"She's beautiful, but...is she dangerous?" Arella asked Azar from her bed, cradling the baby in her arms.

"Very. We will need to raise her and teach her right." He answered.

"May I help? She is my daughter." Arella stated.

"You may. But first we will look into her future to see what she will hold for us all." Azar explained. "Monks! Gather 'round!"

They all chanted repeatedly in synch until an image appeared above the newborn baby's head. The young child looked around in curiosity at the tall, cloaked men encircling her and her mother.

They all stared at the image adamantly. It showed a teenaged girl with purple hair, opening a portal to let Trigon out of his inter-dimensional prison and into the real world. He destroyed countless universes by engulfing them in flames and lava.

The image faded away, leaving Arella in shock and Azar in a thinking pose.

"We should have known." He shook his head. "This is his job, to make offspring to aid him." Azar said in an upset tone.

"Azar, what was that?" Arella asked nervously.

"This baby is the gem Arella." Arella gasped as she held her newborn baby tightly to her chest. The baby cooed as she did so. "We must begin her training as soon as she is old enough." Azar continued.

"Miss Arella, I hope this is not a bad time to ask, but what is the child's name?" A monk asked Arella placing his hand on her shoulder.

"Yes Arella, have you come up with a name?" another monk chimed in.

"I have decided on...Raven." Arella announced slowly. The baby laughed which in turn made Arella smile.

"She seems to like it." One monk replied jokingly.

"Interesting. They are some of the smartest birds are they not?" Another monk asked.

"That's exactly it." She stared into the small child's violet eyes. "She's my smart little Raven."

---------------

5 Years Later....

Raven was in the flower garden in the back of her home on Azarath, giggling and enjoying the smell as she always does, not realizing that every time she laughs a flower is yanked up from the ground and thrown across the yard by dark energy. Raven picked up a purple flower and threaded it into her white cloak.

Azar stood at the gate watching flowers being flung everywhere. He took a long sigh.

It was time.

"Raven." He called.

"Oh! Mr. Azar. I didn't see you!" Raven spoke with sheer glee in her voice. She almost took off Azar's head with a fence post. "Oops! Sorry Mr Azar!" She apologized.

"It's ok little one. Where is your mother?" He asked.

"Mother? She is inside. She told me to expect you." Raven said.

"I figured." He picked Raven up and walked toward the house. A giant clump of dirt fell in front of them. Azar simply walked around it and walked into the house.

"Hi Mother!" Raven greeted.

"Hello Raven! Azar." Arella greeted, loosing the smile when she saw Azar.

"What's wrong Mother?" Raven was genuinely confused. Usually Arella was happy when Azar was around. Why is today any different?

"Please sit down Raven." She instructed. Raven did as she was told and sat in her normal chair across from Arella. Azar sat next to Arella.

"Raven, have you ever wondered why you make things fly about all the time?" Azar asked.

"Yes. Many times. But when I ask mother about it she told my that its not me. But I feel like it is." Azar gave Arella an aggressive side look from the corner of his eyes.

"Well, contrary to what your mother wants you to believe, it is you. It is because you are so happy all the time."

"Mother says being happy is a good thing!" Raven said and smiled. Something fell in the bedroom. "Oops..."

"Raven, in all seriousness, you have to keep that happiness to a minimum." Azar said abruptly, staring to get frustrated with the young child.

"Sorry. Wait, are you saying I can't be happy anymore Mr. Azar?"

"No. You can still be happy, just don't show it as much." He said.

"Why?"

"Because you are very powerful Dear. You have magical powers and they are connected to your emotions. Too much emotion, and they get out." Arella explained.

"Really? But I don't know how to stop being happy." Raven said sadly.

"You don't have to stop being happy," Azar started.

"You just need to suppress your emotions. It's for your and the people around you's safety." Arella finished.

"Oh...Ok. Then, when do I, start practicing this?" Raven asked reluctantly. Raven knew what she had to do, even though she didn't want to, she didn't want to hurt anybody.

"Tomorrow. Goodbye Raven." Azar stated bluntly. He walked out the door.

"Are you ok dear?" Arella asked when she noticed Raven looked sad.

"Yes Mother." She said as she pulled her hood up over her head and sulked back to her room.

Arella was shocked, at this point, was the first time she had actually pulled that hood over her head since it was given to her by Azar at the age of two. She never even have the hood a second glance. She always wanted to show her face and for her big smile to be well known. But after that talk, that part of her life had come to a close.

-------------------

Azar taught Raven how to meditate, which suppressed her feelings and over time, caused her to be less outgoing as she aged. Arella noticed that her happy little Raven began to be a lot more flat and monotone about everything. Her smile slowly faded away and the hood became more apparent outside and inside the house.

She got into reading books and she became even more secluded in her room. She even got rid of the white cloak and leotard for a blueish-purple cloak and black leotard. Which saddened her mother even more. Raven knew it, but it's what she had to do.

He started teaching her spells at the age of nine, and on her tenth birthday, she was introduced to her own emotions.

