Chapter 1
Walking through the restored ruins of what was once the palace of Troy, or at least that is what all the historical documents said. This place was, in parts, like truly walking through time. Diane could only imagine what it looked like then, how beautiful the polished walkways would have looked. That would truly be something she could never experience, after all, there was no such thing as time travel. Only fools would believe that.
"I told them the exhibit would not be ready for another month Alex! You can't just going trying to show off to whatever date you have with artifacts, it's getting to the point where you are risking my job too." A male voice sighed, exasperated as Diane hid behind a pillar.
Though she had worked there close to two months, she had never met any of the other staff then Mel, her assistant and somewhat friend. The man who had hired her, only had read her resume and interviewed her over the phone once. How she got the job without ever having a face to face interview she had no idea, yet here she was.
"Oh lighten up Henry, you act like the whole world could come crashing down at any minute. Learn to live a little man! When's the last time you were laid?" Another male, but with a lighter toned voice spoke up.
"This is my life, Alex, you don't understand how important this place is to me." the first man retorted.
"All over some dreams you keep having about some time there is no way you could have been in. Henry, you can't live in a dream! The whole world is out there and waiting, maybe you need to go out to find it." the second man stated as he stopped right before Diane's hiding spot.
Henry saw the woman looking confused and flustered by their presence. Groaning, he ran his hand through his hair and tried to tell Alex to turn around with just his eye motions.
"Are you getting dizzy or something?" Alex asked Henry.
"Behind you, we aren't alone."
Alex turned around and saw Diane, surprisingly, a woman he had not met before. Scratching the back of his head, somewhat embarrassed, Alex chuckled nervously as he looked at the woman before them.
"Well hello there, dare I ask how much you heard?" Alex asked as he stuffed his hands into his back pockets.
"Since you two walked in. I was only passing through on my way to my office. Sorry, if you'll just excuse me." Diane said in an attempt to walk around them but Alex blocked her.
"Office? I don't recall ever seeing you here before. Who are you?" Alex asked the woman before him.
"I am Diane Jones, I am in charge of historical documents. I've only been here three months, but I haven't met you either." Diane says as she manages to get around him.
"I pride myself on knowing all of the staff here, it's a shameI I missed you." Alex flirts shamelessly on Diane who just happens to back into Henry.
"Alex, give it a rest. You can't keep up with the women in your black book as it is, don't add more to it." Henry sighs as he looks down at Diane. "Nice to finally put your face to your name though."
Diane could tell Alex was someone she needed to keep away from. He would only end up being trouble in the long run. Henry then led Diane away from Alex who just happened to get a phone call, no doubt from one of the women in his black book.
"Sorry about him, however he has more connections to artifacts than even I do, and I went to school for my connections. Either way, he is working with me to get a big exhibit to come here but apparently the history behind the artifacts are a little...well mysterious. Can't seem to get a straight story out of the owner or Alex." Henry sighs.
"Maybe we can do the research ourselves?" Diane suggested, not sure Henry would even listen to her.
Henry paused and looked to Diane as if she had answered the riddle from the sphinx. Why had he not thought of that before? He had to admit, here recently he had to admit he was in a bit of a fog. Still looking at here, maybe her services could be helpful.
"Ever heard of Hector of Troy and Achilles?" Henry questioned Diane who looked at him unamused.
"From the Iliad? Yes, I remember the fable. What about it?" Diane shrugged.
"There are scholars out there that believe the fable to be more like a fanfiction but the people and events actually happened in some way." Henry began to tell her as he walked with her to another room.
Stopping right behind a roped off room. There was a very well preserved throne room and it had three empty manakins that were off to the side where on the throne was a dummy of what she had assumed to be Hector, off to the side in what looked to be very simple clothes was another dummy, no doubt meant to be Achilles.
"Some even speculate that there was in fact a Queen from a completely different world." Henry said and Diane could see the excitement in his eyes.
"Another Queen? We all know his first wife died a few years after the birth of his daughter Livitica. There was no mention of another queen in my studies." Diane pointed out.
"Hint's why it's speculation. There maybe truth in that though, what if there was another queen? Someone that history erased? After all Hector himself disappeared as did Achilles." Hector mentions as he looks right at Diane and for a moment she looks completely different.
She looked like she was wearing a white trojan dress, and a bronze crown upon her head. There was no way that what he was seeing her in right now was what she was actually wearing. It had to be his research invading on his current reality.
"Henry?" Diane asked as she gently placed her hand on his forearm.
Just her touch seemed to wake his senses. Blinking repeatedly, Diane was back in her normal clothes and looked just like she had a few moments earlier.
"Sorry, I think I need to catch a nap or something. Those artifacts should be here sometime soon though. Alex said there was a painting too. So that'll fall under your department. Let me know when they get here. I think I need to lay down in my office." Henry said as he held the bridge of his nose.
"Of course, just let me know if you need anything else." Diane said as she watched Henry walk away from her.
'Diana' a voice whispered from behind her.
Diane turned her head and looked around from left to right only to find no one there. She knew she heard someone call out, someone had said something. Maybe it was Alex trying to scare her? Looking back into the throne room, she tried to see if maybe he was hiding behind a figure or something. Gently lifting her leg over the rope, she barely stepped into the throne room scene and didn't see anyone out of place.
"Alex, I don't think trying to scare people is the nicest way to help me form my opinion of you." Diane called out as she looked behind the wax figures.
Still, there was no movement. No more whispers, just complete silence. Shaking her head, she turned back around to make an exit from the scene when she saw one of the wax figures had moved to stand before the exit. It was the figure of Achilles and it was just staring her down.
"Alex...is that you?" Diane stuttered.
Just then Alex popped out from behind the figure. Diane wanted to scream at the top of her lungs but she didn't, instead she was composed and very angry.
"Alex! Those cost a lot of money! Put Achilles back before you end up damaging him beyond repair!" Diane huffed as she walked right out of the scene.
"What's wrong with her? That woman has no idea what the sense of fun is." Alex rolled his eyes as he carefully put the wax figure of Achilles in his previous spot. "You wouldn't have let some woman talk to you like that, would you? A mighty warrior who took exactly what he wanted no matter what others said."
Alex chuckled as he put Achilles hair that had fallen into his face, back in place and turned around to make his leave. He didn't think anything of the facial expression that had changed from Achilles looking right at Hector to now looking right at him, clearly unhappy with the words he had just used.
Diane had stayed late and was doing the research just to see if there were any theories about this unknown queen that could possibly be well possible. She was typing away at her computer looking through article after article. Many of these theories referred to this queen as Diana but instead of her coming from another world she came from another time. Diane didn't believe in time travel at all, it was truly impossible.
"A time traveling woman who happens to have two kings fall in love with her? Right, then what happened to her? She just disappears? Sounds like a bad ending to me, especially for her." Diane sighed as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes from under her glasses.
An alert on her computer alerted her to a presence in the museum. Looking at the time and seeing it was almost midnight, she knew no one would be out and about this late. Even the cleaning staff would be done with the area where the alarm was going off. Knowing there were priceless artifacts in that area, she knew she had to go investigate.
With her phone now being used as a flashlight in hand, she walked down the halls as she approached the throne room. She had a feeling Alex was back and knew that since she was still there, he would try and play another prank on her. So she wasn't truly scared, since she was using logic over fear.
Turning to the throne room she was met with a sight she did not expect. It looked like every wax figure had been replaced with real people. They were all moving around the room and talking to one another as if it were just another normal day.
"What the heck..." Diane mumbled as she looked at the room in complete shock.
