Kris

I woke with a start and quickly sat up, bringing a sharp aching pain. I looked around at the eerily clean white room around me. A soft beeping could be heard from beside me. I lifted my hand to move the hair out of my eyes but found myself only able to move it so far. I looked down and saw an IV attached to my am. I was in a hospital. Just then, a nurse walked in.

"How are you doing?" he asked.

"I need to get out of here, now," I responded.

"Now now, that was a very hard fall you took yesterday, you need to have some tests done before you can even think about leaving."

Yesterday... Yesterday!? That means... The deadline...

It ends tomorrow.

"You don't understand, I need to leave."

"No, you don't understand. We cannot let you leave until we're sure that you're healthy!"

I gave in. "How long will this take?"

"A few hours."

"A few hours!? I have to get back to Hometown before tomorrow! I don't have that kind of time!"

"Well, that's too bad, isn't it?"

"Look, asshole, I need to get back there as quickly as possible, I have an important deadline and if I don't get back there by the end of it, I'll- I can't even describe what will happen!"

There was a crash from one of the side rooms, and someone ran into the room. I recognized him immediately.

Sans!?

"the xray machine is broken, we can't finish the tests here," he said.

"Who are you?" the nurse asked.

"doctor adam dayes, i'm a stand in for one of the others here. i work at hometown hospital," Sans said without a second thought.

"Well what are we supposed to do?"

"i'll take the kid. i'll bring them to my office back in hometown and run all the tests there."

"Alright, what about the other one?"

"it's a much smaller hospital, we don't have enough equipment there to take her. and anyway, she already had tests done."

The nurse sighed. "Well kid, you're in luck. Dr Bones here is gonna take you exactly where you wanted to go , convenient as it is."

"hey pal? it's dr dayes, not dr bones. that's rude and I could get you fired for that."

"Whatever, asshole."

...

My hospital bed was wheeled into the back of an ambulance. Sans sat in the driver's seat and drove for a block or two until he pulled into an abandoned parking lot. He climbed out into the back and glared at me.

"what the hell happened!? where were you!?"

"Look, it's a long ass story, get this stuff off of me and I'll explain the whole thing." Sans installed me from the bed and removed my IV, and I climbed in the passenger side.

Sans kept the siren on so that we could avoid traffic, and I explained the situation I had been in for the last few days. He grumbled something about "this god damned cursed world" and sighed.

"you're lucky i was able to find you. welp, it's going to be a long trip home, so get comfy."
