Daily Doodle- Of Gods and Mortals (doodle dump and heavy worldbuilding)

Today, I was inspired (as I am as of late) to go back to some old characters and revise them. I also had some brilliant insight on a certain concept I don't know if I've explained here but it'll probably make more sense than all the one sentence blurbs I keep giving you guys about dragons and angels. I know it seems like a disjointed mess but in context it works far better.

So, shall we?

(WARNING: THIS WILL PROBABLY MAKE NO SENSE TO YOU UNLESS YOU READ A LOT OF MY WORKS, BUT FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS AND I'LL TRY TO GET YOU THROUGH IT ANYWAYS. THIS WILL ALSO BE MY UPDATE FOR TONIGHT SEEING AS... IT'S WAY OVER 2000 WORDS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE YOU ALL WANT FROM ME.)

I don't know if anyone remembers Pentri from the old Dreamland Drabbles book (what a mess) but she was originally one of my very, very first Dreamland OCs who I made at the age of four (yikes) and since I enjoy recycling I thought I'd try to make something of her last year. Since I've improved exponentially since then (I can give you all a link to the original picture I had of her in eighth grade but trust me... it's ugly) I thought I'd redesign her again, giving her basis in real dog breeds. I knew she had to be Merle and while I don't think it fits her perfectly (might come back to her) I also made her a Pointer.

Pentri is a strange case who lives roughly around the time of the sixty-third Princess  in the alpha timeline, which is the one you guys read about. She's a civilian artist, particularly a shiftsketcher, which is like a Dreamlandian cartoonist. They carefully imbue their magic into moving pictures which will be commissioned by cities and sent out to those who order it, often for high exchanges of resources or credit. After the Princess's death, she fights in the War of the Ascension (spoilers for Double Rainbow Retold and Revised!TCHF both but once I finish them there will be a LONG sketchdump describing what happens. Here's a hint- you already know who's stepping up if you've been reading this book ;)). Her breed is common in the city she lives in and is actually a cross with Painted Canira, although she has an anomaly that sets her apart at birth- her paint patches change regularly and quickly throughout the day. This is because her patterns are different in every dimension and because the worlds are constantly splitting, she changes as well. Since the spots will often shift violently upon major changes (when she's the version of herself who experiences that changed world) she's become a valuable asset in multiple dimensions. However, she doesn't want much to do with officials because in most worlds, she's also an undercover agent for the Delta Organization, which is basically what would happen if you crossed Anonymous with the Illuminati. She is strong-willed and doggedly (geddit) loyal, so in worlds she ends up crossing between dimensions she has in the past caused paradoxes by attempting to sabotage or even fight other versions of herself who she feels are making a mistake.

(In the alpha timeline she's currently working with Verde and the current leader of Dreamland, who again is a major spoiler but you know her already and if you've read the books (TCHF IS NO LONGER CANON AND WILL BE REVISED) you probably know who she is.
Wink.)

Pepper was another one of my older characters, but he's from the third grade (when Canira first became a thing). In the newest revisions of my canon, he's from the sixty-first Princess's time and was good friends with the Princess herself. The two often went on various escapades together but he was especially grateful for her as her special interest in drafting him into the Defenders saved him from a household that was far less than kind. One of his eyes was cut open during a mission, hence the bloody cloth (which covers the other side of his face as well). There are many, many stories of his kindness and bravery which makes him one of the humbler folk heroes, someone who never crossed worlds or battled dragons but instead just wanted to create a better world.

(Opinions on the fur shading? Took me forever :V)

Now for the angels.

(Taken from the Archives of the Halcyon Cluster, Private Collection owned by Rain of Lira City.)

Throughout time, the forces of light and darkness, good and evil, order and chaos, have been in constant and continuous struggle. However, there have always been two questions that remain of importance to those involved: who is fighting for these primal forces, and which side is which? At the core of this fight lies two forces who unlike dragons, Sentients, Obsidians, moderators, or any other beings, transcend world and origin. They fight for nothing and at times do not even recognize they are locked in conflict. Creatures of both sides could in theory appear in any dimension and the results they have on the multiverse as a whole are catastrophic.

