Fifth Memory: Christmas

It was Christmas morning and Emma was up first, filled with energy. Jack was awoken by a knock at the door. He groggily got out of bed and answered the door. Pitch was there with a giant smile and three presents in his hand.

"It's early in the morning." Jack complained.

"But its Christmas!" Pitch said.

"But... Its early in the morning." Jack said once again.

"That's okay, I'm up too." They both looked up to see Jack's mom smiling down at them from the ledge of the house. Jack grunted and turned into the house. Pitch invited himself in as Jack's mom crawled down the ladder and tried to calm the eight years old child. They all surrounded the tree that was by the fire. It was decorated beautifully and the fire created light, making it become bright. Emma reached for the first one, tearing the leaves wrapping paper off of them. The first one was a new set of charcoal pencils.

"Yes! Mommy now I can start arting!" She exclaimed.

Jack chuckled and looked at Pitch through his eyelashes. Pitch caught his glance and smirked. He grabbed his, holding off the grubby little girl from grabbing more. "Here, I got you guys some stuff too. Merry Christmas and Happy birthday Jack." He said.

Jack chuckled and grabbed the present from his hands. It was heavy so Jacks heart raced. He placed it on his lap and went to open it. He opened the box lid and looked inside it to see a pair of brown skates. Jack gasped and smiled up at him.

"Mommy! Mommy! I got skates!" Emma shouted.

"Ha-ha, so did I, what about you Jack?" She asked.

"I got skates as well! Oh mom! After we are done can we go skating?!" Jack asked.

Their mom rolled her eyes and nodded. "Oh alright. But after breakfast you crazy kids." She said. They opened up the rest of the presents. Jack got a new brown cloak and sketchbook made of really weird and rough paper. Emma got a whole new wardrobe and soem new skates. It was cute. They all chilled around the fire as their mom made some soup for the morning.

"Tis is nice." North explained, smiling at the happy family. He glanced back and saw that Jack had stepped back a good five feet from them.

"I think I like human Jack better. He's less of an asshat." Bunny teased.

"Hey! I'm not that much of an asshat right now!" Jack complained.

Bunny rolled his eyes. "Whatever. You so are, you bloody show pony!" He argued.

Jack was about to argue, but Tooth shushed them. "Shut up, its starting up again."

Jack knew what was coming and he couldn't watch it. While everyone was looking at the screen, Jack sat down and brought his knees to his chest, covering his ears up.

"So what are you guys hoping for next year?" Mrs. Overland asked, taking a spoonful of soup into her mouth.

"Well I hope to be moving on the higher education." Jack said.

"I'm hoping to follow your son." Kozmotis said.

"That's going to be fun. Your dad would have been so proud of you." She said, smiling.

Jack chuckled and nodded. "He would've. Thanks mom." He said.

"Well here's what I'm hoping for." Mrs. Overland said, lifting her cup. "I am hoping we all start new. That you two finally get married and that you two become what you want. I am hoping that Emma will be top of her class instead of average. That's my main hope guys, can we do it?" She asked.

Jack and Kozmotis lifted their cups as well as Emma and they all cheered. "Cheers to that ma." He said.

They drank it and got up from the table and went to wash their bowl and leave it in the pot of water. Emma rushed up the ladder, running to get ready. Jack chuckled, going to put his brown vest on and his cloak. He grabbed the skates and went to remove his drapes when Kozmotis came in.

"Hey, ready to learn how to skate?" He asked.

Jack chuckled. "Of course I am!" He squeaked.

Kozmotis rolled his eyes and kissed Jack gently and passionately. They then entered out of the room and helped their mom throw away all the garbage. Jack grabbed his skates after he was done helping and threw them over his shoulder. Pitch followed and Emma just held hers. She jumped excitedly, grabbing Jacks hand and rushing him out the door. Jack laughed at her pushiness.

"Be careful guys." Jacks mother said.

"Don't worry, we will." Jack said with a smile. They all went over to the lake and looked at its glorious shimmer of ice. Emma was already shoving her skates on as well as Jack. Kozmotis was close behind. Once they were on, Kozmotis glided on the smooth ice. Jack rolled his eyes and helped Emma onto the ice, teaching her his crappy ways.

"Come on pussy cat." Kozmotis taunted.

"Oh shut up!" Jack glared.

"Jack! Let go of me. I can do it on my own." Emma complained.

Jack chuckled and let her hands go and glided sloppily over go Kozmotis. Jack was about to fall until Kozmotis caught him.

"You clumsy idiot." Pitch smiled, leaning down and kissing him. That's when Jack heard Emma squeal and a crack.

Jack gasped and slid over to her to see the problem. He gasped but tried to remain calm. He slowly bent down and untied the skates.

"Jack, I'm scared." Emma says as the ice cracks were being heard.

"Emma just keep calm." Kozmotis says, a few feet away from the scene, on more stable ice then them.

"But I'm scared!"

"I know, I know... But you're gonna be alright. You're not gonna fall in. We're gonna have a little fun instead." Jack tried to reassure her, taking off the final skate, leaving him barefoot on the ice.

"No we're not!" Emma screamed.

"Would I trick you?" Jack asked.

"Yes, you always play tricks."

"Oh she's got you there, Jack." Kozmotis said. But no matter how calmed he was, he couldn't help but feel a pang in his stomach.

"Shut up Pitch. Look, not this time. Okay? J promise. You're gonna be... You're gonna be fine." Jack said, looking around for something until his eyes land on a hooked shaped wood. He smiled.

"You have to believe in me," he said.

Emma smiles no matter how fearful she felt at that moment. "You wanna play a game? We're gonna play hopscotch like we used to." Be said.

Emma nodded, swallowing through her fear.

"I can't watch this." Tooth said, but Bunny turned her face back to the screen, all of them holding their breaths. Not realizing Jack was crying himself.

"It's as easy as one... Woah!" Jack said messing with her as if he almost lost his balance. Pitch gulped, he chuckled at Jack's dorkiness, but this situation made him keep on his toes.

"Two..." He jumped once more towards the staff. "Three!" And with that, he was out of the harmful thin ice.

"Now its your turn." Jack explained.

"Are you sure?" Kozmotis asked, feeling a little freaked out.

She took a step, but freaked. "One" she wobbled, but caught her balance.

"That's it, that's it. Two..." He said. He lifted the wood and reached forward with it, almost in reach. She took another wobbly step.

"Three!" Jack hooked her with the staff, throwing her to safety and taking her place. Kozmotis ran to her need and helped Emma up. She glanced up and smiled. Pitch also smiled and cheered.

"That's my love!" He shouted.

Jack smiled and stood up too see them cheering. That's when the cracks below Jack, could be heard and Jack gasped. "Woah!"

"JACK!" both of them shouted, reaching out to grab them. The last thing Jack saw was Kozmotis grabbing Emma and both of the falling backwards.

Jack was emerged in the water, looking up at the hole he fell through. He saw Emma and Kozmotis's steps of panic a few feet from the hole, but all he could do was smile. Knowing he saved his sister as he sunk lower and lower into the water.

The flashback ended. Leaving all of them speechless. They didn't know what to say next. Their minds still spinning.
