Y/N POV

???: You know, it's pretty funny that we both ended up in the same boat kid.

I'm somewhere. It's all white around me and I'm hearing a deep male voice.

Me: Who's there?! And what do you mean same boat?!

I hear a chuckle behind me. I turn to see nothing but white.

???: You'll know someday kid. But don't go screwing up the opportunity you have here. But for now I gotta go, take care kid.

I immediately sit up, sweaty and breathless. I look all around me and see I'm still on the dormitory roof.

Me: (Thoughts) What the hell was that?

It was just a dream. Nothing to worry about. Right?

I pick up my scroll and look at the time.

8:45 and classes start at 9:00 well I gotta get ready.

It takes me five minutes to get ready. But instead of wearing the school uniform normally. I have the jacket on my uniform unbuttoned, no blue vest and instead of the red tie, I replaced it with my blue one.

I also have my shoulder strap holster on with my piece inside. Never know when it'll come in handy.

Then I hear all sorts of shit happening right under me. It sounds a whole lot like.............

.........power tools?

I walk down stairs and end up at...well I shouldn't be surprised, RWBY's dorm.

I knock on the door and Ruby pops her head out.

Ruby: Oh! Hi Y/N!

She beams a smile at me and I can't help but smile back.

Me: Hey Red. Not to be nosy or anything, but what're you doing in there?

She swings the door open for me to see a couple of poorly made bunk beds.

Ruby: Decorating!

Me: I don't think those bunks are safe.

Ruby: Oh their fine.

I shrug and look at their weird decor.

Me: Well to each their own I guess...

Ruby: Whatever. Look we'll see you later at nine. alright?

Suddenly I hear the Schnee yell at her.

Weiss: Nine?! It's 8:55 you dolt!

I take that as my cue to bolt and run down stairs.

Tiny time skip

I'm in the courtyard now and I'm running past other late people.

I see a railing in front of me and I cat vault over it

I eventually make my way inside and kong vault over a table landing next to Ozpin and Goodwitch as look surprised but disregard it and continue to walk outside.

I finally make it to Professor Port's class as I dust myself off before heading inside.

When I walk in, I'm greeted by a plump man with a big mustache and brown clothes with gold accents.

Port: Ah! Mr. L/N! Good to see you!

Me: Likewise Professor Port.

I make my way to my seat as I see RWBY and JNPR burst through the door, falling on one another causing everyone including me to chuckle at their embarrassment.

They all take their seats with Ruby sitting next to me as Port starts his lecture.

I feel a tap on my shoulder and I turn to Ruby.

Ruby: How'd you get here so fast?

I give her a smirk and lean back in my chair.

Me: I have my ways...

She pouts at me and I pat her head as I refocus on Port.

But Port's lecture just sounds like a childhood memory so I tune it out and think instead.

What are the others doing now?

I know what B/N is doing but Chains said somethings about the military and Wolf said something about opening a club. But who know about that.

Then my thoughts move to that dream earlier.

What the hell was that?

Who was talking to me?

What did he mean "same boat"?

Before I could ponder further I feel another tap on my shoulder. I turn to see Ruby watching the news on her scroll.

Me: What is it Red?

She hands me an earbud and tells me to listen. When I put in the earbud, I immediately hear the words"Payday Gang". I start to listen intently.

Reporter: Recently in Atlas, no new robberies committed by the Payday Gang have been reported by police after the recent arrest of the member Houston. This has put Atlesians and all of Remnant at ease.

Reporter: But sources say that they could be laying low for the time being, even theorizing that they have disbanded, but the newly founded Atlas Bureau of Intervention, ABI, have not let their guard down. We now go to the lead specialist heading the Payday Gang branch.

The screen then cuts to Captain Winters as he's being interviewed.

Winters: We don't believe that the rest of the Payday Gang are actively plotting another heist but instead looking for another criminal to replace the recently captured Houston. We're prepared for their next possible heist if it may come. But recently we have received word that a few copycat groups have been active. Taking on the mask of the Payday Gang but we have no way of confirming the real group currently.

Interviewer: (Off-screen) What about the ABI? This is a very new organization that has just recently been revealed to the public after Houston's arrest.