These two 'forces' are known as angels and seraphs.

While in some worlds the loose translation of the terms may be two holy forces or perhaps two species not associated in any way, it is used in Dreamland to represent two classes of beings that both correspond to certain characteristics. Angels and seraphs are both very powerful and indeed, can often be hard to tell apart, but the basics are as follows:

Angels...

1) are always female or female presenting.

2) appear in worlds that should not exist (caused by paradoxes).

3) are unable to leave said worlds until  the paradox is fixed or resolved. Once this is solved they have abilities similar to seraphs in the world-travelling department and can only be killed by certain methods, generally a weak spot (such as the eyes).

4) often have physical deformities such as numerous wings, additional eyes, or hyperdontia (extra teeth).

5) are part of the system in the same way that dimensions and the elements/virtues (hope, love, etc.) are. They simply exist.

Seraphs...

1) always have six wings, generally fully formed (or otherwise must have the potential to appear fully formed).

2) can dimension travel naturally and can ignore basic laws of energy conservation and hence can move forwards and backwards at time at will without expending much energy.

3) can not be killed until the energy within them is destroyed. Can not kill themselves. Will regenerate over and over again. (For those of you about to ask how the Princess was killed- she regenerated. She can and will continue to do so and will not die for as long as she contains Verhamera's energy).

4) often have the power to create pocket worlds or radically change the course of dimensions to their own whims. A fallen seraph, such as the infamous Light, can create entire universes and appear as an innocent child just to play with the beings within until they break.

5) are created to protect a certain dimension and take on the forms of whatever host world they were intended to protect (for example, The Princess, one of the most famous seraphs, appears as a Canis).

6) are not part of the system. They are almost always created by an exterior force, generally some kind of omnipotent being.

For the purpose of this reading, we will be focusing on some famous angels (almost all of the known ones as of the time this is being written) and their intentions, origins, and potential weaknesses. As angels are something that may be beyond our understanding and may also be proof that the multiverse itself is a being, it is important that as much of their nature as possible is understood by Sentients... or we may risk extinction at their very whim.

Her, also known as the Fourth Pegasus, is one of the few angels to clearly be unaware they are one and as such possibly have no ill intent. While multiple versions of the same angels can occur across many worlds, there is only one instance of Her. She was created from a world where dragon and Sentient interference caused heavy rifts in the fabric of the world and was only identified posthumously as Cherry Blossom, who was murdered in the Obsidian Factory. Her powers are assumed to have been interdimensional travel and little more. Since the Obsidians were able to take her, the rift in the world must have been fixed before they took her. The Obsidians did not appear to know what she was as they relegated her to one of the starving rooms, however they did correctly guess her weak point when they killed her by burning her wings, and as such never found out that she was otherwise invulnerable and was created by a paradox. This was a very lucky break for all of their enemies, particularly us. One can only imagine what they could have done with the knowledge that such  beings.

Trinity or Two Streaks is an error caused by paradoxes where the incarnation of the values hope and determination exist in the same world but do not fall in love. For those of you unaware, hope and determination are two of the five virtues that govern both good behavior (naturally!) but also represent fundamental forces of the universe. Hope and determination together are two of the most powerful, general thought to govern energy and forces (determination) as well as all wavelengths of light (hope), and those gifted in the virtues are able to manipulate the above. More importantly, those blessed with extreme amounts of the hope and determination virtues (known as keepers) appear across dimensions and play out the same story across the multiverse- they are inexplicably drawn to each other, fall in love, and then one of them must die to complete the cycle. No one knows why this occurs or why the couple always seems destined to happen but it appears to be fundamental to the inner workings of our world.

Hence the angels.

Trinity, identified by the two streaks of white hair, generally appears normal in host worlds save for the aforementioned hair and seems to be a very kind being. However, she is only tangible when interacting with the keepers of hope and determination... so she's truly no more harmful than your average cross-dimensional matchmaker. The reason for her existence proves to be more vexing than any of her personal characteristics.

