Isolated

I stand alone at a dimly lit corner while everyone enjoys the day.
A strong desire burns inside to go over and join their conversation, but my feet are glued in place.
No one pays attention and continues to chat throughout the active class.
Trapped in the dark thoughts that bind me in chains, I try to break free as the negativity engulfs me.

I want to have friends—to experience life instead of this prison cell that is my four-walled bedroom.
For me, I'm my own worst enemy, and growth isn't that easy.
So please don't say to stop being sensitive, or you need to grow up or make a mockery of my problems.
You have no idea how I feel deep down.
And for those who understand what position I'm in, let's do our best not to let anxiety win.

A/N: This was written during a depressive period dealing with my social anxiety. The battle is still a tough one and doesn't just go away when you hit a certain age. So for anyone struggling with mental health, don't give in.
