Chapter 14: Not a Fairy Tale

His eyes were warm, his smile inviting, his hand reached to lace with hers-

Then she woke.

(Name) sighed, ashamed at herself for even dreaming about something like that. Marriage was still a far-off fantasy.

The room was still dark, and she could hear Gary shifting beside her as she closed her eyes once again.

Drifting off into peaceful bliss, (Name) wouldn't want to have her life be any other way.

Which was unfortunate, as these conditions would definitely not last long.

~~~
A tear dripped down the little pink Pokemon's face. Mesprit glanced hopelessly at the blue Lake Guardian's tiny body trapped in the Master Ball next to itself. Ana's gonna force us to cast the spell full-force, Mesprit told Azelf telepathically. We didn't keep the full promise. We didn't make the spell to last. I'm relieved that at least Uxie is safe though.
Ana's going to pay one day, Azelf sent back angrily. But... but not before she gets what she wants. Our lakes are darkening with pollution. I can feel it. If we don't get back soon, we won't be able to stop it. She said she would release us once we comply. We have no choice.
Indeed, Mesprit agreed.
~~~

Uxie breathed heavily. Now not only was it in charge of its own lake but its fellow guardians' lakes as well, and it was losing energy quickly. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Uxie calmed itself and began to fight the oncoming darkness appearing in Azelf and Mesprit's lakes. I have to protect these lakes. Even if it means sacrificing my life. Because my life can save countless others.

"Arceus!" Darkrai's voice boomed. "Cresselia and I haven't been able to find a trace of him."

"Neither have we," Giratina sighed, gesturing to herself and Yveltal.

"We MUST find him!" Arceus roared. "He has to be punished for what he has done!" Cresselia swallowed nervously.

"Lord Arceus," she began quietly. "We... we've also lost contact with Shaymin..." Yveltal gritted its teeth.

He's replacing who I am, he's becoming the monster I was, and this time, I am making sure no one is going to make the same mistakes as I did. I was foolish and idiotic, and I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that even he won't fall as deep into darkness as I did. He needs to be stopped to be saved.

~~~
Jamie didn't know what to do. Shaymin was knocked out and she had no Pokemon on her. It was time. Time to reveal who she really was.
Tears stung her eyes. All these years she had been under a false facade. When she met Shaymin, she swore she would never show her real self.
All these years, the person (Name) was looking for wasn't her cover, but who she was when she wasn't pretending to be somebody else.
"I have no choice but to return to the person I really am..." Her brown hair grew to reach her waist. Her eyes shifted from dark brown to brilliant green. Her height increased, to reach one of an average 26-year old woman.
No one knew.
No one suspected a thing.
"Thank you, Mr. Mime, for using Light Screen to alter my appearance all these years," the woman whispered softly to one of her Pokeballs.
Pulling out another one of her Pokeballs, she called out her Pidgeot. Scooping Shaymin into her arms, the young woman swooped out of Gracidea Meadow, as the fearsome Pokemon that had tried to kill them roared. It was too slow. The only thing left in Gracidea Meadow was scarlet red liquid. Blood.
Jamie Andrews never existed.
All this time, she had been an altered form of none other than Leaf (Last Name).
~~~

"Gary? GARY FUCKING OAK! WHERE ARE YOU?!"

~~~
Azelf concentrated as she controlled Gary's will. It made him board a plane. Gary strolled around like a sleepwalker, unable to fully process what he was doing. Azelf's eyes filled with tears.
This is wrong. Terribly wrong. But what else am I supposed to do? Let people die from dehydration?
~~~