Ececerma is an angels who appears only in dimensions tampered with by those who have managed to escape the Dreamlandian afterlife. She appears as a shadowy opposite to the head of Marcecee, head of Those Still Dreaming (a subset of the Defenders who carry on duties after death and as such do not experience some of the... less pleasant parts of the afterlife). Rumors have spread that Marcecee herself committed some kind of paradox that created this being, while others claim that Ececerma is the version of Marcecee who came from the world where she was brutally murdered by Dark Rainbow during life. (Needless to say, regardless of world, the two do not get along in death.) If this theory is true, it is very likely that Ececerma would be killed the way that Marcecee was- a swift stroke or impalement through the gut.

One of the first reports of what would later become known as angels comes from Errorhandler or the Depths, a shadowy salamander-esque dragon with a horn similar to that of a narwhal's. Some other descriptions speak of a much bulkier physique. Dragons, especially those on more primal worlds, often spoke of this murderous creature caused by the intrusion of dragons from other dimensions. Due to how careless dragons are when they dimension travel, it is very likely that the Depths simply emerges anytime a dragon comes into contact with themselves from another dimension (causing the impossible circumstances needed for a new timeline with an angels) which proves for the billionth time that dragons are ruthless brutes who don't want to admit their actions have consequences.

The Depths has been killed many times, although no one knows why as no one is aware if the two same dragons no longer being in the same dimension heals the rift or not. Cutting off the horn will eliminate her immediately but the eyes will also pour oil if punctured, leaving the poor creature to stumble about in darkness until she is dealt with.

Glitch is a strange case who appears to have four wings and may even be some strange replication of a seraph. Her whiskers float off the side of her face and her whole body is often staticky and unreal in appearance. Eliminating these whiskers should quickly kill her and multiple Defender squads have had to go into the worlds she appears in and eliminate her before natives find her (as she rarely appears in worlds equipped to handle angels).

Glitch is often found in worlds where a child will mysteriously be born to barren parents or a child will suddenly cease to exist or when children are not born from a clearly pregnant mother in cases where she clearly could have come to term otherwise. It is thought that she may be the result of children mysteriously being moved about the multiverse, or that she may be a remnant of the souls that will never be.

Axiom is an angels found only and exclusively in Dreamland. While she has appeared in some timelines, including the alpha (where her weakness was guessed by complete accident by plague doctors), her presence is actually quite rare. In some timelines, she is the child of a single father known as Enigma (currently dead) who finds her by accident and only later finds they share DNA, despite him never having a mate. In other worlds she is any and all potential children born of the Princess. The Princess is not only chaste but should also logically not be able to have children, as the fertility of seraphs has always been assumed to be non-existent.  As such she only exists in those worlds because all possible outcomes are real in some dimension and thus if something can be conceived it must occur, even if it causes a paradox (this is generally how angels come to be). She is always a Nyuhenge (possibly a cruel joke involving the proposed love of the Winter Princess). She has never been anything but a kind and loving daughter in any world, possibly even too perfect to the point of being unnaturally and revoltingly flawless.
Is she some kind of gift from Verhamera or a curse? Regardless, why is Enigma bought into this? Further research will undoubtedly be required.

T Vee, which is short for Atemporal Evisceration, is representative of the many stranger angels who generally follow the same patterns. Her weaknesses are her cords and television parts, however she has never been killed as she never exists outside her original dimension. Unlike many of the other angels on this list, who exist due to certain scenarios occurring, T Vee and other similar angels (who usually look similar, mimic other angels on this list, or are a giant and terrifying eldritch abomination) are created by worlds that should not exist or have contradictory qualities. For example, a Canis without their Verhamera Horns will immediately die because they contain almost all our magic, potential for sentience, and parts of our brain tissue. However, since all possibilities exist, there exist worlds where a Canis simply continues living because it can be conceived and therefore must happen in some world. T Vee and well over 99% of angels exist under similar scenarios. They are usually varying levels of cloying, vicious, and enigmatic little prats.

