Chapter 13: Unlikely Friendship
With a heavy stir from slumber, everything was as cold as ice and senses hindered to a numb buzz. It was through a cloudy gaze your eyes could distinguish the colors red and white to your right; the color yellow to your left. Nobody you knew had hair as white as snow as well as hair as red as blood except for one other person. And then bleached hair that was frazzled like an explosion to your left.
"Sh-Shoto? B-B-Bakugou?" You stuttered with your jaw shaking involuntarily leaving a bone clattering noise to fill the atmosphere. Even your vocal cords felt like they're encased in a block of ice, just speaking had you wishing no air trespassed your struggling lungs. "Wh-why is it so c-c-c-c-cold?" You began to hug yourself for warmth and realized you're sitting in idle water.
"My dad called me up a few hours ago," Shoto sat forward on a stool that sat before the metal bathtub of which you sat within. "He gave you a heatstroke and now you're in an ice bath..." Shoto removed his hand from the outside of the tub, there was an icy imprint left behind. He's assuming your water doesn't need to be cooled for any longer now that you're shivering and all.
"C-can I get out?" Your legs refused to cooperate.
"You look fine now so... Sure," Shoto shrugs and clenched his hand to break off some ice from his palms.
Thirty seconds later and Shoto hadn't made any attempt to move. "You just gonna sit there Half n' Half Bastard?" Bakugou sent a half lidded glare towards the two tone boy.
"You're her boyfriend," Shoto suggests blankly.
"So?" Bakugou rolled up his sleeves.
"I didn't have to invite you here and I've been using my right side for the last few hours. I'll risk freezing (Y/n) if you can't tell," Shoto held out his right arm. Even through the sleeves of his uniform the limb was freezing over in patches and shook faintly. This was one of the downsides to Todoroki's quirk; the overuse of any one side of his quirk, be it ice or fire, leaves Shoto at risk of many complications such as hypothermia, heat exhaustion or even sickness.
"Could've just told me that earlier jackass..." Bakugou hissed reaching down into the steel tub. His hand found the backs of your knees, the other pressed to your backside as he pulled you out from the icy trap to lie you upon blanket of towels. He also wrapped another towel of pristine white around your backside. You gave him a deserving kiss of appreciation to the cheek.
Shoto sat down on the floor beside you both and ignites his left side aflame and acted as a heater for everyone. "Of all people, why did you choose to intern with my dad?" You've seen not many but a fair share of expressions from Shoto, but you've never seen one of pure disappointment...
As much as you wanted to savor the newfound warmth, you found yourself leaning away. "I-I didn't r-really have a choice..." You sighed.
"Grow a fucking pair and tell Aizawa no for a change..." Bakugou disapproved in your uncanny obedience towards your father. While respect and loyalty is key to a healthy relationship with parents, yours is too reliant on loyalty...
"This wasn't his choice either!" You puffed out your cheeks. Bakugou began to say something else but you weren't going to let him even sound out his first letter. "B-Because I was a villain, no heroes would take me in as an intern. Everybody except En-Endeavor that is..." If you could choose someone else, you would in a heartbeat.
"It's a big load of BS either way you look at it," the blonde chuckled resting a hand on his half folded lap.
"I mean you're not wrong," you agreed.
"You're ditching internships tomorrow and staying with me in class," Bakugou wrapped an arm around your backside. His warmth felt like heaven, and you snuggled more into his body.
"Don't have to tell me twice," you admit with ease. "Wait..." You pulled the collar to your lavender shirt by your thumb and forefinger. "These aren't my clothes..."
"Your clothes were ash by the time Endeavor was done throwing fire at you," Shoto fumbled a hand behind himself and came back with a black plastic bag. Bakugou picked it up and within was patches of blue and white fabric just like the UA uniforms of which you wore earlier.
"Again... These aren't my clothes and who dressed me?" You glared at Bakugou. "I know you've seen me half naked before but you better have not dressed me."
"I didn't..." Bakugou furrowed his brow.
"My older sister dressed you," Shoto finally spoke up.
"Oh..." You could finally be at peace. "Tell her my thanks."
"Whatever... Just grab your things so we can get back to the dorms. I hate my dad enough as it is..." Oh Shoto...
"You up to carrying me?" You batted your eyes at your boyfriend.
Bakugou tried to look taunting towards you. He couldn't pull through as his fierce bodily language melted away with a sigh, "I guess..."
"One last thing," you held out your hand and Bakugou gave you a lift up to your frozen feet. They couldn'teven register that they were standing. "Did Shoto actually invite you here or did you make him?" Cause Shoto inviting Bakugou anywhere doesn't sound like him in the slightest. Maybe Midoriya or Iida, but definitely not Bakugou.
"He told me he had to help you... So I invited myself along," Bakugou actually sounds guilty for a change.
"And this is why I love you."
