Chapter 10

I stared after Noelle, but still I had no words. There was no sense in trying to stop her if I had nothing to say, so I let her go. I stood in shock, staring ahead at nothing and everything all at once.

This world was fucked.

All these people- everyone I've ever met- they were all different. They were tortured. They were broken. They were wrong.

That was the thing about this world. It was cruel. Maybe I had just messed everything up by coming, but it seemed like it had always been like this. Even though it seemed everyone had the one thing they wanted most, they weren't happy.

Noelle had Susie. They were in a relationship, but it wasn't healthy. She had been traumatized as a child, and hadn't made much of a recovery.

Susie had friends. Nobody was afraid of her. People talked to her and cared for her, but she was in a toxic relationship. She was being abused every day, and could never truly feel safe around her girlfriend, even if she loved her.

Everyone had what they wanted, but they paid a great price to get it. This world was one of karma. If you took, something would be taken from you.

Hell.

The only way I could accurately describe this world. Everything was wrong. Everyone was miserable. This place was cursed, a torture for every inhabitant until the sweet release of death.
