"Hey, what are you all doing!?" A nine year old girl exclaimed angrily at a group of boys, who were ganging up on a messy black haired boy with round glasses.

The girl in question had a pretty untidy look herself - her blue shirt had small patches of dirt on them, the jeans she wore were rolled up to her knees which revealed a few scratches and scars on her legs and a lone bandaid that was sticking her left leg, the white shoes didn't look exactly brand new and clean, and her pigtails don't even have the same color of hair tie.

The boys only sniggered at her appearance, especially since they saw that she was missing one tooth.

"You better scram, girl." The chubby boy, who seemed to be the leader of the group, snarled at the (H/C) haired girl. "Or else you'll end up like this loser here."

"Oh, really?" She smirked as she kneeled down to the ground and grabbed a few medium-sized rocks. "Don't make me throw this at you, Dursley!"

"Ha!" One of the boys in the group pointed at the girl, laughing while watching her throw a rock up and down in her dominant hand. "Try me! You're just a girl; you'll never hit-"

With a scoff from the girl, she took a step back with her dominant leg while aiming at the boy who just laughed at her. With a smirk, she threw the rock straight at the boy's chest.

Sure, she wanted to throw it at his face but she didn't want to be the reason why he was going at a hospital and face serious consequences from her parents.

"Ow!" The boy groaned in pain and stumbled back down to the ground. He took a moment to process what just happened before he started sobbing loudly, snot coming out of his abnormally large nose and tears streaming down to his chin.

"Ah-" The girl's shoulder jumped in fear as she let the rocks fall from her hands. She watched the boy being lifted up from the ground by Dudley, who was glaring daggers at her ragged appearance.

"That was mean! I'll tell the teachers about what happened!" He threatened before walking off with his group, leaving the boy who they were just bullying behind.

"As if bullying others isn't mean!" She yelled out after Dudley and huffed once they were out of sight. The girl walked towards the boy, who was still processing the entire situation. He didn't expect someone to step in and save him, especially in that manner.

"Hey, are you alright?" The girl extended her hand out, a worried expression all over her face. "They didn't beat you up too bad, did they?"

The black haired boy stared at the girl in shock for a moment, then drifted his emerald green eyes at her dirty extended hand. He paused before he lifted his hand, gripping the girl's hand tightly as she took a step back and pulled him up.

"I'm uh... fine." The boy muttered, keeping his gaze at the girl. He didn't know what to feel - should he feel admiration and thankful because she just saved him and this was the first time someone saved him from his cousin, or confused because he didn't know why she would do that.

The girl paused, staring right back at his green eyes. "You have really nice eyes." She compliment the boy, causing him to suddenly feel awkward but he couldn't help the small blush that rushed up to his cheeks when she suddenly complimented him like that.

The girl slapped herself by her forehead and smiled awkwardly at the boy in front of her. "Ah, that was a weird thing to say." She chuckled briefly.

"Sorry, my name is (Y/N)! What's yours?" She introduced herself. The boy gulped and suddenly felt like he shouldn't introduce himself to her. He was known to be the weird kid of St. Grogory's after all.

(Y/N) only awaited for his response, still smiling. After a few seconds, the boy responded. "I'm... Harry."

Suddenly, it felt like something in her mind clicked once she heard his name. "Oh, you're Harry Potter! The uh... Well, everybody says you're weird but I don't really see anything weird about you."

Harry frowned. Everyone knew to stay away from Harry James Potter, especially since weird things always happen around him at any given time. No one really knows why, but it feels like Harry was doing magic randomly.

Whenever Harry was in a room, there's a chance that weird things always happened. For example, there was this one time where the teacher was scolding Harry for turning his assignment late in front of the whole class and suddenly, the teacher's hair suddenly turned green.

Nobody knows why, but they immediately assumed Harry was the cause.

"Well, not that it matters! We're friends now!" (Y/N) bravely declared with her chest pumped out, as if she was proud for making such stupid declaration.

"Friends?" Harry looked at the girl with a confused look on his face.

"Yup! Friends!" She nodded. "I don't have any friends so you're going to have to be my friend starting today!"

