Chapter 26; Leonardo
Song: Fallen Angels - Black Veil Brides
The Kraangdroids don't know what hit them. They crumble to the ground at the expert touch of my katanas. Flying through the air with my weapons extended is the most thrilling feeling; and taking down some enemies in the process makes me feel even better.
Once I take down all of the Kraangdroids surrounding me, I check my two companions. Elizabetta is doing fine on her own, though I can't help noticing she looks a bit ill. Her sickness slows her attacks down and makes her vulnerable.
I start to step in, but Michelangelo beats me to it. He compensates for her weakness and helps her defeat the rest of the Kraangdroids. Within a few minutes, the way Michelangelo, Elizabetta, and I had taken is dead silent. I can only hope that Raphael and Donatello also had the same luck.
We swiftly, but softly, make the rest of the trip across the room. Different kinds of buttons on the walls flash as we go by. I catch Michelangelo looking at them with a curious expressin on his face. I have to warn him more than once to not touch anything. I can just imagine the place going up in flames because of him.
We reach the laboratory door. I have a temporary moment of panic when Raphael and Donatello aren't already there, but then they come around the corner battling two Kraangdroids.
Donatello has his bo-staff against the 'droid's neck. I slide over and knock the enemy's legs out from under it with my katanas. Donatello flashes me a grateful glance as he pants, "Thanks."
About that time, Raphael sets the other Kraangdroid off-balance and stabs its face with his sai. He looks up at me triumphantly as his challenger turns into a useless pile of junk.
I run over to the laboratory door. I nod at Donatello to get him to pick the lock. He does, and the door pops open just a centimeter.
Motioning for the others to stay back, I slowly stick my fingers between the crack. I slide one door away just enough to peek inside.
As I examine the next room, I notice a few things worth remembering. Though there are several of them, the Kraang aren't in armor; they're just hovering around on weird contraptions. There is a pool of mutagen in the middle of the room. A huge screen is placed in the back. A familiar human shape sits in front of it, his back facing me. Baxter Stockman.
Most important of all, there's a long counter right beside the door. Test tubes and beakers dot it, much like Donatello's lab. It could be a perfect place to hide.
I glance at the four beings behind me. I put a finger to my lips to shush them, looking pointedly at Michelangelo. Then I motion for them to follow me.
I turn back around and open the door a bit more. Once I'm in, I shut it just enough for Raphael to place his fingers in. I slip behind the counter and wait for the others to pop in.
One by one, my team appears at my side. Donatello is the last in. As soon as he's hidden with us, he focuses on me.
"I need to get to the computer Stankmin is on," the purple-clad turtle breathes. "I can search it and find out what Shredder's exact plans are. All I need is a-" Suddenly, his T-Phone ringtone splits through the silence.
The turtle pulls his phone out at answers it. "Donatello," he says.
My gaze trails upwards. Right above me are three Kraang staring at us menacingly. We're busted. But something possesses the aliens to stay put while Donatello speaks on the phone.
"Oh, hi April!" Donatello suddenly sounds like he's at an amusement park. "What can I help you with?"
I glance at Raphael. It's not the time to chat. My red brother seems to sense what I'm thinking and elbows Donatello in the arm.
"Ow!" Donatello was jolted back into remembering where he was. His gaze travelled to the enemies hovering over us. "Um, April, this isn't a good time right now," he said quickly. "I'm kind of in the middle of something."
He pauses. "Yeah, I'll contact you later. Bye." And he hangs up.
That's when the Kraang lets out ear-piercing screeches and attacks.
I form my katanas into an 'X' over my head as the aliens come flying down. I feel a weight on my weapons and push upward as hard as I can. Then, I witness my attacker smashing into the ceiling.
I cover my head to protect it from the falling debris. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Michelangelo once again fighting beside Elizabetta. However, I also realize that she isn't trying very much at all.
Elizabetta looks sick again. Her face is a pale green as she swings her dagger at a hovering Kraang. The alien simply dodges and flies at her full-speed. It knocks into her stomach and she falls to the ground with a loud 'thump'.
"Lizzy!" I yell fearfully. I charge at the Kraang who hurt her, slicing my katana through its hovering platform. It shatters all over the floor. The now-defenseless alien lets out a pig-like squeal and scuttles away.
I see Michelangelo checking on Elizabetta, so I decide to go find Donatello. I spot him slowly inching towards the large computer, but he struggles against a wave of Kraang. Raphael is already running to his defense. I follow.
"Got a plan yet, Donnie?" I call to my brother as I chop up two Kraang. I perform a split kick in the air to take out two more.
Donatello has his bo-staff spinning between his fingers. "Other than getting to the computer and searching the documents? No," he replies loudly as he knocks out an alien.
