× Chapter III ×

I felt tears around my eyes as I woke up to a phone call. I grabbed it and realized it was a video call. I accepted it as I wiped away the tears with the sleeve of my shirt.

"Javi?" My voice staggered.

"Did I wake you up?"

"Yeah," I rubbed my eyes.

"Sleepyhead." He chuckled under his breath.

I gave him a cold stare, but it didn't last long. I slowly lowered my eyelids and gave a small smile. He had caught on, though.

"What's wrong?" His worried voice echoed through my ears.

I gave out a heavy sigh. As much as I wanted to remember what I even dreamt, I couldn't tell him what was wrong. Whatever it is made me cry.

"I don't know," my voice cracked. "It was something about a dream that I don't even know about."

I tried my best to remember even the slightest thing. Not a single fragment could have helped me recall anything. All I knew was black nothingness. Honestly, I don't remember dreaming at all. I slept like a baby yet I dreamt about something.

"Whatever it was it made me cry," my voice was now hoarse.

"Awe, well I'll be there soon." He comforted me. "Maybe in ten minutes."

"Okay, see you in a bit."

"I lo-" He stopped himself and sighed. "I'll see you."

I smiled back and hung up. I knew what he wanted to say, that he loves me. Once again, I blamed myself. As I had gotten up from my bed and changed back to my swimwear, I continued to blame myself. If I was somebody else right now, anyone would see right through me. I am with the wrong person and he doesn't make me happy. I can't do anything about it right now, it's only the first month. I kept telling myself that as I glanced at the time every passing minute.

I grabbed my things once more and went out of the apartment. I strode myself to the community pool and unlocked the gate. I laid my belongings down on a lounge chair and unlocked the other gate to let Javi in. He walked beside me to the lounge chair beside the jacuzzi and in front of the pool by the shallow water.

"I'll be back," he said as he picked up a few clothes.

I went through my phone as I waited. As I went through short animal videos on TikTok and read a few notifications from social media, I heard him turning on the shower. I had put my phone down on my towel and stood up. I carefully chose my footing as I didn't want to recklessly fall into the water. As I sank myself into the cold water, I quickly dipped myself in and held my breath for the next five seconds. I resurfaced and my hair was dripping wet. I slid my hair back and wiped away the water on my face. I slowly leaned in on the water from my back and had begun to float around the pool.

I admired the twinkling stars above me as I listened carefully to the background noises. Crickets chirped around the place but who knew where they could be. It may be a summer night, but at these times the weather was perfect. The falling droplets of water made the sound pitter-patter before he turned it off. As he came wandering back, I closed my eyes.

The water surrounded me. The water flowed to wherever it would take me. The cold water was now warm, but it won't be like that for far too long. Small waves swayed over my arms and legs but not my face as Javi swam in toward me.

"Oh shit," I exclaimed.

He chuckled as he embraced me in his grasp. I arm locked his neck as I scanned the area and noticed we were in the middle of the pool.

"Oh, crap." I closed my eyes shut.

"Haha," he softly laughed. "You still can't swim past four feet."

"Nope," I immediately responded.

"Relax," he comforted me. "I got you."

I whimpered but took his words. He did a u-turn where he was the one facing the rec room this time around. All while he did most of the swimming, I held on by not letting go of my arms from his neck. He loved the view as my face was the main focus from his eyesight.

"I love you," he reminded me.

"I know," then I averted my eyes. "I'm sorry."

"You know I'll always love you."

He kissed me on the forehead when I made a sad whimper. I kept looking away because I knew that he would be caught on what my eyes held. We swam for the next hour, the moon above us shimmering their reflection on the water. We knew what we were up against, but we never held back. We both kept our gazes on one another. Our face was just inches away and our lips just a touch away. We both held it in but we knew we couldn't keep it in for much longer. There were times where we swam separately and I floated on my back a few times. I kept my eyes on the stars. Some you can see but others were dim. Once there was a jet that flew by us. I was not sure of the color as it seemed to be gray from afar. Javi then caught my attention.

I was by the shallow waters from the opposite side of him. I dipped myself under the water and swam toward his direction. I resurfaced and stood in front of him only to be met by water splashed onto my face by him.

"Hey," I shouted.

"Come on, let's go." He showed me his phone. "It's nearing three."

"Okay," I whispered. "We can shower at my place."

"Because you're alone."

"Yes, I still am." I chuckled along with him.

We got out of the pool and felt a gust of cold air on my skin. I shivered as I involuntarily gritted my teeth. I walked as fast as I could to get a hold of my towel. I wrapped it around me and grabbed my stuff as Javi did the same.

"Hurry up, I'm cold." I shivered once more.

We made our way inside and I put away the pool key onto the counter. Once we both took our showers, Javi had put on clean work clothes. I just happened to change back into my nightwear. I came back from my bathroom to the bedroom and saw him already laying down on my bed. I climbed over and laid down from his left side.

He had already switched on the plasma television. As he surfed through my sub-account on Netflix, I covered myself with the heavy blanket. I made sure he had his fair share as well. I like to sleep in my room cold. I had the electric fan turned on when I came here and the ceiling fan after I came from the shower.

"What do you want to watch?" He asked me.

"Anything, maybe movies."

It took him a good ten minutes to find something. It was already considered cheating to everyone in the world once you slept with another person. He should know that as he was the one who kissed me on the first day he met me. My thoughts were interrupted when Javi rubbed my head, my hair strands in between his soft fingers.

"Comfy, kitty?"

I purred in response. He nicknamed me kitty because I love cats and I act like one as well. However, I only acted that way for Javi and no one else. He continued to slowly rub the top of my head as I laid my head on his chest. 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' played in the background. It was only halfway through the movie that I started to feel my eyelids getting heavy.

As much time has passed, I kept hearing my clock ticking the time away. I always felt kisses being planted on my forehead. By now, I'm half awake and half asleep. My breathing became heavy. As I started to doze off, the last word I heard that came out of his lips echoed from my left ear.

"Goodnight..."
