"Does anyone have a camera?"
"Shhhhh! You'll wake them up!"
Voices surround me and I groan. It's too early to be awoken from my sleep! My pillow is extremely comfortable and warm. Wait, warm?
My eyes snap open. Eva, Jared, and Teresa are whispering to each other, smiles on their faces. My cheek is pressed against a bare shoulder, and a warm arm is wrapped around my waist. My heartbeat quickens as memories of last night come tumbling back.
We kissed. And, I liked it. A lot.
I like Cody, a lot.
My cheeks heat up as I gently remove his arm from around me, placing it beside him. The others are yet to notice me, too caught up in their own conversation. So, I attempt to sneak away, slowly placing one foot in front of the other.
"Hey, Autumn!"
I jump, spinning around to face three smirking faces.
"So, how'd you enjoy your sleep?" Jared teases, attempting to waggle his eyebrows. He ends up looking like he's having a seizure on his face, which causes me to giggle.
"Great. But I think Eva mistook me for you last night when she wrapped her arm around me," I nonchalantly reply.
Both of their cheeks heat up.
"Sorry Autumn, I didn't realize I did I did that," she laughs.
"Were you dreaming of me?" Jared jokes, slinging an arm across her shoulders.
"You wish," she smiles, yet doesn't move to dislodge his arm.
Teresa sips a glass of water, which looks like it's been reused quite a lot. Sunlight peeks through the sliding door, rays reflecting off the glass. Her golden hair sticks up in odd places, as do the other's. Her smile, however, could light up the room by itself. She might not talk a lot, but I can tell she's silently observing Jared and Eva's shameless flirting.
"Are they always like this?" She chuckles, taking a step towards me.
I nod, a smile tugging on my lips. "Basically. They used to bicker all the time, and now it's turned into flirting. Honestly, they're such a cute couple."
"As are you and your boyfriend," Teresa smiles, her dimples showing.
I glance at Cody, who somehow hasn't awoken. My cheeks are on fire as I watch the cute way his chest moves up and down, his tips turned up into a ghost of a smile. His light hair droops into his eyes, probably in need of a haircut. I'm pretty sure drool is dripping out of his mouth, but that's for me to address another time.
"We're not anything official yet," I admit, running a hand through my tangled locks.
"Yet," she quietly laughs, a knowing smirk plastered on her face. I notice an inflamed pimple on her forehead, as well as a tiny scar running beside it. I wonder how she got it. Maybe with The Others, I'm guessing?
"Alright!" Teresa calls. "It's breakfast time. We're having bread slices."
I grimace as she turns away from me. She's lived here for a while, so she's probably consumed the same thing for breakfast for so long. It can't even be toast, as there's no electricity. Then again, I think food is the least of her worries, and now ours as well. In this type of situation, we're lucky to eat at all.
The others head towards the cramped kitchen, leaving me to awaken Cody. For some reason, I feel nervous. What if he regrets the kiss? What if he admits he was lost in the moment and he doesn't like me that way?
Stop it, Autumn! Remember his pep talk last night? You need to think positive thoughts only!
I release a breath before kneeling next to him. My fingers wrap around his arms and I shake, attempting to awaken him. When he continues to slumber, I attempt punching him it the arm. Annoyed, I even lightly slap him across the face.
Nothing. This boy is going to sleep through our demise.
"Cody!" I shout, shaking him once again.
I let out a sigh, about to give up. Then, I grin, an idea formulating in my brain.
I walk into the kitchen, a smile on my face. The others pay me no mind as I grab Teresa's glass of water off the rotting counter. My fingers grip the warm glass as I walk back to Cody, barely able to contain my laughter. Well, it's not like it would wake him up, anyways.
The cup tilts to the side, a rush of water soaking Cody's hair. It drips down to his face, sprinting down his cheeks and onto his bare chest.
His hazel eyes snap open, fire blazing within them. As soon as his eyes latch onto mine, his glare softens.
"Autumn," he speaks in a warning tone.
"Finally, you woke up! My last resort was to throw the cup at you," I joke, taking a step back. "You're not angry, are you?"
"Angry?" He smirks, slowly rising to his feet. "Why on Earth would I be angry, Autumn?"
"I don't like that look," I mutter.
Next thing I know, his fingers are tickling my sides. Laughter pierces the air as I attempt to swat his hands away. I end up falling onto my butt, the glass still clasped in one hand while I battle Cody with the other.
Finally, he stops, a smirk resting on his visage. "Are you going to pour water on me again, Morales?"
I shrug, the smile never leaving my lips. He looks like a drowned puppy, his lips tilted upwards and water still dripping off the tips of his hair. He places his hands on his hips, attempting to seem intimidating. However, his silly grin gives him away.
"I don't know. Are you going to stop sleeping like you're in a coma?" I joke, hoisting myself to my feet.
It's his turn to shrug. "I don't know. I don't control that.
"As cute as you two are," Teresa interrupts, a piece of toast clutched in her hand, "it's time to eat."
"Okay," I laugh.
She quirks an eyebrow. "Why do you look like you had your head plunged in a toilet bowl?"
Cody feigns fear, pointing a finger in my direction. "S-she attacked me! With water!"
I roll my eyes, strolling towards the kitchen. "Yeah, and that monster tickled me. Where's my toast?"
I hear Cody laugh behind me, and Teresa makes a heart with her fingers. My own heart flutters. What is this boy doing to me?