"Well, I've got a plan!" Raphael shouts. He runs straight through the wave of Kraang, stabbing any who get in his way. He makes it to the computer and grabs Stockman by the collar of his shirt, roughly shoving him against a wall. "What did you do to Elizabetta?!" Raphael snarls at him.
I want to hear the answer, but I get bombarded by several Kraang. I fall to my knees as they pile on top of me, suffocating me. My katanas slip out of my hands somewhere outside of the wall of aliens. I reach blindly for them, but it's no use; I'm stuck. I can't move and I can't breathe.
Just as I think I'm doomed, the pressure on me starts disappearing. Once I can breathe again, I roll over and see Michelangelo and Elizabetta hitting the Kraang across the room.
"Fore!" Michelangelo yells as he hits the last Kraang like a golf ball. The alien smacks into a wall and slides to the ground, unconscious.
I laugh. "Nice work, team!" I praise as I high-five them both. I notice that the hand that touched Lizzy's collects blood on it. I gently flip her hand over and see fresh blood dripping out of the cut. It looks worse than it did earlier.
"Before you ask, I'm fine," she says, though the expression on her face claims otherwise.
"Then why do you look ill?" I question, narrowing my eyes.
"I just never expected the Kraang to look so... Gross," she answers quietly as she scratches the back of her head. She seems embarrassed. "They look like something out of Harry Potter."
I'm confused. "What's a hairy potter?" I quiz.
Before Elizabetta can answer, I hear Raphael yelling behind me.
"Stop avoiding the question!" The red-clad turtle has one of his sais pricking Stockman's neck. The man is pinned helplessly against the wall with a stubborn, yet scared, look on his face.
"What question are you speaking of?" The scientist is playing dumb. He smirks evilly at my brother.
"I've already asked you ten times, shell-brain!" Raphael snarls. "What did you inject into Elizabetta?! You have five seconds before my sai 'accidentally' tears your throat open!"
"Cool it, Raph," Donatello calls from his position at the oversized computer. He's pressing several buttons per seconds. "I can find out what his plans are through his data and- Oh no," he mumbles softly.
"What is it, Don?" I make my way over to him and stare at the screen. It looks like some kind of long, rectangular box.
"He locked it with a passcode," Donatello explains.
"Can't you guess what it is?" I suggest.
"I bet the password is 'yo momma'!" Michelangelo announces excitedly. "Because who doesn't love those jokes?"
Stockman speaks up. "One wrong guess, and the data will delete itself!" he yells, almost joyfully. "There's no way you'll get in!"
To my surprise, Donatello smiles. "That's not very bright. If I type in the wrong password and it trashes itself, you'll lose all of your hard work," he tells the scientist.
"I still have several stashes of the serum throughout this building," Stockman replies with another smirk. "All I have to do is find another test subject. Besides-" he sophisticatedly rubs his fingernails on his lab coat- "I've already completed my plan. So, just leave now, and I won't-"
"Got it," Donatello says as the passcode image disappears, and a bunch of strange words fill up the screen. "Mikey was right. It was 'yo momma'."
"Whoa," Raphael murmurs as he looks at the orange-clad turtle. "Either you're just as smart as Stinkman, or you're both idiots."
"IT'S STOCKMAN!" the scientist yells as he starts thrashing against Raphael.
"What can I say?" Michelangelo lifts his head. "I have my moments." He leans back on the control panel and his elbow presses a button. An alarm starts screaming. My youngest brother looks at me with wide, blue eyes and says,
"Uh oh."
On the other side of the room, a large garage door that I didn't notice before rolls open. There stands a fifty feet tall, black spider. Its fangs snap dangerously and its dark, multiple eyes darted wildly around the room.
I heard a high-pitched scream. I look in the direction it comes from and I see Elizabetta. Her face is a ghostly-white color and her legs shake violently. She faints, and she almost hits the ground until Michelangelo swoops in to catch her.
"Lizzy!" I race over to her and check her pulse. It's dull, but it's there.
"What happened to her, dude?!" Michelangelo looks thoroughly confused.
"She must be afraid of spiders," Donatello announces. He hooks his T-Phone up to the large computer. Donatello must see my confused look, because he starts explaining. "I'm going to transfer the Kraang's data onto my phone, that way I can examine it later."
A bar appears on the screen. Below it, it says '5% complete.'
Before I can tell him it will take too long, I look up to see the huge spider towering over me. I didn't notice its approach. Great, a spider that's better at stealth than my team is. This will be fun. Note the sarcasm.
I suddenly hear Raphael yelling, "Get back here, you low-life scum!"
He must have slackened his grip on Stockman, because the scientist is suddenly running for the exit. The red-clad turtle sprints after him, but the scientist has too much of a head start on him.
