Chapter 3

Alex and Henry weren't sure how any of this was true, let alone possible. Yet these two statues were talking and telling them things that sounded like they could be the truth. Unsure what else they could do, they agreed to wait and see what happened when the shipment arrived with hopefully the same painting they were talking about. Until then, Diane wouldn't know a thing. They would pretend as if tonight had never happened.

Henry did manage to look up Diane's address and it turned out she lived in the same apartment complex he did. Alex gave Henry a ride back to the complex with a still sleeping Diane in the backseat.

"We just need to tell her it was all a dream, just long enough to see what's in that shipment. If those two are right...it'll be weird if we end up going back in time." Alex said, trying to keep his eyes on the road.

"Yeah, may wanna do so reading about that time too. Things were quite different back then. Wouldn't be a bad idea to brush up on some information." Henry sighs looking out the window.

Henry and Alex got Diane to her apartment and into her bed but just left her work clothes on her. That way maybe she would go with the whole it was a dream thing? They didn't know if it would work or not but they hoped it would.

The next day Diane woke up and that was her first thought. It was a dream, an over-stressed induced dream. She got up and did her normal routine. Getting in the shower, getting dressed and taking her coffee with her on her bus commute to work.

She passed Henry who was on his way to morning meeting with Alex following close behind him, wearing sunglasses to cover up his hangover no doubt. Diane had finished most of her morning work the night before after doing research. That must have been what influenced her dream.

Still something drew her to the throne room scene. Going there, she looked around the room just to make sure everything was in order. From what she could tell everything was. Granted she was in black dress pants, a white top and black blazer with her hair pulled up in a high ponytail and gold earrings due to a presentation she had to give near the end of the day so she did not fit in with the Trojan scene at all.

"I can't believe I dreamed that, it seemed so real." Diane sighed as she walked right up to the throne, looking right into Hector's what she assumed were glass eyes. "I'm so lonely I imagine wax statues of long dead, fable creatures coming to life to keep me company. That is just sad."

Shaking her head she sighed and closed her eyes. Looking down at the detail on his robes, she was clearly distracted as Hector risked looking at Achilles who just shook his head. He knew exactly what Hector was thinking and that it was not a good idea.

"Diane, some package arrived in shipment and it has an artifact waiting for you to examine." a young intern called out to her while popping the chewing gum in her mouth.

Diane stood up tall and turned around to the intern.

"What kind of document? Everything for the month is already coded and cataloged." she answered the intern.

"I don't know, some kind of painting or something. I didn't get the details, just come look at it, gosh." the intern sighed as though she were frustrated with Diane as she walked off.

"It's so hard to find good help these days." Diane sighed as she stuck her hands in her pockets and walked forward, her high heels clicking on the floor.

Diane had just turned the corner when Hector looked right over at Achilles.

"End of the week huh? If that's what I think it is then we need to get to it." Hector tells the warrior.

"You are the main attraction in this scene. Let me handle this." Achilles grins as he moves to walk off.

"Don't hurt anyone." Hector sighs knowing Achilles is telling the truth.

Achilles rolls his eye at the comment and takes off. Following the signs he had read a million times before and following where he knew Alex had a small office. He finally came to the door and as he opened it he saw Alex was fast asleep on the small couch. Searching through the office he opened a small cupboard and there was a spare suit. Smiling Achilles stripped his old clothes and put on a nice gray suit. He left the tie off though because he had no idea how to do it.

With his new wardrobe, he carefully locked the door from the inside as he left making sure no one would go to find the real Alex. He didn't know how long the guy would sleep but he would use his time wisely.

Barely making it to the main hall, a woman comes up and puts her arm around him calling him many pet names in a baby language he could barely understand. He tried his best to make out what she was saying but he couldn't.

"Sorry I have to go find Diane." Achilles tries to mimic Alex's tone.

"Another girl?! Alex, we talked about that! I am the only one for you!" this random woman called out at the top of her lungs catching the attention from everyone.

"Lady, you need to calm down, you are making a spectacle of yourself." Achilles mumbled.

He looked up and saw Diane was following the intern just across the way. Deciding he was not dealing with the random woman, he went right to following Diane but the girl decided to follow him. She kept yelling at Achilles and he was truly growing frustrated at her accusations of him, even though he knew he wasn't Alex, he wondered how anyone could stand this woman.

Achilles stopped right outside the archives office where Diane was standing and examining a portrait and the minute she saw it she gasped. Yep, that was the portrait they were looking for. It was one of Diana who looked just like Diane.

"Alex, I could be carrying your child, you know. But, if I can't have you then I'll make sure no one can." the woman said as she pulled something out of her purse and lifted it high but as she went to lower it another, dark sleeved hand stopped her.

"Alex I have told you time after time, no crazy one night stands at work." Diane said but with a more commanding tone, more of a Diana tone, she now turned her attention to the woman. "Leave before I make sure you can never come back."

"He's a manwhore, just so you know." the woman said before huffing off.

"I am not, Alex very well maybe but I am not, at least I don't think I am." Achilles says, looking at Diane.

"Achilles, you were a total manwhore you just didn't have a word for it." Diana smiled. "It's me, the minute I saw my portrait it's like everything came flooding back. You look very artificial though."

"I'm made of wax, my body is here but my soul was trapped in wax as was Hector's. He's in the throne room scene. Once the spell is read our souls will combine with our bodies and just I guess become the other two? I don't really know how my mother's magic works." Achilles said, trying to remember what his mother said.

Diana grabbed the portrait and took off back to the throne room. She paused as she looked around at the scene. It was just like she remembered it. Crossing over the rope, Hector stood up from the throne.

"Diana? You have the portrait." Hector said, looking at it in her hand.

"Yes, it's me. I remember being Diane but I know I am Diana because the minute I saw my portrait all my memories came flooding back." she replied to Hector who came and looked her over.

"Uh...Diane?" Henry called out from behind her.

Diana quickly turned around and saw what looked like a twin of Hector walking up to her. This must be Hector's body in this time but without his whole soul inside. That must have meant that Alex was Achilles. She hadn't seen Alex but something told her he would turn up.

"Sorry, it's Diana." She replied as she showed him the portrait. "Turns out it wasn't a dream and I think you know that."

"Oh my god, you were the lost queen. Diana I don't know what to say." Henry says as he walks up to her. "You married both of them and then just disappeared."

"I was from 2015, I thought I was going back and it would all be a dream. I guess it's never that simple. Still I know them and I know I don't belong in the future anymore." Diana explains.

"We still have to read my mother's spell on the back." Achilles pointed out.

Diana held up the portrait and there on the back was a spell. Henry held it up in the light and began to read from it. It suddenly got really dark and the wind inside the building began to speed up. Once he completed the spell the light came back on and the wax figures of Hector and Achilles were once again just figures frozen. Diana turned to Henry who was looking his hand up and down as if he were adjusting.

"Hector?" Diana asked and he turned to look at her and smiled.

"It's me." he grinned.

Diana rushed right up to Hector and enveloped him in a long embrace. Barely letting go, he put his hand on her face and she leaned into his touch.

"I thought I would never see you again, to be able to hold you in my arms is truly a miracle from the gods." Hector told Diana as he leaned in and kissed her.

"Ugh, you two are an item now. Gross. You still need to check the clothes and prepare the portrait you know." the intern said as she looked back to her phone.

Diana blinked confused as did Hector. The spell was supposed to take them back to Troy. Why were they still in the future? Achilles came forward scratching his head as the intern rolled her eyes and walked past him.

"Ok, back in the bodies but...why are we still here?" Achilles wondered.

"I think that's a good question, who do we ask though?" Hector asked out loud.
