Chapter 2; Leonardo

Song: Feed the Wolf - Breaking Benjamin

Five Kraangdroids surround my brothers and me with laser guns. Their weapons are trained on us as the robots give us monotone stares, their glowing eyes a familiar sight. Too bad it's a sight that I could do without.

"Boxer Stinkman," Raphael sneers at the man in front of us.

Stockman glares at the red-clad turtle. "It's Baxter Stockman!" The man closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and continues. "So, you turtles thought you could sneak in here and halt the project I've been working on?" he questions with an evil smirk on his face. "Well, you aren't very good at stealth."

"Stealth is stupid, anyway!" Michelangelo announces as he jumps to his feet. "We're ninjas. We can take you down anytime!"

"Yeah," Donatello agrees. "You're not as smart as you think you are, Silkmat."

"IT'S STOCKMAN!" The scientist shouts. It must put him over the edge, because he turns to the Kraangdroids and yells, "Seize them!"

The Kraang start shooting, but we're fast. My team and I attack with the speed of ten ninjas. Michelangelo and Donatello each take down a Kraangdroid, while Raphael takes on two by himself. I simply trip the remaining Kraangdroid, stab its face, and launch myself at Stockman. The scientist tries to run, but I grab him by the shirt collar and shove him against a wall to prevent his escape.

"Hurt me, and I'll hurt the girl," Stockman says as his brown eyes flash dangerously.

I stop any thoughts of what I might do to him and look at him questioningly. "What girl?"

The scientist smirks again. "Look behind you."

I turn my head and see something I don't expect; a teenage girl strapped to a large chair. Her brunette hair is messy and drenched in perspiration. Her tan skin isn't much better off, glowing with even more sweat. She is obviously passed out, and I would have presumed her dead if it wasn't for the weak rise and fall of her chest.

In my moment of distraction, something heavy hits me on the side of the head and sends me skidding across the floor. I groan as my twin katanas escape from my grip. A large, dented silver container clatters to the floor beside me and rolls away.

"Ow," I moan and rub my temple. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Stockman racing towards the exit.

"Rest in peace, turtles!" he yells gleefully as he taps a red button on the wall and disappears up the ladder. An alarm starts to sound throughout the whole building. The charging Kraangdroids will hear it, plus any other enemies in the building. Fantastic.

Donatello places his bo-staff back into his sash. "Should we go after him?" he asks me as he helps me to my feet.

"No, leave him. We need to get out of here." I respond as I regain my balance and massage my forehead. That's going to leave a bruise. I retrieve my katanas and put them away. "How long until the charged Kraangdroids come after us?"

"If they're built how I think they are, then they'll be down that ladder in a minute tops," Donatello answers on cue.

"Uh, guys, they might be the last of our problems," Raphael speaks up from the other side of the room. "When Stinkman hit that button, he started a countdown on his computer."

Donatello runs over to the system and stares at the screen. He gasps softly. "It's a bomb. T minus 54 seconds. Let's get out of here!"

"Retreat, team!" I order.

"Wait!"

I turn around to see Michelangelo with the unconscious girl in his arms. He gazes up at me with innocent, blue puppy eyes.

"What are you doing?" I demand.

"We can't just leave her here!" Michelangelo protests. "The Kraang could mutate her into some ugly plant with a flowerpot for a hat."

Donatello intercepts. "How do you know she doesn't work for the Kraang? She could be a decoy with a tracker embedded in her shoulder. Taking her could be exactly what they want so they can find the lair."

"No way!" Michelangelo argues, his blue eyes flashing with a vague hint of irritation.

"Either way, she will slow us down," I point out gently. I can't put my team at risk because of an experimental girl. "We need to get the mutagen and get out. That was the plan."

"She's dead weight," Raphael adds in a gruff manner. "Put her back."

Michelangelo's expression changes to one of pure determination. "I'm not moving unless we bring her with us."

My team suddenly turns to stare at me, waiting for a decision. Time seemed to slow down as my brothers gaze at me expectantly, each one of them trying to persuade me with just an expression. I felt a sudden invisible weight drop onto my back and I say something I will surely regret.

"Fine," I cave. "But she's your problem, Mikey."

"40 seconds, guys," Donatello informs us. The anxiety in his voice betrays his usual confidence.

My team falls into step behind me as we climb the ladder. I stand up to examine the room for anymore Footbots, but that's when I realize something. We didn't collect the mutagen.

"Donnie, you didn't get the mutagen!" I say, turning around to see his head poking out from the floor.

Donatello frowns. "It'll blow up anyway. We can just leave it," he reminds me.

"But what about making retro-mutagen?"

"We will just have to get more mutagen elsewhere," Donatello sighs sadly, his russet eyes sparkling with remorse.

Just then, it happens. Several Kraangdroids explode into the basement. They don't have guns, but there are so many that I know it's still going to be a tough fight.

I look over my shoulder at my team. "Raph, you stay close to Mikey. Don't let them take the girl. Donnie, you and I will make a path through the Kraang so we can escape. Go!"

At my word, we launch ourselves into battle. Raphael takes his position in the back to guard Michelangelo, while Donatello and I begin to lead the way through the sea of Kraangdroids. Donatello and I move as one unit. The Kraangdroids are more powerful than usual, but we still manage to take them down. Droid after droid, we get through the queue and to the top of the staircase.

The alarm is still piercing into my brain as we break through the door labeled 'lobby'. It reminds me that we can get blown up any minute now.

"No sign of that psycho scientist," Raphael points out as he slams the door shut behind us.

"Forget about him. We will find him again," I say, glancing at my youngest brother instead. "Mikey, how are you holding up?"

I never get an answer. A dozen Footbots jump out of the shadows and attack us, their weapons and mechanical eyes blazing.

"Ambush!" Raphael snarls with a smirk on his face. "Just what I needed." His sais instantly find their way into a Footbot's face.

I take down the only two Footbots standing in our way at the building exit. "We don't have time to take them all on, Raph! We need to go!"

Raphael glares at me. He seems to sway slightly as if he's going to defy my word, but then he complies. "Fine," he grunts. Then he spins and runs for the exit, the rest of us hot on his trail.

Once I am outside, I feel my feet lift off the ground as the building blows up behind me. I somersault across the road until I come to a stop on my stomach. I cover my head to protect it from the falling debris, feeling the rumble of the ground below me. After several moments of silence, I uncover my head and look around.

"Is everyone alright?" I call to my brothers, who are spread out around me.

"A few cuts, but I'm good," Donatello says swiftly. Raphael simply nods once.

"Mikey?" I ask. I notice he hasn't let the teenage girl slide from his arms at all.

"I'm great!" he says happily. "I just don't know about her." He nods to the girl. She is still unconscious.

The more I look at her, the more I'm not sure we did the right thing in saving her. I've just put my team- no, my brothers- in danger because of what Stockman might have done to her. And they are still in trouble because I know for certain he will try to take her back.

But there's no turning back now. The best thing we can do for her, and Michelangelo, is to figure out what happened to her and try to fix it.

"Come on," I say. "Let's go home."

As we start our trek across the rooftops, Donatello turns his attention to Michelangelo. "Now, about that T-Phone abuse problem you have developed..."

"I'll stop beating it up once you've fixed my games, dude!" Michelangelo replies immediately.

They continue to bicker the rest of the way to the lair, much to my annoyance and Raphael's amusement.
