Chapter 9 - Weird

The next morning I woke up at six to take a shower and get ready for my lectures. After the hot, refreshing bath, I put on my black leggings, a white sweater and my Vans of course. I sat in front of the mirror as I was doing my makeup. I didn't go for anything strong. I just put a little bit of concealer and mascara. I braided my hair in two long dutch braids and took one last glance in the mirror. I grabbed my bag but before I leave, I decided to wake up Rosie since I knew she has lectures in an hour and a half.

I was walking through the halls, heading to the classroom when someone stopped me. It was Isaac. He looked a little bit confused and was literally pleading me to talk with him. Something was up and I had no idea what was going on. He literally dragged me into an empty classroom and looked at the halls one last time before closing the door as if he was scared to see someone near that door.

 - What the hell is going on? - I asked in a high-pitched voice. I wish I could scream at him but he looked like he didn't want to be suspicious.

  - Did you talk with Rosie? - I shook my head. I didn't get a chance to speak with her since I was working and then I had a date. We had a small conversation but nothing really important.

 - I swear to God if you did something...

 - I didn't! Geez! - he cut me off and run his hand through his hair. - I think that is the problem. - I looked at him obviously "confusion" written all over me.

 - You should talk to her. - was all I could say.

 - I can't. I mean...

 - Isaac! Spit it out! What happened? - Now I was screaming.

 - Yesterday, when you were on your date, I came to your room. Rosie was there and invited me in and we were talking and it was good and she is a very nice person and she listens, and...

 - I got it, Romeo. - I cut him off wanting him to get to the actual point. I have classes after all which I have to attend if I don't want to be kicked out.

 - She asked me why I stayed the other night and why did I sleep with her.

 - What did you say?

 - Nothing! I panicked. - he grabbed his head in his palms. - I don't know. It just happened. I know we should probably talk about it but...I can't. It's too soon. - I kind of get his point. They know each other for years but they haven't spoken much lately and now the party and the sleepover. I guess it may be too soon for whatever. Rosie wouldn't go into details also. When I asked her, her response was calm like it was nothing. She didn't expect something from Isaac and I have the feeling he doesn't expect anything from himself either. I told him to calm down and apologize for panicking. They should talk, maybe later, but they should even if it means nothing or something.

I was late for my lecture with five minutes and as soon as I got in I apologized and sat on the last free spot which was next to Chase.

 - Hey. - he whispered.

 - Hi. - I smiled back.

 - Why were you late? - he asked me as he continued writing the plan for today.

 - Friends problems. Nothing important. - I waved off.

 - I had a great time last night. - I felt him now staring at me, smirking.

 - Me too. - And it was true. I really enjoyed my time with him. As friends. Nothing more. I am happy we had our little deal between us for me giving him a chance but at the same time not giving a promise, I can not keep. I don't understand what is he winning. Chase knows I am not going to give what he wants but he still insists on his chance. Whatever it is, let it be. Soon we were dismissed and Chase and I left the room together.

 - You should see this movie. It's awesome. I am sure you are going to like it.

 - Why do you think I enjoy action? - I asked with a big smile on my face.

 - Because you are strong and unfortunately I am sure you can kick some asses. - we were laughing in the hall as we were walking to the exit of the building. It was lunchtime and Chase asked me if I wanted to have lunch outside the college. My eyes glanced over Rosie. She was a few meters away talking with Isaac. I really hoped they would work it out. It wasn't a big deal after all, right? They are just too different.

Rest of the day went on quickly. Chase and I had lunch together talking about the creative writing class and how much we enjoyed it. There was so much more to explore in the sphere of writing. After the lunch I went to the library to get some books from the reading list Mrs. Williams gave to us. I ended up getting four books. I headed back to my room. I decided that this night I will study. I don't want to fall behind.

 - Hi. - I said to Rosie who was drawing surrounded by her usual mess of paints, papers, pencils and whatever comes to your mind that she would probably need.

 - Hey. - Her response was short and she never looked at me.

 - Are you okay? - I sat next to her, trying not to get on her way of drawing.

 - Isaac... - she started but then - ...forget about it, okay? - She shook her head and smiled weakly.

 - I am not forgetting anything. Isaac came to me earlier that day and he is concerned about you.

 - What are you talking about? - She finally looked at me.

 - What are YOU talking about? - I was confused. Didn't they talk about what is going on between themselves?

 - Ah, yeah. Sorry. We were talking about the night he stayed over. He apologized for being so weird. I understand that it has been time and now we are talking again but we are older and of the opposite sex. We will just see with the time. - She smiled. Weird. Everything is weird.

 - Okay. - I said. So they talked about it. I am glad. But why do I have the feeling that they are hiding something from me? Maybe I am overreacting. I should be. I stood up and started studying. An hour later my phone rang and I saw the word "Mom" written on the screen.

 - Hey, mom. - I picked up my phone.

 - How are you, darling?

 - I am fine. How are you? Everything okay? - I asked back.

 - Yeah, everything is perfect. - she responded. I told her about Susan and Ben. I told her that eventually, I started working for Susan over the weekends.

 - Do you miss me? - I half laughed, joking.

 - Of course, we do. We all miss you. -She said and moments of silence went by. - He misses you.

 - What?

 - Your dad. He misses you.

 - Oh. - Weird. I took goodbye with my mom and went off to bed. It was getting late and I wanted to take one good, long rest.

We were staying just like this. Starring into each other's faces. He got closer and closer. I could smell his perfume. I could almost taste his lips. The taste of mint. I miss that. I miss him. He leaned in...and it started pouring.

 - You should better go home before you are soaking wet. - he half-whispered.

Oh, Aiden. Aiden!

I woke up breathing heavily and looked at the time showing on my phone. It was three o'clock in the morning. I should try to fall asleep again since I have three more hours. But then I heard my phone buzzing. Maybe it was already six and I was just half asleep. But when I picked up my phone again...

Aiden: Talk to me, please baby.
