Uncomfortable Introductions

As the other groups chatted amongst themselves about how they were going to escape or what they were going to tell their parents, my group continued on in dead silence.

"My name's Ryker"

Ryker finally breathed. He wasn't sure what he was suppose to say but the fact that there was something other than an awkward silence took the heavy weight off of my shoulders.

"I'm Blythe"

I chimed in. I didn't want him to feel alone and, to be honest, I really had to say something or else I'd probably go crazy. Listening to Remi and Nym's group gossip about Cyra and Titus was driving me insane. It was as if they were discussing a book or movie they had recently come across, too casual for it to be real. Maybe they didn't want to believe that it was real. I knew that I didn't.

"I'm.. I'm Arden"

She slowly slipped out of my hand and stood up straighter. Arden had probably gained confidence knowing that we weren't all going to beat her. She timidly smiled at Ryker and myself as we all waited for Dimitri to talk.

"Really? Fine, I'll play along. Hi new best friends, I'm Dimitri, lovely being here in this prison with a murderer head teacher"

He raised his thick brown eyebrows and sarcastically smiled. It was the type of smile that someone would get punched in the face because of. I was pretty surprised that Ryker didn't punch him seeing as he clenched his fists almost immediately after he saw Dimitri was in our group.

"Does anyone have any hobbies? Any thing they're good at?"

Ryker continued, ignoring Dimitri's rude response. I honestly don't think I am going to enjoy Dimitri's presence very much. Especially if he's going to be as inconsiderate and obnoxious as he was being now.

"Anything I'm good at? Why don't you ask Alexis?"

Dimitri winked and made a face, but I don't think Arden understood what he crudely meant. I looked over at Ryker who rolled his eyes again, in defeat.

"Chill Rye. I'm just trying to lighten the mood, you know, seeing as everyone watched someone die"

Dimitri held up his hands beside his head and stepped backwards. The way he called Ryker Rye, made me wonder if they knew each other. Maybe they had a fall out before we were sorted out into these groups. I wonder what they had an argument about.

"Did you know Cyra?"

Arden asked me. Suddenly this was the topic of discussion and it made me feel sick. I couldn't just ignore her, since everyone was now looking at me.

"Yeah I did. She was one of my close friends"

I consciously gagged at the word close. Sure, me and Cyra had an argument or two.. or eight, was she really my 'close' friend? What even was a close friend?

"That really fricking sucks Blythe. I'm super sorry"

Ryker moved closer to me trying to comfort me. I wanted to shove him away, but it made me feel better knowing that not all boys were Dimitri. Ryker knew Cyra too, better than he knew me since Nym and Cyra were always together and were best friends.

"That psycho teacher is such a sick man"

Dimitri growled as he gritted his crooked white teeth. He banged his fist onto the stage behind us. I quickly looked down at the floor, not wanting to annoy Dimitri any more than he already was. And also not wanting to see the many sets of curious and judging eyes that began to stare at us.

"Don't call him sick. That makes it sound like there's a cure"

I mumbled, eyes locked on the silver lining which ran along the stage.

"I can't believe he did that"

Arden agreed. I nodded, because it was true. How can someone one day be so calm and kind and then the next, beat an innocent child to death? It didn't make any sense. Nothing was making any goddamn sense.

"Do you know why?"

Ryker asked me. I think he expected some elaborate explanation leading up to Mr.Joels breaking point. The others beamed at me, waiting for the story.

"No, I wish I did. But, from what I know, Cyra didn't do anything wrong"

A disappointing sigh escaped his lips. I think he wanted to blame Cyra, so that her death at least had justice. But, there wasn't an explicit reason to what happened.

"Maybe we should call 999?"

Arden said innocently. I lifted my head up and locked eyes with everyone else in the group. They didn't seem so keen.

"That's not a bad idea"

We all huddled closer together. Nobody outside of the Venus group took interest in the plan we were developing, they all just continued to chat anxiously in their groups.

"Other people have tried before, it won't work"

Dimitri whispered. I nodded, hoping someone else would have another idea.

"We could run away?"

Arden suggested again. We were all silently beginning to consider how we were going to get out of the school when Ryker violently shook his head, pointing at Mr.Joel who was stood on the stage.

"He has his goons surrounding the entire place. No exits, no entrances"

I ran my fingers through my hair, contemplating all of the possible plans that might work. And that's when an alarm began to siren.
