Chapter 6 - Regrets
The phone was on one hand reach. It was just there with a light screen on. C'mon Scarlett, I know you want to peak. Just one quick glance. And then it's over.
"You are so sweet."
"You are beautiful xxx"
My heart sank. Is this consider cheating? Does he like her? Does he love her? Does he love me? I don't understand. So many questions.
- Scar!
- You...do you like her? - My voice was shaking. My lips were trembling. I was on the edge of literally bursting into tears.
Just another nightmare. I stood from my bed and grabbed clean clothes and went to take a quick shower. This dream made me think about the break up. I am still not sure if that was considered cheating. However, for me, cheating comes from the point when your heart says that this is not right. What I felt back then is something I will never forget. I felt betrayed. Everything was a lie. Yet again it felt so real. Isaac! I need to talk to Isaac. I remember when I talked with him back in the time after Aiden and I broke up. He said that if I didn't break up with him then, we probably would anyway because Aiden was about to cheat on me physically.
I put on my black ripped jeans and a grey knitted sweater with my UGG boots. I had to look for Isaac. I went into the building where we usually have lectures and I saw him leaning against the wall flirting with some girl.
- Sorry to interrupt but we need to talk. - The girl sighed and he just made a gesture for her to leave.
- You two are going to be the death of me one day. Just so you know.
- Glad.
We walked outside and he took his car keys from his pocket, telling me to get in. He pulled in front of a pub in the city center. We took a table and ordered two Cokes.
- So, I am listening.
- Remember the thing you told me after the break up? That it was going to happen anyway? - I started. I didn't really know how to put this.
- Yeah. Look, Scar. He did some shit. He made mistakes he was not realizing back then. But we were all kids. Whatever. Now he is regretting it. - his voice tone was so calm like it was obvious. Maybe I should show him the messages. Maybe he knows. Just maybe, I can get my answers.
- He is texting me.
- I know.
- How?
- Scarlett, we are best buddies. If you ask me this... - Isaac pointed at my phone. - ...is stupid. I told him so many times but he just won't listen.
- Why is he doing it?
- This I have no idea. He won't talk to me about it. - I sighed. This is not helping at all.
During the car ride back we were catching up for the past time. Isaac never really got into a serious relationship. He said that there was no girl that was catching his eye really. He also said that he misses his friends as hell but he wanted to go study in a good college and this is how he ended up here. He is in art and I told him about my best friend Rosie who is in these classes as well. They both know each other from before of course but he wasn't attending lectures that often so he never saw her here.
- I might start going to these lectures. - he said as he pulled the car in front of the dorms.
- You better. - I smiled and just as I was about to get out of the car, I heard Isaac calling my name. I turned to him.
- He regrets it, really. - and with that, I left.
I opened the door of my room and getting inside, I saw Rosie already awake.
- Hey, where were you? - she asked me.
- Do you remember Isaac?
- Sure, I do.
- Well, I was with him. - I said and Rosie just patted the free spot on her bed.
- Tell me everything.
- He studies here. Yesterday I saw him by accident and I decided to talk to him today about Aiden and everything that is going on. I thought he would know something I don't but he doesn't. He only told me that Aiden is not giving up, whatever that means. - I didn't tell her that she and Isaac are in the same course. Thought it would be funny to surprise her. - Anyway, how was your date? Enough talk about me. - we giggled and she clapped her hands which is usually a sign that she is going to speak for a little bit longer.
- So... - she started. - We went to this expensive restaurant and everything was so nice. We had a reservation, he bought me flowers, we drank wine. Everything fine, right? But he is just so boring. - I couldn't help but laugh at that statement.
- What do you mean? I thought he was hot and now you are telling me all this, which sounds like a pretty decent guy.
- He is just too perfect if you know what I mean. Yes - he is hot. Yes- he is a gentleman. But he is boring. When I asked him about hobbies, can you guess what he said?
- Football?
- Exactly. And he keeps talking about this sports scholarship he needs. How many competitions his team won. There is nothing more. That's just it.
- I have an idea. - I snapped. - Enough of these stupid asshole boys. Text Ben to come, I will grab some popcorn and we will have a sleepover and watch movies, okay? I will even turn off my phone. - I said and drew an imaginary cross over my heart, signing that I swear nothing will bother us.
- Sounds like a plan. - Rosie smiled back at me and grabbed her phone to text Ben.
After an hour or so, Ben came over. I already went to the shop to buy some popcorn and the three of us cuddled on Rosie's bed. We decided on watching some old comedy. These are always the best. I put on "The Hot Chick". The night was going great. Nobody bothered us as we all switched off our phones. The room was filling with a laugh from time to time. Eventually, we drifted asleep. Tomorrow was Saturday so we didn't need to worry about waking up. This was the first night I actually had a good sleep.