Winters: The Atlas Bureau of Intervention was created because of the Payday Gang's reign of terror, but is now being utilized to stop other types of crime. The ABI is not just localized to Atlas. Instead we have many military and police personnel from all around Remnant training to counter dangerous individuals and organizations such as the White Fang or Roman Torchwick.

Interviewer: And why have you decided to head up the Payday Gang branch?

Winters: I volunteered for it but was also asked by General Ironwood to head it up. I was a military police officer before joining the ABI. And with the capture of Houston, it's a great victory for me, General Ironwood, and the entire ABI.

Interviewer: And could you possibly explain how the public will be able to contact the ABI if they need to do so?

Winters: If a person were to call local authorities and report a crime, if the crime is severe enough, they will be connected to a local ABI office instead of the local police.

Interviewer: That is all the time we have. Thank you Captain Winters and thank you for your service.

The interview ends and the news goes onto another topic. Leaving me shocked by what I just watched.

Ruby: A whole agency in Atlas to take down crime!? That's nuts!

Me: No wonder they were tougher than usual...

Ruby: Are the other members really going to replace you?

I lean my head back sighing.

Me: No, actually we made a pact that if anyone was killed or arrested we would cut our losses and go straight. I hope that's what their doing now.

She nods slowly as she takes in what I told her.

I wonder what's going to happen with the ABI around...

3rd POV

Port's lecture is nearing an end and Ruby is goofing around amusing you and her team except Weiss. Going from balancing a bunch of stuff on her finger to falling asleep then to not so subtly picking her nose.

Port finally finishes his damn story and ask who embodies a huntsman. Weiss raises her hand and Port squints at you a little disappointed at you.

Port: Well Ms. Schnee you may demonstrate, but Mr. L/N I would also appreciate that you would show your skills first.

You look up to see him as he gestures to the door.

Port: Would you kindly retrieve your weaponry and equipment?

You nod and walk out to grab your suit and gear. While you do this Yang and Ruby wait, intrigued that they'll see you in action more. With Ruby excited to see how well you do against Grimm instead of law enforcers.

You eventually walk back in, suit on, but without the medic bag and your Commando and to your dismay, your suit causes some people to murmur about it.

???: A suit?

???: Looks pretty cool.

Orange haired prick: He looks like a snob.

Weiss: Why does he wear a suit?

Port: Mr. L/N where is your weapon?

You grab your saber and give it a twirl unfolding it.

A/N: Imagine it's Corvo's saber from Dishonored.

You the toss it to your left hand and draw your piece.

Y/N: I'm ready Professor Port.

(Start song at top here)

Port nods as he swings his axe on the lock of one of two cages. Releasing a Boarbatusk. It charges straight at you as you fire a mag at it, but the rounds bounce off it's bony armor. Completely unfazed the Grimm continues its charge.

You toss up your saber, eject the magazine, and throw the empty mag at the Grimm stunning it.

You reload, catching your saber and start shooting it yet again. The reason you haven't charged it yet is because you aren't real experienced dealing with Grimm. But B/N always said it's best to kill them from a distance so you tend to follow that advice.

You hear the click of an empty mag and flick it away

(Took me a damn good while to find this XD)

You reload a third magazine into your piece, but unbeknownst to you it's your final magazine.

Orange haired prick: Fight it you wussy!

You growl at the student to see it's Cardin.

You then look to see Ruby waving erratically. When she notices you're looking at her, her eyes widen.

Ruby: Y/N! Look out!

You look forward to see the boarbatusk is charging right at you and you activate your semblance to avoid it.

You look back at Ruby to see that she's pointing at her stomach. Confused, you shake your head and ignore her. But when you look back at the Grimm, you see it doesn't have bony armor on it's stomach.

You fold your saber and holster it as you continue to fire at it until the mag is empty.

You grab around inside your suit to find no more spare mags and growl.

Y/N: Damnit!!!

The Grimm notices that you're out and charges at you. You instinctively throw your gun at the Grimm making it stumble.

You finally decide to charge, sliding in front of the Grimm and grabbing it by the tusk as it shoved you onto your back.

It constantly tries to bite at you. You free a hand as it goes into your suit and grabs your saber.

You unfold said saber and stab the Grimm multiple times, killing it.