I take a few steps back as the spider's fangs snap near my face, bringing my attention away from the chase. I swipe at the arthropod's legs with my katanas. It rears back in pain, letting out a weird screech.
"Let him go, Raph!" I yell to my brother as the spider comes crashing down towards me. "We need you here! We have to keep this thing away from Donnie!" As I take another defensive swing at the enemy, Michelangelo appears at my side. To my horror, Elizabetta isn't with him.
"Where's Lizzy?" I ask him, alarmed.
Michelangelo knocks the evil set of fangs away with his spinning nun chucks. "I put her in the corner over there! She can't stand up."
I look passed the orange-clad turtle's shoulder and see that she is, indeed, sitting in a corner. She has her legs pulled to her chest and her face buried in them. Even from there, I can see her shaking violently. I have to get over there and protect her.
"Why can't we just catch a break?!" Raphael complains as he comes to our aid. He jabs both of his sais into the spider's chest. "I swear, it's always one mutant after another."
"Um, guys," Donatello mumbles skeptically. He stares at the computer screen. "This mutant has something strange about it. From these blood records, it seems to have the same DNA as Lizzy."
"Of who now?" Raphael snorts. "You're saying that this ugly freak is a relative of Lizzy? I can't say that I'm surprised. Agh!" he shouts in disgust when the spider shoots a web at him. He rolls away, tangled in sticky string.
I narrowly miss a blow from a spider leg as I race to Raphael's rescue. I free him from the clingy web and curl my lip as I shake it off of my fingers. I help my brother to his feet. "You alright?"
"I'll feel much better after I whip that spider's butt," Raphael responds as he pounds his fists together.
I turn around to have another go at the spider, but to my horror, it doesn't want anything to do with us. It's advancing towards Elizabetta, its fangs gleaming and its many eyes fixated on her.
Elizabetta lets out another scream and shrinks back against the wall. Her green eyes glow with fear; she's traumatized. There's no way she's going to be able to defend herself.
For a moment, the mutant and Elizabetta's eyes seem to meet. Time slows down as her eyes flash with a painful recognition. Her mouth drops open.
"Oh no you don't, Multeye!" Michelangelo yells as he jumps onto the arthropod's back. He uses his nunchunks to whack it in random places.
"Multeye?" Raphael snorts with mock amusement as he follows Michelangelo's lead. "That's the worst pun I've heard all day."
I knock one of Multeye's back legs aside and slide under its belly. The spider rears its head back, and I seize the opportunity to dive back out into the open. I stand directly in front of Elizabetta, my katanas battering with Multeye's fangs.
"We need to get out of here!" I call to my team when I realize the spider mutant isn't losing any energy. It's just getting more and more angry. "Donnie, how much left to download onto your T-Phone?"
"It's at 96%, Captain," Donatello replies promptly. "Just give it another minute and it should be done."
"We're gonna get you out safely, Lizzy," I reassure her without looking at her. If she hears me, she gives no sign of it.
Suddenly, Multeye hooks his fangs around one of my katanas and snags it out of my grip. I jump up to grab it, but the spider throws it right towards Donatello. It barely misses and clatters to the floor beside him.
The purple-clad turtle shoots me an offended look. "Hey!"
"That wasn't me!" I explain quickly, but before I can say anything else, Multeye starts tugging on my remaining katana. I fight back and it becomes a game of tug-o-war; but it isn't very fun.
"Guys, a little help?" I call to Michelangelo and Raphael, who are just getting off of the spider's back. They take up positions on either side of me and we all begin to slowly force Multeye away from Elizabetta.
"Donnie, hurry it up over there!" Raphael pants impatiently. The spider decides it isn't going to be beaten that easily, and it starts to push us back.
"I'm trying," Donatello gasps. "It's almost done. Just give it three more seconds..."
"DONNIE!" Raphael, Michelangelo, and I all yell in unison.
"Ok! I got it!" Donatello unhooks his T-Phone from the oversized computer.
I scoop up Elizabetta, ignoring the pain in my arm wound. It must have started bleeding again. But getting out of here is more important.
"Let me carry her, Leo," Raphael says, eyeing my injured arm. But a spider leg smacking him across the face captures his attention instead. He growls and stabs Multeye, earning a pained screech from it.
"Let's get out of here, dudes!" Michelangelo exclaims as he races for the laboratory door. All of us charge after him, only just managing to avoid Multeye's sharp fangs. I make sure to grab my second katana on the way.
Once we're free, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo slam the huge doors shut. They lock, and the large spider is trapped in the lab, staring pitifully through the windows.
"Aww," Michelangelo coos, petting the glass as if Multeye can feel it. "It's kinda cute. Hey, can I keep it?"
"NO!" the rest of us answer immediately.