The jewel on Mesprit's forehead lit up. The Pokemon fluttered in circles. Soon the spell would be cast. The spell that would keep (Name) and Gary apart forever.

~~~
Kaila's bright green eyes shot open.
"MOMMY! DADDY!" she shouted. May and Drew came rushing in, panicked looks claiming their faces.
"Kaila? What's wrong?" May questioned frantically.
"I... I..." Kaila stuttered. "(Name)... and the L-Lake Guardians... and Cresselia and Darkrai... MOMMY, DADDY, I DON'T KNOW WHO THE LAKE GUARDIANS OR CRESSELA OR DARKRAI ARE!" May and Drew exchanged worried glances.
"Kaila, where did you learn about those Pokemon?" Drew demanded.
"It... it was in my dream! And then there was a girl with long brown hair and green eyes and-"
"Kaila Hayden has been chosen." May and Drew jumped.
A tall white Pokemon with a regal look in its eye glared down at the girl's parents.
"Reshiram," Drew breathed.
"Protect her from all harm. She is the human race's only hope. She is now a Seer. She can know everything that's happening when everyone else is oblivious. Want a chance at living through the next two years or so?" Reshiram's eyes flashed. "Keep her safe. It's bad enough that Zekrom has been captured by that man N, and Zekrom's son is in the possession of (Name) (Last Name). We're running out of Pokemon that fight for good.
"Because evil is always the easy path, the evil will ALWAYS outnumber the good."
~~~

"What in the-" Gary woke with a start. He was on an airplane. His eyes widened. He whipped out his phone to text his fiancee. He couldn't find her contact.

He typed in the number by memory and wrote,

To: (Name)

From: Gary

Hey. Did you buy me an airplane ticket or something? Because I'm on a fucking plane.

He hit Send. He was then greeted by a giant WARNING! message, saying that the number did not exist. He tried sending it again and again but each time he was met with that sign.

Mesprit's P.O.V.

This spell was one of the most powerful I possessed.

It is always used on at least two people, always a man and a woman.

If the two people are to walk past each other, at any time, they render the other invisible. They cannot hear the other talk, cannot feel the other, and no one can see the two together.

If a woman happens to pass by the two people who the spell was cast on at the same time, she would only see a man. If a man passes by the people who the spell was cast on, he would only see a woman.

If one tries to contact the other, there would be no way to, as if the other person never actually existed.

However, there is no memory loss whatsoever in this situation, which means being a victim makes the whole thing more torturous.

There is no way for the two victims to be together or be seen together once the spell is cast.

Unless the caster, in this case, me, lifts the spell.

That is one thing I am completely forbidden to do.

But who said I wasn't a rebel...?

Justice will always win.

One day, I will find a way to make things right.

Until then, (Name) and Gary, hang in there.

~~~
(Name)'s P.O.V.
He was gone.
I couldn't get a hold of him.
I couldn't contact him, couldn't do anything.
What am I supposed to do now? Go back to my old life?
I swallowed hard. Yes. That was my one and only choice. I will just wait.
I have faith in him. Even if he chose to actually leave me forever, I will hope. I won't give up hope.
Why did he leave? Did he not want to be around me anymore? Did he find another... another woman?
I sighed. There's no point to jump to conclusions. But he blocked off all communications and I have no idea where he went.
Maybe I ruined my future by even going back to him in the first place.
Maybe being separated from him was a sign that we aren't supposed to be together.
Maybe I should just stay away from him, for the good of both of us.
He probably thought I was in his way, which is why he left.
Which means I must leave too.
Not before I visit Jamie though. Maybe she knows something.
~~~

Nothing.

There was nothing.

A puddle of blood was in the middle of the now dark and dreary wasteland. I was speechless.

The trees were gone, the grass brown, and the scarlet blood was the brightest thing in the place.

Then I noticed a word carved into the ground.

U-N-O-V-A.

Anger inside me burned. "Who in the hell did this?!" i shouted. "I have no choice... I have to make the person who dared to get near someone I care about pay!"

With Gary out of my life, maybe it will be better. I need to find Jamie and Shaymin, or at least avenge them. I need to.

I don't need a man in my life.

Because I'm not a princess, I don't need a prince.

I'm anything but a damsel in distress that needs a rescuer.

I can be my own hero.

Because you know what?

This life isn't a fairy tale.

And not everyone gets a happy ending.