Bakugou carried you to the dorms where you both camped out on a couch for hours for warmth. The very next morning, everyone had put on their hero uniforms and met out in the new training facility on school campus. Much to your knowledge, there the class trained on developing their Ultimate Moves, sort of like trump card attacks that could change the tide of the battle. Nobody noticed you were there for a good hour. Until Aizawa took notice, you were sitting on the ground of the facility with a laptop and sipping on water all chilled out and relaxed.
Aizawa stood before you and cleared his throat when your attention wasn't given. "Shouldn't you be with Endeavor?" He suggested
"I should be... But I'm not gonna," you wore a refreshed smile of all things. Endeavor was the last person you'd want to be with right about now.
"(Y/n)."
"Endeavor nearly burned me alive and I'd rather do some training before going back to him," you held up your computer as it was on a website explaining the melting point of each element on the periodic table as well as artificial materials. "I've learned the hard way that my metal quirk has a really low melting point if orange flames are quite literally causing me to melt. So I've figured out that my melting point is that of nickle, uranium, steel or iron which they all normally melt at around 2,100 degrees-"
"Way to geek me out," Aizawa had to pause you. He could only handle so much. "I do however respect your decision to skip out on your internship to train but how exactly do you plan to increase your melting point?" Get used to hotter temperatures by cooking yourself? Set yourself on fire? How exactly would you increase a melting point?
"Well for starters," apparently Aizawa neglected to notice the mountain of pill bottles off to your left as you held one out for him. The bottle had iron printed on the lable. "I took a bunch of mineral supplements. People say to take iron to toughen up your skin and prevent bruises. Maybe toughening my body will help?"
"Too many minerals can hurt you (Y/n)," Aizawa warned and knelt down to read the other supplements you had on hand. Magnesium, zinc, calcium, sulfur, phosphorus and much more. "Do you not want to be able to crap for weeks?" At this rate you'll be constipated for weeks.
"Love how shit is your first reaction to me potentially overdosing," you shrugged. You couldn't really blame him for thinking of such.
"Make sure you drink lots of water..." Aizawa suggested. The damage is already done sadly.
"I'm already ahead of you," you nod wiggling your sports bottle. "In about a half hour when I'm beginning to digest the pills I'll see if the melting point of my quirk has increased by fighting... Well... I'm not very sure who. Its between Bakugou and Shoto for sure," you closed up the laptop and sat idle to watch the two boys of interest. Bakugou was shooting off laser like beams of orange light from one hand into a mountain of cement created by cementoss. Little by little the cement gave away, almost as if the laser was busting through it like a drill with ease. Going back to the first day of school when Bakugou could only blow things up, he could now transform his quirk into something completely new almost unrelated. If the two of you fought right here right now he'd win no questions asked...
With that potential feat on the mind, you shifted your attention to Shoto who was working to use both sides of his quirk simultaneously. It's not really coming along all that well however. Shoto had little candle-like flames on his fingertips and icy claws on the other hand. Nothing impressive, but overall pretty humiliating. To use his ice side, his entire body must cool itself; To use his fire side, his body increases in temperature. If his body is rapidly trying to cool and heat itself it'll lead to easy exhaustion maybe even injury. At least he's trying something new and daring.
"Bakugou or Shoto..." You sighed and opened up your laptop once again to Google just how hot a grenade explosion can get compared to orange and yellow flame. Any explosion can vary between 1,000°F-3,000°F while yellow flame starts at 2,100°F and can reach a max of 2,500°F.
I know my body and metal melts at 2,100 degrees at the very least so should I risk training with Bakugou? I mean his temp can be very low, yet he could also really hurt me since his explosions can get hotter than Shoto's flames. I still remember back in the mountains how Bakugou blew my arm clean off. That means he's on the hotter end of the scale...
"Oh screw it I'll take my chances..." You stood up after a half an hour of weighing options and waved for Bakugou from his high placement on the cement mountain.
He quickly destroyed his Ectoplasm clone. Ectoplasm is a teacher here at UA with a quirk that can allow him to make perfect clones of himself. He was helping out by giving everyone a clone to train upon. Bakugou had hopped down the cemented mountain to meet up with the light to his day. "What do you need? I'm busy training for the exam and shit," okay, you clearly put him into a pretty sour mood.
"Use me as target practice," you offered with some reluctance on your end. "I'd like to train with you before facing Endeavor again. I really need to work on my resistance to heat-"
Bakugou mutes you with his gloved hand pressed to your lips. "Quit rambling and let's go."
You took his hand away since the taste of sulfur was staining your tastebuds. "if you weren't wearing gloves I'd so bite you."
"That's my thing bitch," Bakugou smirked.
"And we all know I'm not afraid to kill you," you threw that point out there.
"That is something I know for a fact you aren't joking about."
"Is that their new way of flirting?" Kaminari rested an arm upon Kirishima's shoulder.