"...I refuse." Harry suddenly felt like he didn't want to be associated with the hyper girl. (Y/N) was moving things way too fast and both of them didn't even know each other until now.

Based from (Y/N)'s overactive attitude and dirty appearance, it's clear to Harry why no one wanted to be friends with her.

"I refuse your refusal." She rebutted with a grin. "If Dursley and his friends come back and pick on you again, I'll scare them off for you!"

"I can handle it myself." Harry shook his head and began to dust off any dirt that was on his seemingly oversized clothes. Well, these were Dudley's old clothing and his aunt and uncle couldn't be bothered to spend money for his clothing.

"Aw come on, Potter." She pouted and watched as Harry was about to walk away. "I'll even share my lunch with you if you want! Can we just please be friends?"

Harry stopped in his tracks and sighed, knowing full well that (Y/N) wouldn't give up on him until he said yes. "What would me being your friend do you any good? You'll even have less chances of having friends if I was associated with you." He said, quite harshly might I add.

"Well, I'll finally have someone to talk to! Both of us can look out for each other since you probably don't have any friends as well!" She said. She wasn't really aware how Harry felt kind of offended when she said that he didn't have any friends.

With a defeating sigh escaping Harry's lips, he agreed. "Fine. Don't expect me to be someone who's fun to talk to though." He responded, causing (Y/N) to grin happily once more and jump up in the air.

"Yay! I got my first friend! I'm so happy!" The nine year old girl exclaimed. Harry couldn't lie - he felt somewhat flattered that someone was happy enough to be their friend.

"I'll see you later after classes, Harry!" She said and patted on the boy's back once as she ran off. "Let's go home together later!"

Harry could only watch the girl disappear into the school building. He didn't know how to react - everything just happened so suddenly. One second he was being tortured by his cousin and his friends and then the very next second, he gets a new friend he didn't even expect to get.

The boy shook his head and arranged his round semi-broken glasses as he walked back to the school building.

'That girl's so weird.' He thought.

A year has passed since (Y/N) and Harry became friends. The girl kept her word and always scared Dudley and his friends off whenever they tried to pick on Harry, to the point that Dudley wouldn't even pick on him anymore.

She also often shared her packed lunch with him or even bought him a simple bread from the cafeteria with little money she got from her parents just so Harry could have something to eat.

He mentioned that he doesn't always eat lunch at school because his aunt and uncle wouldn't give him any money and any soggy sandwich that his aunt would pack for him would get eaten by Dudley the moment he takes it out of his bag.

This made (Y/N) frown and feel bad for him, especially since he was living in such conditions.

After this, she made sure that her mother would pack her extra food in her lunch so Harry could eat enough for the entire day. She didn't mention it at her mother though since (Y/N) knew that her mother would scold her for sharing her lunch with someone, especially since that lunch was only made for her.

Her mother warned her that she'd get fat if she keeps eating in such amount of food, but  (Y/N) didn't pay much attention to her.

Harry, of course, was very thankful for (Y/N). He never really had an actual friend before this because no one wanted to get close to him, so this was a first. He even admitted to himself that he's grown fond of the girl who would always be there for him every break time.

He liked how (Y/N) would help him study in an available seat in the cafeteria before tests, he liked how she would always buy him something whenever it was lunch or recess, and he liked how (Y/N) was just a really fun person to be around.

She was often a troublesome kid but paid attention to classes as her mother would ground her if she had a failing grade. Due to (Y/N)'s boyish nature and dirty attire, none of the girls or boys really wanted to be friends with her. She had way too filthy dirt in her clothes for boys to approach her and she was too boyish for girls to be friends with her.

So really, (Y/N) only had Harry and she was fine with that. She enjoyed Harry's company, even if he was mostly a sarcastic git.

This lasted for a year, however and the two were now ten years old. It was supposed to be a normal day - it was the week before the summer break. The week before the two of them would get separated into different schools.