Solar or SOLAR is currently known as the second most dangerous angels and indeed, it is not completely clear whether she is an angels or not at all. Solar exists in worlds where a hope and determination couple (also referred to as a Luminous Cycle couple) live long happy lives with each other and those lives consequently produce children. They will only ever have one child and that one child will be Solar, who will appear similar to her parents (the form above is greatly different and will be explained later) and will simply wait. Eventually, usually not long after her birth, one of the parents will die, generally brutally, and then Solar is consequently free to wander the worlds as she is no longer bound by the paradox. Disturbing reports from a variant of Dark Rainbow from a world where she lived instead of Torch are one of the many that suggest that Solar will actually kill one of her parents if they do not die tragically within years of her death.

When she leaves her homeworld, she will take on the form seen above. Large parts of her form seem to be in reference to better known Luminous Cycle couples and at the core of her chest is a large pulsing forge that burns hot as a sun. It will kill anything close to it, meaning that only seraphs are able to stop a Solar. Multiple renegade seraphs, generally those whose worlds have been destroyed despite their struggles, make their pay off of bounty hunting because they still have that intense urge to protect and nourish a world that no longer exists and will channel their rage into pretending those they are hired to kill are those who have destroyed their dimension and all that they lived for. They are the most crucial fighters when taking down a Solar.

No one knows what Solar truly is, as she appears to maintain consciousness between incarnations and may not even be part of the system at all. It is believed that Solar may not even be an angels and instead is an incredibly dangerous being similar to a virus on the multiverse. Indeed, she may be trying to end or destroy the Luminous Cycle once and for all, both ending the torment of those trapped in it but also potentially ending the cycle of magical and emotional energy throughout the worlds (a proposed reason for the Luminous Cycle) and causing the destruction of magic that will be followed by a slow but steady heat death of all existing universes.

However, one of most important angels recognized to date and perhaps most dangerous is The Edifice. While there had been rumors of such creatures going as far back as the time under Amalia and rumors of The Depths have existed for as long as dragon society, The Edifice was the first creature to be labelled an angels and set the race to find, hunt down, study, or potentially kill the angels into action. She was discovered after the infamous Endarra City case, in which a cult known as the Cult of Angels (a group that was at the time infiltrated with Dreamland's first Fauna Defender, whose unsent reports found at their base showed signs of slow but steady encroaching insanity over the course of her work there) attempted a summoning described in dragon rituals. All involved or in the proximity of the summoning immediately seemed to have died (no breathing or movement) but their eyes were wide open and glowing gold. Using advanced Fauna techniques and some morally questionable time travelling the monarchy was able to find the basic shape of the figure they had summoned. The Edifice looks human but has large, spindly lines coming from her back that seem to be vestigial or barren wings. Further "reports" claim dark, straight hair and incredibly severe hyperdontia. While these are likely untrustworthy, they do line up with characteristics of better known angels and may be true.
However, no paradox has yet to be observed that creates The Edifice or anything similar. As such it is believed that The Edifice may be the result of a paradox behind the legendary Wall of Fire.

For those not familiar with basic interdimensional history, the Wall of Fire was a barrier put into place as a result of a pact with the dragons at the end of their war with our kind. The Wall of Fire was created by the void (through the dragon's supposed creator) and the powers of Verhamera herself (as harnessed by the Princess) as a means of protecting an especially vulnerable and volatile cluster of worlds from further interference by these great beasts. Not all worlds sporting human life were sealed and the past few thousand years have sported some... interesting ways to get around these predicaments, but for the most part it has sealed it from dragons, Sentients, other forces such as the Obsdians, and lessened the chance of something similar to this happening (as paradoxes can not occur without some violation of the laws of the universe, usually through magic).

Unlike any other Angels, The Edifice has no discernible weak points and all information points to her being basically invulnerable. If she truly is from behind the Wall of Fire and is a paradox caused without any interference in a world where magic is near completely null and void, where the primary forces of the rest of the multiverse are far weaker, then she may be something completely unlike anything seen before. The only way for her to die now that she is out in the multiverse is for her to take her own life, although even this may be impossible.

For the good of all worlds we must hope her intentions are indifferent or benevolent.

(thus ends the files.)