-----------------

5 Years Later....

"Azar, why are you giving me this mirror? I'm not one to freshen up." She said emptily.

"This mirror is a portal to your mind Raven. It will allow you to converse with your emotions and solve any emotional turmoil you might ever run into." Azar explained.

"Cool." Raven said simply.

"Would you like to try it out?"

"Sure. How do I use it?"

"Look into the mirror, say your name, and then chant the words." Azar instructed.

"Ok." She stared into the mysterious looking hand mirror. "Raven." As soon as she said her name the mirror glowed with 4 red eyes. Raven gasped, but then got a grip and said her magic words.

"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" She and Azar were immediately teleported into a desolate land with black and red skies and what appeared to be an eclipsed red sun. "Woah. Is this my mind?" Raven asked slightly distraught about how dark and dismal it looked.

"Yes Raven. Now let's go meet everybody." He said and walked down the trail.

"Everybody? Who else is in here?" Raven asked, confused. Azar ignored her question. They got to a stone arch.

"This is the forbidden gate. This is where you will find most of them."

"Them?" As they stepped through the landscape changed into a library. Then out of nowhere another girl in a cloak came it from behind the stacks. She had glasses and her cloak was yellow. "Who are you?" Raven asked the girl.

"I'm you." she said. She pulled down her hood and revealed a face identical to Raven's only with round glasses. "Well, almost. I'm your knowledge."

"Oh. So my emotions are, 'them'." Raven finally figured it out.

"Yes. But I am warning you, the others in here are not all as calm as I am. I look on the logical side of everything while the others...elude me." That's all she said and then disappeared behind the stacks just as she appeared.

"Umm, ok." Raven kept walking. "Where to now?" She asked Azar.

"Follow the forbidden gates until you get to the one that looks like you. I'll be back then." He explained.

"Oh. Ok. Wait...what?" Before Raven could ask any questions Azar was gone. "Ok then."

She continued on through the library until she found another forbidden gate. I wonder which emotion will be behind here. Raven thought.

As she stepped through the landscape changed again to the old reddish-black sky, except this time, she was in the middle of a concrete maze.

"Hello?!" She called.

"Hi." Raven heard a faint hi come from behind a wall.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" She called again.

"I am." A girl came out from behind a wall with her hood off looking scared.

"Hello. I guess you're my timidity?" Timid nodded. "So do you know how to get out of here?" Raven asked her. Timid nodded again.
"Follow me. But when we get to the end, you may want to leave." She said quietly. The young Raven followed her shy emotion through the maze.

"Why?" Timid didn't answer her.

"We're here." She said. At the end of the maze, there were two snake statues.

"So why did you say I would want to-" Raven was cut off when the snakes started moving and lunged at her. Raven moved around and dodged it's attacks. "Hey! Can you help me?" Raven called out to timidity, but when she looked, she was gone.

Okay, Azar said my first battle would come soon. Remember your training. Raven thought.

Azar had taught her how to levitate and do magic attacks, but she had never used it before. She was too afraid that she would mess it up. Raven concentrated on her lifting her feet off the ground.

"Azarath...Metrion...Zinthos!!" She was levitating, for the first time outside of Azar's classroom! "Uh! Ok, let's try this! Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" She shot a beam of her dark energy at the snakes and blew them to bits.

"Nice job!!" A voice called out. Raven lowered herself to the ground.

"Who is there?" Raven said ready to fight.

"Relax girl! It's just me!" A gruff version of Raven's voice called out as she stepped out of the shadows. She wore a dark green cloak. "That felt great! You just kicked me into overdrive!" She yelled.
"Oh, yeah..." Raven said bashfully. "I'm going to take a guess and say you're my bravery."

"You're right about that one!" Raven sighed. She didn't realize she was so complex.

--------------------

Before reaching the last Forbidden gate, Raven met Happy, who wore pink and acted like Raven did when she was five.

Lazy, who wore orange and didn't feel like talking much.

Sloth, who wore brown and was in a garbage dump (which disgusted Raven that that was a part of her personality).

And Passion, who wore a vibrant purple and always talked about boys Raven thought were cute around Azarath, which embarrassed Raven so much that she simply had to leave.

When she got to the final gate that looked like her she waited for Azar.

"Go in." Azar said as he popped up behind her.

"Ahh! Don't do that Azar!" Raven said angrily.

"Anger." He said.

"Yeah, what about it?"

"Raven, what your about to see on the other side of this gate will scare you, I'm sure. I will explain everything when we get back to the classroom."

"But–" He lead her in without letting her ask any questions. When they walked trough, the landscape turned into flames and lava. They were standing on a floe and floated along a river of lava.

At the end of the river, there was a figure.

"Azar, who is that?" Raven asked.

"Be patient child."

When they finally got close to the figure, she turned around to reveal that she was another one of Raven's emotions. She was wearing a red cloak and had four red eyes.

"Who are you?" Raven asked.

"I am your rage. Your anger, and your frustration, and, your father." She pulled down her hood to show that the top two eyes were where Raven's eyebrows were supposed to be.

