Chapter 10 - New things

Chase: "Want to help me out with my book?"

Scarlett: "Sure. Be there in ten."

I grabbed my bag almost storming off the room when Rosie called after me.

 - Scar! - I turned to her. - We need to talk. - she said.

 - Sure. What is it? - I sat on the bed next to her.

 - It's about Aiden.

 - I am sorry. I have to go. - I quickly walked outside. Guilt was filling my throat. I hate that I had to turn my back on my best friend but I didn't want to talk about him. Not now, nor ever. I am moving on. I knocked on Chase's room and soon he opened the door letting me in. He wanted me to help him with the editing of his book and overviewing it. Since today I had a day off, I didn't mind helping him and get distracted as much as I can. Unfortunately, I was not able to keep my mind distracted anymore when I was with Rosie since Isaac is here as well. It's just like the past is coming back and I this was the least I needed now. I started running through the pages as Chase was taking notes on his laptop. I was actually impressed. Although it was a horror, it was interesting and mysterious. It kept you wanting to know more. There were a few things that needed to be better but they were not that important anyway. This book has potential and I am more than sure that it is going to sale.

 - What do you think? - Chase looked at me.

 - The book is captivating. Definitely. I love it. - I said and saw a smile growing on his face.

 - Then I guess, the first copy will be for you. - Time was going so fast. When I last looked at the time, it was one in the afternoon. I checked the time and it was already five.

 - I think we need to take a rest. - I said. - We have been doing this for the last four hours.

 - Really? Sorry I kept you so long. - he apologized.

 - Not that I had any plans. - I reassured him and he sighed.

 - Do you want to go out for dinner? - He turned to me.

 - Oh! So that was your plan? Keeping me locked for hours doing your work just so you can ask me for dinner. Is this how you get girls to go on a date with you? - I joked.

 - Only you. - He said back and we laughed. He handed me his hand as I took it and we headed downstairs. Chase opened the car door for me and I got inside. While he was driving I was the one in charge of the music. We were singing out loud as if we were competing against each other.

 - You sing awful. - I laughed at his impressions of the song.

 - Oh, c'mon! - He parked the car in front of a fast food diner.

We ordered burgers with chips and while waiting for it to come, Chase came up with a game to play. As he explained it is called "Would you rather", where you basically have to choose between two options.

 - Would you rather be a vampire or a human? - He asked me.

 - A human. - I immediately said without even thinking about it.

 - Really? But vampires are immortal. And they are extremely fast. I would rather be a vampire.

 - I would rather not. Being immortal means that everyone you know will die before you. And you get stuck in time alone. - I gave my perspective. - I want to live my life to the fullest. I want to graduate, buy my own house, have children and grow old seeing them grow old, and have to look after my grandchildren. What is the point of life if you are immortal?

 - Good point. I now regret my choice. - Soon the burgers and the chips came and I didn't realize till now how hungry was I. We started eating in almost full silence. From time to time, Chase was trying to make me laugh by eating like a pig or telling stupid jokes which he managed to do.

It was almost eight when we left the diner. Chase drove to the dorms and walked me to my room after. Before I got into my room he said: - Thank you for helping me.

 - No problem. Just don't get used to it. - He smirked at my words and put his palm on my face, brushing my cheeks. His hand traveled to my hair and he grabbed a piece of it, putting it behind my ear. My lips parted. What is going on? My body was reacting to him in a weird way. In a way, it shouldn't. I gulped and looked at his deep blue eyes. I haven't noticed how blue are his eyes before this moment. They reminded me of the ocean. Beautiful. Peaceful. Pure. Just like him.

 - Chase... - I whispered.

 - I know. - he said back. I could see the disappointment in his eyes. He looked down but I grabbed his face in my small hands. Brave. I need to be brave. I shouldn't be scared. He looked back at me surprised and this time I crashed my lips to his. He grabbed me by my waist, his hands traveling everywhere on my back desperate to taste me. I gave him entrance and our tongues started dancing together. It was harsh and soft at the same time. His taste was sweet. After what felt like minutes, we parted breathing heavily in need of air.

 - Scar. - He rested his forehead on mine.

 - Goodnight, Chase. - I opened the door to my room and went inside, leaving him for tonight. I don't know what happened. I remember spending the day with him working on his book, laughing, talking, eating. Time was flying with him. I felt happy. For once. I made a mistake. I let it happen. When he kissed me, I felt something in my stomach. I was starting to have feelings. I don't want to end up hurt again. And I surely do not want to hurt Chase, which was what I was going to do. There is no way this was going to end up well with my broken self.
