9: The Red Start

*Missy's pov*

I walked into office not thinking we had a case right away. I stepped into the room and Lisbon gave me a piece of paper and told me to come on. I looked down at it and sighed. Another day at the office I suppose.

I followed her and she drove us to this strange house. The door was rusty, the paint was peeling, and all the plants and grass were died or dying. I didn't think anyone would live in this run down place, but when Lisbon opened the door, I saw that someone had been living here. That person was either gone her lying dead on the floor. The man was bald, and a scar on his lips. I didn't know the eye color until I looked at the picture on the paper. The name of the rouge looking man was Logan Pines, and he looked happy in the picture. I walked over to his body and saw where the bullet hit him, right in the heart. It wasn't a very pretty sight.

"He lived here?" I asked Lisbon who nodded.

"Didn't have a high paying job, but he still saw through and seemed to enjoy it here," she told me, and I could tell she was right. The place on the outside was a total mess, but the inside looked even nicer than my home.

"Did he have any friends or family?" I asked.

"None, besides the few people he talked to at work."

"Poor guy," I said kneeling beside him, and I saw something in his pocket. He was wearing a nice suit, almost like he was going out to somewhere fancy, or maybe to a job. I put on my gloves and pulled out a gold ring that had blood on it, but I whipped some on a napkin for farther look at, and saw the ring's gold was real.

"What is that?" Lisbon asked. We were the only people in the room. The others were not here or were looking outside. I think Cho and Rigsby were not here yet, but VanPelt and Patrick were there.

"It's a gold ring," I told her giving her the ring and looked for anything else. I found a silver watch, a bronze coin, and a few other small but valuable objects. "Why did he have all this?"

"Don't know, but that is what we have to find out," Lisbon told me and put all the things I found in bags. There were six in total, and all worth a lot of money.

"Do you think he found them in this house or someplace?"

"Maybe. It's hard to tell. What do you think he was doing with them."

"He might have found them and wanted to make extra money. He also might have been trying to find who they belong to and give them back. Either way, he had these things, and they might have been missing."

"Good thinking. I'm going to cheek on the others. Keep looking around for anything you can find."

"Yes boss."

Lisbon walked out the door, leaving me with Mr. Jewel Finder. I walked over to a picture and looked at it. The painting showed a small village that was brightly light while the world around it was dark. There was a man on a horse ridding through town, and I knew the painting. It was The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere by Grant Wood. I also saw that is was one of the many that was not real, but sold for people to have around their house. But this painting looked like something was behind it, and I laughed when I thought this. Like there was anything under the picture, it was just there, and probably just hiding a chip in the paint like some of my photos did. Just to show myself that nothing was in here, I moved the picture out of the way. I gasped when behind the famous painting was a safe.

I looked at the number lock, and then heard someone behind me. I turned and saw no one there, save my own shadow. Come on Missy, I thought, get a hold of yourself. This isn't a movie, no one is going to come hit you upside the head till you pass out so they can see inside the safe. I smiled at the thought and looked at the numbers. I pressed some of the buttons, and heard the safe open. I pulled the door away, and heard that some person move. I looked again, but there was no one there.

"Lisbon?" I called, not knowing if she was in here or not. "VanPelt? Patrick?" No answer from them. My nerves must be getting to me. I looked inside the safe, but all I saw was a note. I picked it up and read it. Nothing too big, but the ending caught my eye.

If you find this, than I am dead. I know a secret too big that the person might come for me. He's crazy, and he steels things from people; people who have more then him. I want to make things right and give back the six things he gave me, but I don't know how. Please return them to the owners, and thank you for finding the note before he did.

I stared at the note for a while. I looked in the safe again, but their was nothing else. Just this note. I looked at the man who had wrote it. He just wanted to make things right. But who was this person who wanted to kill Logan? What else did he steal, and why? I didn't have any answers, but I was going to find them, and help the people Logan was trying to help.

Hey oh! Note to self never say that again. Anyway, I would like to say that this book will not have has many chapters has the last one. In fact, we are coming close to the end. Sadness, but do not worry your pretty little minds about the good o' Janes. They have one more tale in the R trilogy, Remembering Red. Yet this time the kids will be taking over. That is all I am going to say. Hope you all like it, you can see the painting Missy was looking at to the side. Peace out my Stars!