"My...father?" She asked. She looked down at her feet in confusion. "But...Arella said he died soon after I was born..."

"Well she LIED." Rage said abruptly lifting Raven's chin up. Rage then turned into a giant demon.

"Hello Raven." He said in a loud, deep voice. Raven knew who this was. She had read so many books about him and heard countless stories. "I am Trigon. Your father." He said.

Raven was about to break out in tears. She went to hug Azar. When she did, they were back in his classroom.

She immediately let him go when she realized she was back in the real world.

"How did you not tell me I am Trigon's DAUGHTER?!" Raven raged. She knew she shouldn't, but she couldn't help it.

"Calm down Raven. I planned this. I will explain. Your mother only lied to you to protect you until now." Raven took some deep breaths.

"Fine. Well, what am I supposed to do? Trigon's offspring are only made for some sort of purpose. What's he going to use me for?" Raven asked.

"He is going to take over the universe, and you will be his portal." Raven just stood there. Processing all of this. Raven walked away and casted a teleporting spell on herself and teleported herself home.

"Hello Raven! How was your day?" When Arella spoke, it filled Raven with so much anger she felt like smashing the mirror over her head, but she managed to keep her cool.

"Filled with lies and deception." She said irritated. Arella didn't get this until she saw the mirror in Raven's hand.

"Oh Raven, I-" Raven cut her off.

"Save it Arella." Raven shut her down and flew upstairs.

--------------------

Raven didn't talk to Arella for the next 3 weeks.   She kept training with Azar until she turned 16, then it was time for her to go.

6 Years Later...

"Raven!" Arella called.

"Yes mother?" Raven answered from upstairs.

"Azar is here!" At this point, Azar never visited them unless something bad was happening. Raven teleported downstairs.

"Yes Azar?"

"I need to talk with you both." They all sat down.

"The monks have sensed something in Trigon's Prison." Both of the ladies' eyes went wide. "They say he has been trying to contact Raven. Raven, have you been having any weird dreams lately?"

"Yes." The two answered almost instantly.

"He tries to talk to me every night. He says stuff like, 'Release me' and 'Ignore them'. But I keep mentally blocking him out." Raven said.

"She has been tossing and turning in her bed, and waking up in the middle of the night, at times, unable to get back to sleep." Arella added.

"Just as I feared. Arella, we need to send Raven somewhere else." He said.

"What?!" Arella's scream startled everyone. "Where do you plan on sending her?!"

"The monks and I discussed it, and we think she should go to earth."

"Earth?!" Any more screams and Raven would end up def.

"Calm down mother." Raven consoled. "It's fine. I will do what I have to do to keep Azarath safe." Raven said. Arella let out a long sigh.

"Fine." She said under her breath.

"We will start preparations immediately." Azar said. "See you tomorrow. You should say your goodbyes and pack now."

Then he walked out. Arella ran into her room crying. Raven wanted to console her, but she though that would just make it worse. So she headed upstairs and put all of her magical artifacts, some important spell books, clothes, and her mirror in a pile on the floor and cast a condensing spell. They all went into the gem on her cloak.

Raven didn't really have any friends on Azarath, except for one. A girl named Petra. She liked books as well, but didn't make a strong connection with her in fear that she would hurt her.

She did make her rounds and said goodbye to friends of her mom and the monks that raised her. They were her family.

The next day Raven barely was able to get Arella out of the house. They headed to Gammot's Edge where all the inter-dimensional portals were. She stood on the portal and crossed her legs while levitating herself.

"Raven, I want you to have this." Azar said. Raven opened one eye. He held a book.

"Your book. You want me to keep it?" Raven was shocked. Azar wrote his notes in there and it held very powerful spells within it. He never let anybody look in it.

"I trust you Raven." She took the book.

"Thank you. I will keep it safe." She promised. He stepped back.

"Goodbye." He whispered. Raven cast the condensing spell on it and it went into her cloak's gem like all her other things.

The monks chanted and then the portal to earth appeared. Raven got one last good look at her mother before leaving for earth.

---------------------

When Raven got to Earth she landed in the outskirts of a west coast US city called Jump City. It was night time so she walked into the town to find some sort of shelter.

She saw a bright streak of green light shoot from the sky and landed with a bang in what seemed to be downtown. She flew over there and hid in an alley. When the smoke cleared an orange girl with red hair and handcuffs appeared. She ran around yelling in a language Raven knew was alien.

Others ran from her as she pleaded for them to take off the restraints, but nobody understood her.

Then, a staff wielding teenage boy, about Raven's height and age, came and attacked the girl. Raven stood and watched as the boy get beaten as the girl still tried to remove her restraints by bashing them into things.

She saw two other figures watching as well. A large person in a hoodie and a young boy in tights and a stupid mask with green skin. Raven could tell he was from a superhero group called the Doom Patrol. They had been talked about widely on Azarath.

Raven was reluctant to come out at first, but then came out to tell the struggling teens that the alien girl was trying to remove her restraints.

Later these 5 teens became Raven's best friends, and they were all each other's family.