As the Grimm dissolves you stand up panting and exhausted. There is some silence until you hear Port clapping.

Port: Amazing Mr. L/N! That was very resourceful! You adapted quite well to the situation you had, excellent work!

You thank him and return to your seat grabbing your piece on the way, too exhausted to change back to your uniform. Weiss stands and goes to leave the room passing you.

Cardin: (Whispering) What a amateur.

You turn back to Cardin and glare at him while he just laughs.

Ruby: You okay?

You look to Ruby and see the look of concern on her face.

Y/N: Other than being sore tomorrow? I'll be good Red.

Ruby nods and opens her mouth to say something but decides against it, but you notice and tell her to say something.

Ruby: Well...I wanted to ask. Why did you throw your gun at that Grimm?

Y/N: Well it was bad situation and I threw it out of instinct. Had to improvise on what I had. Ya know?

Ruby raised one of her eyebrows and smirked.

Ruby: To me it looked like you panicked. I mean you did just stab it 28 times. I thought you would've killed it pretty quick.

You sigh and stretch your arms as Weiss comes in ready for combat.

You: Well between you and me. I ain't the best at fighting Grimm.

The fight with Weiss has already begun with Yang and Blake cheering for her with Ruby joining in after your conversation with her.

As the fight continues, Weiss struggles to defeat the Grimm while Ruby cheers and tries to help her, Weiss constantly loses focus on the Grimm to yell at Ruby.

Weiss finally manages to defeat her opponent and stomp out of class. Ruby looks down saddened as you pat her on the head.

Ruby: I'm gonna go talk to her.

Y/N: Ruby, that may not be the best idea. Let her cool off first.

Ruby looks at you slightly shocked that you used her name but shakes her head and runs out of class.

Y/N POV

Me: Goddamnit...

You stand up to go after both of them before things escalate between them, eventually finding them in the hall with Weiss yelling and scolding Ruby.

You hide behind the corner listening in on their argument.

Weiss: That's just it! You've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child, and you've only continued to do so!

Ruby: Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about "working together"? I thought you believed in acting as a team.

Weiss: Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained. And quite frankly, I deserve better.

I hear footsteps and peak around to see Weiss walking away.

Me: Fucking rich brat...

I step out and walk behind Ruby. Once I'm right behind her I put a hand gently on her

She slaps my hand away aggressively and dashes forward with the use of her semblance. This causes the tail of my blazer to fly over my head and rose petals to float around me.

I look past it to see her in a defensive stance but then she tries to stifle a laugh.

She fails as she falls to the ground laughing.

Me: Yeah laugh it up why don't ya?

I straighten myself out and walk up to her. I pick her up off the ground as she calms down.

Ruby: Sorry. You just caught me by surprise.

Me: Yeah you did too.

She looks down saddened as I pat her head again.

Ruby: How much did you hear?

Me: Not much, besides the whole child part...

Ruby: Do you think she's right?

I sigh and look down the hall and then back to her.

Me: No. Because most people like her are given the things they want. You? You earned your position. Regardless of what she says you earned it.

I hear sniffing and see her on the verge of tears.

Ruby: But what about back in the forest? I-

Me: You proved that you could lead in that forest! Could Weiss think of a plan like that? I don't think so. Did you know that most of the things I've done are just me improvising on the situation I have. You improvised a plan with what was in front of you. Most people can't do that. Weiss is too straight forward and doing things by the book all the time won't do good. But you? You can think in and outside the box. That can help immensely in a bad situation.

Ruby looks up slightly shocked.

Ruby: You really think that?

I nod and she jumps up and hugs me.

Ruby: OhthankyouIknewsomeoneotherthanmysisterbelievedinme!

I just chuckled at her childishness and hugged her back.

Me: You do act like a damn child though.

I chuckle till she smack the back of my head.

Ruby: Language!

Me: Case and point Red.

I put her down and smile at her as she does the same.

Me: Well Red classes are over and I need new clothes, so I'm going to Vale. I'll see ya when I see ya!

I start walking off before she calls my name. I turn to her and she laughs slightly.

Ruby: Don't forget your ammo.

I chuckle and thank her for reminding me as I walk outside and grab some other stuff.
