I like to imagine Lilly's Pokemon form was like a Flaafy-Ampharos mix for a while until she fully "evolved" on the return to Johto but she didn't know about the in-between because she was a human. 
Also there's definitely AUs out there where Bronze goes back and Lilly stays. Neither of them live very long.
