59. The Breaking; Elizabetta

Song: Haunted - Taylor Swift

Though I'm still weak after fainting, my rage gives me energy. I want to end this madness in me, this freakshow, this... This circus for a psycho! And I don't care if I die trying. As long as my friends stay out of harm's way, I will do whatever it takes to end my father's plans.

But first, I have to stop Stockman. Whatever he forced my subconscious to collect in that tube could potentially be the end of the world.

Leonardo and I race out of the bright room and plunge into darkness. His brothers, Master Splinter,!Edmund, and April follow us promptly, each ready for a fight. We all fan out into a line and scan the dark room with narrowed eyes.

"Show yourself, bug!" Raphael snarls from beside me.

"Fools-zzz!" Stockman's fly voice bounces off the walls, surrounding us. "You really think she is-zzz the only one infected? You are more naïve then I first per-zzz-ceived! And to think I had hope for the zzz-smart one."

Leonardo takes a step back, looking around to pinpoint the sound as he leans close to Donatello. "What is he talking about?" he asks softly.

"I don't know," Donatello admits quietly. "None of the rest of us got injected with-" His sentence breaks off and his red eyes widen with fear. "Oh no."

I follow his gaze and see him staring at my brother. Edmund's eyes are rolled back into his head, exposing only whiteness. His mouth seems to be glued shut and his muscles are tensed, like he's about to attack.

My heart aches. My brother was experimented on, too!

Stockman's voice rings out again. "I-zzz-sn't he glorious-zzz? His-zzz injection was-zzz enhanced to manipulate the whole body, as-zzz well as his-zzz mind. He is-zzz utterly and ab-zzz-solutely under my zzz-serum's command."

Donatello visibly gulps. "And, uh, what exactly did you program him to do?" he asks hesitantly, as if he isn't sure he wants to know.

"Originally, he was-zzz ordered to ju-zzz-st take down Elizabetta after she killed you turtles-zzz off," Stockman explains. "But now I gue-zzz-ss only she will die. No matter." Through the darkness, I can just see him make a commanding hand gesture. "I will leave the re-zzz-st of the killing to my Footbots. Good-bye, turtles-zzz!" He buzzes away into the blackness, his evil laughter fading.

Barely a few feet away, a huge hoard of Footbots approach us.  Their mechanical eyes are illuminated, glaring at us. I may be mistaking, but they seemed to be more powered up than the last time I saw them.

All I feel is horror. My brother, practically the only family I have left, is on the enemy's side. I can't let Stockman take him from me. I just got him back!

"Ed," I say softly, walking towards him slowly. "Please. You're my brother. Come back."

My brother just stares unseeingly at me. He doesn't respond, or even acknowledge that he hears me.

"Ed, please!" I beg, growing desperate. "Don't let Stockman do this to you. Don't leave me, not again!"

I take another step towards him, but it's a mistake. My possessed brother takes advantage of my weakness and grabs my arm tightly. He flips me onto my back and slips one of my daggers out of its sheathe.

I don't want to hurt my brother. I can't. We've always been there to protect each other, and now I'm supposed to do the opposite of that?

Somewhere in my mind, I know it isn't really him. He's being controlled by a serum. And the serum is ordered to kill me. It's either fight or die.

I choose to fight.

Quick as a flash of lightning, I whip out my second dagger. I slice it lightly across my brother's wrist, just enough to get him to release me. It works, and I jump to my feet to face him.

He throws a punch at me. I dodge and curve behind him. I barely get out of the way in time as he retaliates with a kick.

I keep dodging blow after blow. We battle with our daggers colliding every two seconds. I manage to protect myself from the worst of the fight, but he's so fast; much faster than I've ever seen. It's like the drug gave him new skills, or it uncovered his hidden talents.

I can hear yells of distress coming from the turtles. They're battling the flood of Footbots, and obviously having a hard time with it. I long to go over and help them, but I can't with Edmund on my tail.

"You... Have... To stop!" I gasp breathlessly at my brother as I duck under another deadly swing. "I can't... Fight you! You're my brother!"

Edmund continues to give me the silent treatment. With every move his efforts become stronger, more focused. The longer he's possessed, the more powerful he becomes.

"Ed!" I scream in a last attempt to snap him out of it. In the process, his dagger manages to catch the corner of my mouth and rip it partially open.

Gasping in pain, I turn my back on him. I feel blood dripping down my chin, and the tang of blood taints my tongue.

I realize that this battle with him will never end. He won't stop attacking me until I am exterminated. He has an order and he is programmed to carry it out.

It doesn't help that I am afraid to touch him. He's my own flesh and blood. Hurting him could have serious consequences, either for him or for my guilty conscious.

I shout in rage as Edmund slices my shoulder. Blood soaks my shirt and a stinging sensation accompanies it. I an going to have to hurt him; I have no choice.

"Forgive me," I whisper as I spin around. I start to fight mercilessly, using the moves Leonardo taught me. I stay balanced on one leg as I deal a swift kick at him. I catch the side of Edmund's head and he stumbles sideways. I throw a punch at his other side, hearing his nose break. Blood seeps down his face and covers his unused mouth.

Guilty, I let my guard down for a few seconds. I just broke my own brother's nose. I'm a horrible person.

He immediately attacks again while I an distracted. He knocks my legs out from under me and I collapse on the ground, groaning in agony.

My moan turns into a horrified scream, however, as he swings my own weapon towards my throat.
