, akabane-san didn't seem to be in a good mood either," noted seo. "in fact, he becomes much scarier than usual. i wonder what pissed him off."
"or who pissed him off?" said araki, taking another piece of potato chips out of the packaging. "say, didn't he and the other class-E students study at the library during after-class hours? perhaps there was some conflict between these two again?" he murmured.
"i-it does seem so..." koyama muttered, recovering from punch as he walked forward with wobbly legs.
"you guys sure are terrible at whispering, you do know that i can still hear you loud and clear, right?" gakushu said, pinching between the bridge of his nose in irritation. "and please stop mention his name in front of me, especially right now since they only bring nothing but more headaches, and as i already stated, nothing has happened," he said, narrowing his eyes at them. "besides, why are you all so insistent on knowing anyway?"
the four of them simultaneously turned their heads towards their leader and glanced at him with unease.'ah, so something did happen.'
as they were walking near the entrances, seo suddenly exclaimed. "ah ! oh my friggety-frak !" the group paused and turned their heads to see him frantically searching for something inside his bag. "yabei ! i think i forgot my pokémon chatmander water bottle back inside the classroom!" he cried, pulling his hair out in distress. "hold up, i'm going back in to get it real quick! please wait for me, guys, and don't leave without me !"
the others stood as they watched their friend zoomed off back into the school hallway where they came from with an incredible speed.
"jeez, that guy really can't go one second without forgetting his stuff behind, can he ?" koyama commented.
ren sighed, striking another dramatic pose as he ran his fingers through his hair. "yare ~ yare~"
gakushu glanced at his watch. "sorry guys, i have something to do later on, so i'll take my leave first," he said as they were now standing at the front of the shoe locker.
"okay~ ja, mattane asano-kun." araki and the others waved, and gakushu nodded his head as they parted ways. ( translation : see you later, asano-kun. ) he walked out of the exit in quite a hurry after putting on his shoes, not wanting his father to wait, or else he'd get into a serious lecture again. seriously, that man was strict with everything.
once he's outside of the building , gakushu immediately sees the black vechile parked at the front of the school parking lot as he begins to walk towards the car and open the passenger's door seat. "sorry for the wait," he apologised once he sat behind the car seat and closed the car door.
as soon as he got in the car, the man took out a piece of paper from his bag and handed it to gakushu. it was the practise quiz that was given to him by his father to work on the night before.
"numbers 12, 16, and 19 are wrong," gakuho said while still facing the front of the car.
the younger asano's sharp, violet eyes widened and almost immediately dropped to his paper, desperately looking at those problems and scanning for mistakes.
"honestly, mr. asano," the scene shifted to the chairman, who twisted his neck and looked back at him demonically. "you certainly talk big for a whelp with a score like this." he said as he came close to gakushu's face, smiling unhingingly with glowing purple eyes. "do you seriously think you're going to win with this kind of performance?"
gakushu kept his head down as he was busy looking through the questions in the papers, and fuck does he look irritated, both with himself and his father. clearly, this man doesn't play favourites because the smugness behind his words cuts through gakushu's resolve so easily.
"keep studying and try to pay attention to lectures so you do not make such simple mistakes again." sr. asano turned back to the front as he glanced up, peering at the younger one through the rear view mirror.
the boy tried to act as if he seemingly pays no mind to the man infront of him, but in reality, it's clear he's angry and humiliated from the way he gritted his teeth and clutched the quiz paper, looking ready to snap as he knelt, trying-and pretty much failing-to keep his composure. from how he acted in class, it's really surprising to see him so unhinged like this. only this man is capable of such things by knowing which buttons to press.
"ah, that's right. i almost forgot." the chairman smiled benignly. "for finals, I have a plan, but don't worry; that doesn't mean our deal will be off." gakushu snapped out of his thought, narrowing his brows curiously. he wanted to make a comment on that, but he bit back his tongue when he could hear the smugness in his father's voice as he continued. "i do expect more from you if you want to make your deal work." he glanced over at his son. "am i clear?"
gakushu twitched, looking like he wanted to strangle him when he saw the smirk on the man's face. "crystal, chairman," he replied bitterly.
"excellent," the principal said, smiling pleasantly as the dark atmosphere from before slowly vanished behind him. "i'm truly looking forward to your final result."
gakushu silently stared out the window as the car began to move. he watched the sight of the parents happily interacting with their own kids from the window while he sat alone at the back of the car with darkness surrounding him, and once again his hand clenched into a fist as he felt like his wrist was suddenly tied to a string of familiar chains that he couldn't escape from.
'ah....sometimes i really, really hate my life.'
