Lockdown: Part One
"What the hell is that?"
Dimitri roared over the sound of the blaring alarm. I shrugged my shoulders, pushing my hands tightly over my ears. At first, I had thought the sound was merely a fire alarm. But, it soon became clear that what we were hearing, was actually a lockdown alarm. The school was going into lockdown.
"Guys! Come on!"
Ryker shouted at us. I went to launch myself towards them when other students began shoving each other, knocking me further away from my group.
"Ryker! Dimitri! Arden!"
My vision blurred black as more and more people pulled and pushed me around. I kept my arms wrapped around my head as I sank into the ground, cowering in the furthest corner. I squeezed my burning eyes shut, completely shrivelling up.
I was waiting for it all to be over, for me to wake up.
Suddenly, someone grabbed hold of my arm and was now leading me through the screaming crowd of uncontrollable children. I barely lifted my feet off of the ground, confused and frightened.
"Where did you go?"
They yelled, it was Dimitri. I stuttered, unable to find the right words to say.
"I was pushed"
He didn't reply. Soon enough, I was back with the rest of the Venus group. They were sat on top of the stage, watching the students run around wildly. Arden jumped up when she laid eyes on me, instantly hugging my body.
"I thought you left without us!"
She grinned warmly. I nodded comfortingly at her, soon turning my attention to Ryker. He stood up to greet me, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
"We were pretty scared"
He admitted as he made room for me next to him. We all sat together, pondering what on Earth the alarm was for. Dimitri thought that it was to let the police know we were in danger, like a panic button. I prayed that it was.
The hall eventually settled down. Everyone was huddled in their groups of four, cotton blankets wrapped around their shoulders. Mr.Joel had turned off the alarm and sent for more teachers to sort out the unruly students in the hall. Nobody knew where he had gone in the time it took to shut us all up. He merely disappeared and reappeared when we were silent.
"Take no notice to that alarm"
He instructed. I raised my eyebrow, expecting him to explain why there was an alarm and why we were now on lockdown.
"I've informed your parents about the lockdown. They know that you'll be spending the night"
I dropped my jaw, feeling tears burn in my eyes. We weren't allowed to leave the school until late tomorrow. What then? He'll just find another way to keep us from telling the outside world about what was happening. He was evil, pure evil.
"You can't do that! You have to let us go! We have to go home!"
A girl yelped. I instantly stood up, my eyes worriedly searching the room for who had said it. It was Nym.
"Excuse me?"
Mr.Joel said as he walked casually over towards her trembling group. Remi clutched firmly on to Nyms shaking arm, not wanting to lose another one of her friends. As soon as Mr.Joel took out the metre stick he had used on Cyra, a rush of adrenaline pumped through my body. I bolted off stage, running straight for Nyms group. The girls began screaming, trying their hardest to shuffle away.
"Stop it!"
I heard Remi yelp. My heart pounded out of my chest, sweat dripped down my forehead. He was hurting them. He was hurting Remi.
Ryker shot up, knocking Arden off of the stage. He didn't hesitate though, he ran straight past me and to Nym. He was angrily shouting, punching his fist around carelessly. I now chased after him.
Dimitri determinedly held my arms behind my back as he dragged me away from Nym and Remi. I aggressively struggled to fight him off. They both pleadingly watched me, begging for my help. I couldn't help them. I couldn't.
"Stop! Stop it! It wasn't her fault! It was me! Take me!"
I screamed, each word ripping through my throat. Tears streamed down my face. It seemed like an eternity before Dimitri let me go.
"Leave them alone! Leave them alone! Please! Stop it!"
Mr.Joel loudly ordered two of the teachers to drag out Remi and Nym. I barely caught a glimpse of them as they were taken away. But when I saw them, I wished I hadn't. They were both covered in dark, purple bruises and blood.