Harry prayed that (Y/N) would go to Stonewall High with him. He knew that it would be unpleasant to go to a school like Stonewall High, as Dudley mentioned that first years were subjected to a cruel hazing ritual in which their heads would be pushed down a toilet but Harry thought it was worth to survive in there for seven years if (Y/N) was with him.

"Harry," (Y/N) called for her friend's attention. "There's um... something I have to tell you."

Harry frowned and felt his heart sink deeper when he realized that she must be enrolling to a different secondary school. But, he still had hopes as he didn't tell (Y/N) he was going to Stonewall High.

"What is it?" Harry forced a smile when he saw how sad her facial expression was.

"I'm... I'm moving to Japan this summer." She said, her sad expression deepening as Harry only stared at her in shock.

Japan? He knew he was going to hear bad news but he didn't expect the news to be that bad.

"Oh..." is all what Harry could say. He didn't know how to respond - the girl he was fond of for a year was suddenly moving away. The first friend and potential crush he had just gone like that.

"My mum told me that uh... my dad's work in Tokyo was getting too hectic that he couldn't go home anymore." She said while packing her empty lunchbox in her bag. "She didn't have a choice - we'd have to move there with him."

"I see..." Harry only frowned. "But, Japan... isn't that too far? Would you be alright?" He asked and secretly wanted to convince (Y/N) and her mother to stay here in England.

"Yeah, it's far but I think I'll be fine." She said in a small laugh. "I should be asking you that question - would you be alright without me?" (Y/N) asked jokingly while playfully nudging him with her arm.

"I... I think so." Harry also said in a small nervous laugh. Truth to be told, he didn't know if he was going to be alright. What if he won't have someone like (Y/N) again by the time he moves in to a new school? Especially in a school like Stonewall High?

"Cheer up, Harry." She said with a smile as she stood up and stretched her arms. "Who knows? Maybe I'll be able to see you again."

"And... when would that be?" He asked with a frown.

"I don't know, but I do hope we'll get to see each other again." She said while swinging her back over her shoulders. "When that happens, I'm counting on you to not forget about me, okay?"

Harry seemed unsure and lowered his head to the ground with a frown. He was sure to never forget (Y/N), but the question is, would she still remember him by the time they meet again?

When the girl saw Harry's reaction, she frowned until she remembered something she had to give to Harry before she would leave.

"Look, let me just-" She said while rummaging through her already messy bag, retrieving two fake silver rings that had both of their names clumsily carved in. "Here, you can take the ring that has my name in it so that way, you won't forget about me." She grinned and handed the ring over to Harry, who looked at it in surprise.

The boy slowly took the ring from (Y/N)'s fingertips and examined it. He couldn't help but smile at the way her name was carved in the ring, which made him think that she was probably the one who did it.

"I'll wear this so I won't forget about you." She said and wore the ring in her left hand's ring finger. "See?" She held up her hand for Harry to see with a grin.

Harry softly blushed at this and slowly wore the ring in his left hand's ring finger as well. He blinked for a moment, feeling a small rush of happiness when he realized that since both of them were wearing the same rings with their names on it, it felt like they were married.

"Okay." He nodded and stood up from his seat, smiling at the girl. "Promise me you won't forget about me - about us." Harry said while bringing up his pinky finger.

(Y/N) chuckled and raised her own pinky finger, intertwining it with Harry's.

"I promise."

Harry reminisced at the memory and gently traced over the ring that he got from a certain (H/C) haired girl five years ago.

Right now, he was starting his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He didn't expect himself to be a wizard who has magical powers, but it was better than attending Stonewall High with a bunch of close-minded muggles.

As he sat with his best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, he thought about (Y/N) and wondered if she was doing alright in Tokyo.

He hadn't forgotten about her for these past five years and he couldn't bring himself to. He wanted to think that it was just some stupid childhood crush he can get over, but Harry couldn't forget about her nor even throw this ring away.

It was the last thing she left behind that made him remind of her.

Harry sighed and watched the changing scenery from his compartment's window. He thought that if there was a chance that (Y/N) could still come back to Surrey and surprise him a visit by summer, he had to take that chance.

She had to come back, one way or another.