"I mean if they're happy they're happy," Kirishima shrugged using his sleeve to wipe the sweat from his forehead. If death threats are a healthy way for the two of you to keep things intimate and interesting then he won't step in. Your relationship is truly unique indeed.
"They're entertaining as hell though," Sero commented back as he watched you struggle to steal Bakugou's gloves.
"And Aizawa doesn't care if we stop training to watch them fight," Uraraka whispered as she snaked into the group.
"Watch Kacchan and (Y/n) beat each other up... Well, it's better than me being their punching bag," Midoriya felt a faint sense of relief.
"Squall had me running for my money back in the mountains! I'm rooting for (Y/n)!!!" Uraraka cheered.
"It's just friendly training, no fighting," Iida reminded everyone.
"Oh really," Kaminari pointed at the barrage of explosions going off. "What do you call that?"
"Training," Iida held up his index finger and faced the training grounds only to falter.
You had your hearing aids turned off and ran all around the place, trapping Bakugou into a box of high rise silver walls. "QUIT RUNNING AWAY AND FACE ME!!!" He growled releasing one explosion after the other upon the walls and all the explosions did were leave baseball sized indentations.
"I'm done here," Iida sulked away.
"Your explosions aren't melting anything," you awed pressing a hand to a wall to absorb the metal back within your body. The other hand turned the dial on your aids. "Didn't take much work to figure out the secret. But I am gonna go broke buying mineral supplements..." As you absorbed the walls, Bakugou took his opening to attack with an explosion to your face. Luckily you foretold this reaction and turned your face from skin and bones to metal or else you'd probably be injured.
"Bring it on (Y/n)! Clearly you can hold up your end of a fight now so bring it!" Bakugou snatched you by the collar of your uniform and taunted you with his forehead pressed to yours.
"Save it for after the Exam..." Aizawa drawled out. "Long term internships and class evaluation will take place after the exam," now this announcement had everyone's ears open and attention caught. "The evaluation will consist of a class battle royal which will determine who will hold the most potential in taking on field work such as villains and crime... Save the fighting for then," the class had mixed feelings on the battle royal. While most could hold their end in a fight, brawling with their own classmates didn't set in too well. Especially when some of them aren't prone to granting mercy.
Kirishima had to pull Bakugou away from you even though you had the situation under control. The second someone one-ups Bakugou in some way theres no way to quell the flames. "I'm not done with you (Y/n)!!!" Bakugou struggled in Kirishima's grasp.
"Then come back here and give me a piece of ya," you giggled. "Just a minute of training won't help. Why don't you join in too Shoto?" The boy perked up to the mention of his name.
"Fuck no!" Bakugou used an explosion to escape from Kirishima's hold and points in disgust to the boy with dual tone hair. "I am not fighting with Half N' Half Bastard!"
"Bakugou, swallow your pride and get along with Shoto for a change," you huffed.
"You're really testing my kindness..." Bakugou turned to Shoto. "If I can't... Beat her as soon as you can."
"Okay..." Shoto accepted the reality that he was dragged into the mess.
Wha-PSHHH! Kaminari chuckled.
"Clearly he isn't the one who wears the pants in the relationship anymore," Sero snickered.
"I'm gonna MURDER YOU ALL!!!" Bakugou snapped. Everyone laughed in his face. Bakugou however was thankful that Shoto didn't partake in the subject of his waning masculinity. Then again, Shoto couldn't care less.
"Thanks you two for helping me! Now please work together. I'm afraid halfway through you both will be at each other's throats."
"Nah," Bakugou rolled his shoulder. "I gave him permission to beat your ass."
You let that comment sink in. "Not sure if I should be happy that you two are finally getting along or afraid that I'm gonna get my ass beat..."
"As long as you aren't dead that's good enough for me," Bakugou cracked his knuckles then nudges Shoto in the arm. "Treat us to a good fight and I'll quit calling ya Half n' Half Bastard."
"We all know you won't," Shoto assumed.
"Half n' Half Bastard is a mouthful," Bakugou explained.
"You're just tired of your girlfriend telling you to quit using that name," Shoto just pushed the wrong button.
"Whipped!!!" Kaminari and Sero cackled.
Bakugou fumed in anger with his head hung low. "You respect your girl... Nothing to be ashamed of. I love my mom and I'm proud of it," Shoto pulled off the faintest smile.
"Loving your girlfriend is different from being a momma's boy," Bakugou lifted his head.
"Yeah but we all know what Kirishima would say about this."
"'Love is manly' and crap..." Bakugou wretched.
"Loving your girl IS manly Baku-Bro!!!" Kirishima couldn't contain his excitement.
"Look what you started," the blonde shoved Shoto. "Still like you better than Purple Bastard..."
Sorry for the nonsense-ish chapter. Haven't had that much time to write and honestly I couldn't really tie together the next part of the plot very well in this particular chapter since it dives right into the battle royal. So, yeah, next chapter is an Endeavor rematch and the class battle royal.
I think we're also on our last three chapters...
