♥ The Blackboard - Scorily

Preface:
This is a next gen shipping fic in which Lily is a fifth year. This Oneshot contains Scorily (Scorpius Malfoy x Lily Luna Potter).

It was a peaceful day like any other. The birds chirped brilliantly and the sun shone brightly. The skies were clear and a slight breeze made the water ripple in the lake gently.

Students were seen basking in the sunlight by the lake, breathing in the bibliosmia of the library's books or stuffing themselves in the Kitchens. In all, every student of Hogwarts was enjoying the day off, but were they?

"Ugh! Why do I have to do this?!" Lily exclaimed in disgust.

"I'm sorry!" Scorpius apologized.

The two students were serving detention for the fancy potions master, Professor Slughorn. Their detention being to decorate the black board for the Ministry examiners to be impressed was going worser than the young Potter had expected.

"Not your fault. It's all Al's fault!" the redhead blamed. Her elder brother Albus had fallen asleep during a late evening Slytherin versus Gryffindor Quidditch match and when the time came to leave, he would not wake; he was just like his mother. Scorpius Malfoy, Albus's best friend seeked for Lily's help to support the sleepy Potter to the Slytherin Common room. However, on their way to the dungeons, the trio was caught by the caretaker of Hogwarts, Argus Filch, as they tried to hurry into a broom cupboard after curfew.

That was the reason for serving detention for Slughorn. Albus was quite lucky as he had a week of detention with Professor Longbottom who happened to be his Godfather.

"Any ideas?" Lily asked, biting her lower lip. Decorating the black board was no easy task, given that she had zero knowledge about borders and designs.

"A vine, maybe?" Scorpius suggested, frowning at the chalk pieces. "I wish we were allowed to do magic."

"I wish the same but a vine? Seriously, Scorp?" Lily whined.

"I'm sorry!"

"How about the cartoon version of dad?" the redhead asked. Scorpius scratched his neck. Lily loved her dad but surely this was not the time to draw a cartoon Harry Potter on the black board.

"I don't think the ministry would love Mr Potter's face in a childish version on the black board, Lily," he tried. Lily frowned. "I'm sorry!"

"Just shut it. How many times will you apologize?"

"I'm sorry that I'm sorry."

Lily ignored him and grabbed a red chalk. The piece of calcium carbonate seemed to make a bulb glow in her brain. She approached the black board and started to draw a miniature creature.

"What's that?" Scorpius asked.

"A phoenix, of course, you daft dimbo!" She moved aside to show a sample drawing of the mythical bird. "This is just an attempt. I'll make it more big but what about the other side. . .?"

"I didn't know you could draw a phoenix!" the Malfoy exclaimed. Lily frowned.

"Is that a compliment or an assertation?" she asked.

"A compliment. Err – I'm sorry!" Scorpius apologized again. Lily facepalmed before starting on the phoenix.

Just as she reached the talons part, confusion became evident in her brown orbs.

"I don't know to draw talons," she stated bluntly. Scorpius blinked before picking up a brown chalk and walking over to the board. She moved away and he drew two thin webbed feet.

"No, no," he muttered under his breath.

"Scorp," Lily started. "Did the phoenix accidentally ingest a dose of Gillyweed?"

"Probably I fed it," Scorpius said before the pair started laughing. When the fun died out, Scorpius made sure to draw proper and intimidating talons.

"That's great. You do the eyes and the beak whilst I draw the tail feathers," Lily ordered and the blonde boy took to drawing the windows to the soul.

After a few minutes, a brilliant red phoenix was staring back at them, gawking soundlessly at its artists. Magic chalks did the trick.

"Let's colour him in."

Scorpius and Lily grabbed identical orange chalks. Whilst the blonde boy coloured from the top, Lily started from the bottom. There came a point where the two ends had to meet and with a smile, Scorpius gladly gave it a photo finish.

"Ah – this looks amazing, Lils!" Lily raised her eyebrow at the nickname, nevertheless she did not comment. Instead, she blushed.

"The border?" she squeaked out.

"Oh right. The border." Thinking led to brainstorming and Scorpius came up with the answer. "Fire. Phoenix and fire. We have to draw flames!"

"That is the best thing you did in your life, Scorp!" Lily complimented with a wink. He nervously scratched his neck before starting to draw flames on the top part of the board.

"Look at us," he started. "We were no artists and I daresay that now we are the best artists that Hogwarts has ever seen!"

Lily chuckled. "I think I am the best artist Hogwarts as ever seen."

"No fair," Scorpius replied than added more to himself than her in a whisper, "but you are, Flower."

When the flames were up to the mark of satisfaction, they took turns colouring in. Using the yellow chalk, they started to shade the fiery border but Lily found her shading going out of the border.

"Here, let me have it," Scorpius asked and took her yellow chalk. He broke into two and offered the pieces to her. She blinked at his pale hand then took a random piece. "It's the smaller one, is it fine?" he asked.

The redhead had not noticed him standing so close so when she did, she turned as red as her hair. "Y-yeah. It'll do."

Scorpius gave her a smile before continuing his work. Wiping off the sweat off of her brow, Lily started on hers.

The shading came to a blissful end of hard work and the two students grinned widely. They stepped behind and admired their handiwork.

The phoenix looked (and acted) realistic, its scarlet tail curling to rise from the fiery flames. Its eyes was a brilliant green, giving a twinkling feel to it and its beak was quite sharp and well drawn. The talons looked menacing as they almost seemed to tear the black of the board. The different shades of auburn was a sharp contrast to the black layout.

"Can you believe that we did this?" Scorpius asked, almost in a whisper. Lily shook her head but her lips were curled up in a smile. It only turned more wider when Slughorn praised their efforts and called the day off.

That night, as Lily closed the curtains around her four poster she smiled at how good her day was when with Scorpius. As the moon's gentle rays of love streaked through the tiny gap in her curtains, she fell asleep thinking of a certain handsome blonde.
